I'm told there are legal issues preventing Rioters from admitting even seeing most champion concepts posted by players, so...

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Definitely not done yet. I'm putting together some more changes to put in later, to help make his early game a bit less brutal. I'm also going to shift some more numbers around.
  • I'm not satisfied with the lore I've come up with. Any suggestions for a new angle or improvements to the current one are more than welcome.
  • And a reminder about the Boards in general: Posts that you think others should see don't go very far if you don't upvote them.

And on we go...

#Changelist (skip this section if you haven't read this post before):

Note: Crossed out changes have since been updated again, and no longer apply

2/12

  • Changed mana cost on Q; now scales from 60 to 80, changed from 60 to 100
  • Moved Armor/Mres passive from E to W, as per suggestion from Arcane Flux
  • Shortened Root duration for E; now 0.5, changed from 1.5
  • Removed Root from E entirely
  • Changed Focused Gravity stack gain for E; now 1/2/3/4/5, changed from 2 at all levels
  • Changed W duration and mana cost; now has no hard cap on duration, costs 30 mana to cast, and has an additional cost of 10 mana per second. doubling every second up to a cap of 320 per second, changed from 50 mana at all levels for 2/2.5/3/3.5/4 seconds
  • Added a Root to his Passive, procs at 10 stacks and lasts for 1.5 second
  • Added a very different version of (R) Black Hole. Read about it below! Old ult still there for comparison
  • Retuned damage for Q; now deals 10/12/14/16/18%, changed from 9/12/15/18/21%
  • Added conditional stun to Passive, applies when max stacks are reached while inside W

2/13

  • Shortened the duration of Q, but doubled the rate at which stacks are applied; now lasts 2 seconds, applying stacks every .25 seconds, changed from 3 seconds and every .5 seconds
  • Lowered Q cooldown; now 9/8/7/6/5, changed from 12/10.5/9/7.5/6
  • Raised Q base damage; now 12/14/16/18/20% over 2 seconds, changed from 10/12/14/16/18% over 3 seconds
  • Increased duration of R by .5 seconds, also added 150/250/350 