Champion Concept: Shadan, Scion of the Wild

My friend and I have been designing game material for quite awhile (8 years). We have a fairly successful play-by-post forum game on another site. While we step away from that for awhile, we decided to take a stab at designing champions for League of Legends. Our goal is to design one champion each month.

I hope you enjoy our first (finished) collaborative champion design.

Notes:

Neither I or my friend can draw well enough to convey the design, but Shadan is a rugged looking bow wielder that makes his home on the Rift's Jungle.

Shadan, Scion of the Wild

L1 - 580 HP / 320 Mana – 55 AD – 450 auto range

Passive - Master of the Hunt

Hunter: When Shadan kills a Murkwolf camp, he spawns a wolf companion with [INSERT STATS HERE] that apply Shadan's on-hit effects when attacking and Shadan's Smite Bonus for the Murkwolf camp becomes "Shadan gains a stack of Master of the Hunt." If Shadan kills a Murkwolf camp when he has his maximum number of wolves out, he gains a stack of “Wolf Companion”. If Shadan kills a Murkwolf camp when he has his maximum number of wolves out (2), he gains a stack of “Wolf Companion”. Shadan can have a maximum of 10 stacks of “Wolf Companion”. Shadan consumes a stack of “Wolf Companion” to summon an additional wolf whenever an active wolf dies with a 30 second cooldown. Stacks of "Wolf Companion" persist through death.

Upon issuing an attack command on an enemy champion or monster, all wolves within 500 units of Shadan will attack that target.

Hunted: Shadan's abilities and autoattacks debuff enemy champions they hit, creating a trail of blood that follows them. The trail of blood can be seen through the fog of war (does not provide vision), and gets more vividly red based on how much health the enemy is missing. Hunted persists for 30/45/60 seconds, scaling with points in GoftT!

Q – Feral Quiver – 11/9/7/5/3 second cooldown – 50/55/60/65/70 mana – 700 unit range skillshot – 1s cast

Shadan fires an arrow that pierces through monsters, dealing [70/115/160/205/250 (50% Bonus AD)] plus an additional [10/20/30/40/50 (20% Total AD)] for each monster it passed through. If an enemy champion is hit by Feral, all wolves and monsters hit with the arrow (within 700 range) will prioritize attacks on targets hit with Feral Quiver.

**W – Lay in Wait – 20/18/16/14/12 second cooldown **

On Wolf Cast: Shadan causes a wolf to move to a location and enter stealth (Shadan breaks Stealth by using) and is slowed by [100/90/75/60/50%]. Whenever an enemy champion comes within 500 units of a stealthed wolf, the wolf howls (audible to enemy players) and Shadan can issue an attack command to the unit to cause it to pounce on an enemy champion, dealing [80/90/100/110/120%] of Shadan's AD and stunning them for [0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5] seconds. Wolves can only Lay in Wait in Brush. Wolves last for 5 minutes before returning to Shadan (as a stack of Master of the Hunt)

On Self Cast: Shadan enters stealth, and is slowed by [100/90/75/60/50%]. Shadan's next attack from stealth on an enemy stuns the target for [1/1/1.25/1.25/1.5] seconds. Lay in Wait persists for 2/3/4/5/6 seconds unless Shadan is in a brush, then it will not start consuming time until he leaves it.

E – Command: Kill – 30/30/30/30/30 second cooldown – 50 Mana

Marks an area within 3000 units, debuffing all units within a small radius for thirty seconds and applying Master of the Hunt to them. Debuffed champions alert all wolves within 500 units of them, causing them to move follow Master of the Hunt towards them and attack them. No more than two wolves will attack a target with Command: Kill at once (unless otherwise marked by Feral Quiver) Monsters that are debuffed deal 50% reduced damage to and take [40/60/80/100/120%] additional damage from Shadan's wolves. Wolves gain [10/20/30/40/50%] attack speed for three seconds against targets debuffed by Command: Kill.

R – Go for the Throat! – 140/120/100 second cooldown - 100 mana

On Wolf Cast: Shadan and all other currently active wolves teleport to a wolf that is currently attacking an enemy champion after a delay of two seconds. For the duration of the teleport, the targeted wolf is immune to damage and stuns, but dies as Shadan arrives. Upon arrival, Shadan grants all nearby wolves a 20% movespeed increase for 1.5 seconds.

On Self Cast: Shadan gains [30/40/50%] lifesteal for [5/7.5/10 seconds], increased by an additional 10% for each wolf within 1100 units of Shadan, and he gains the passive bonus of Command: Kill for the duration of GftT!. Shadan's wolves gain 50% of his lifesteal while within 500 units of him.

GftT! grants Shadan two wolves immediately upon use (either active or as stacks of Master of the Hunt). While GftT! is active, any wolf that is slain will immediately be replaced by another, consuming available stacks of Master of the Hunt.

For each rank of GftT, Shadan gains an additional active wolf for the duration of the ability. These wolves will persist for 30 seconds past the duration of GftT! unless otherwise slain.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Shadan is designed as a ranged jungle champion with incredible presence in his own jungle. When ahead, expect Shadan to extend that presence into the enemy's jungle with skillful use of wards and Lay in Wait, able to pick off low health junglers that stumble into his traps. Shadan lacks the initiation some may want from a jungler, having only Lay in Wait when cast on himself to really set up for ganks. As long as Shadan's wolves remain in good health, he can put out a fair amount of damage on unsuspecting victims.

Shadan's weakness lays in his poor base attack speed and the ability to remove large portions of his damage by killing his wolves, especially if they are slain before he utilizes his ultimate. Shadan can also be picked off himself outside of his ultimate given his lack of a tank steroid, relying solely on Lifesteal mechanics in teamfights to persist.

Builds:

Primarily we see Shadan picking up items such as Blade of the Ruined King as a primary damage item before shfiting into an off tank build. Given his high cooldowns, Trinity Force or the counterpart Iceborn Gauntlet would be considered weak options on him. Shadan synergizes with picking up a Frozen Mallet for some addition strength during ganks when ahead as well as to utilize the wolves to assist at pinning down moving targets.

So, this seems like a very solid champion, but it does have some design flaws, the most obvious one being that his entire kit revolves around killing one monster camp that may or may not even be in the game if Riot drastically changes the jungle like they did in the preseason. Also, some lore and more base stats would have been nice. Let's look at his abilities.

His passive is so specific that it could become entirely useless, if Shadan isn't the jungler. He doesn't actually seem that viable as one, anyway, as he has very little CC and not many damage dealing abilities. He actually doesn't seem to fit in, well, anywhere.

His Q deals way too much damage on way too short of a cooldown. At rank one it could kill enemy champions in three or four hit, regardless of other attacks. With his other abilities, minions and basic attacks in mind, this could one hit kill someone at level two or three.

His W deals almost no damage at early levels, way too much during the late game, and is difficult to understand. How far away can these wolves go? Isn't five minutes way too long? Would this be a good jungle ability or landing ability? Can you get new wolves while some are in Stealth? Why would you want a wolf to leave your side if they deal damage? Why are they slowed upon the activation of this ability? I just don't understand this ability at all. The self cast part of this ability seems boring and tedious,

His E is makes monsters almost defenseless, and is way too OP against champions unless the radius of this ability is very small. But 3000 u its? For 30 seconds? Really?

I don't understand his R at all. It might just be me, but I literally cannot process how this ability is used. All I know is that an infinite number of wolves is too OP.

Anyway, I really want to like this champion because it seems like such a good idea, but I just can't see how he would be viable at all. Sorry if I seem too harsh. I can't stress how much I love the concept, though.

Good luck in your future concepts!

We discussed it and opted to up the cooldown on Feral Quiver.

I like the design, especially Feral Quiver interaction with wolves.
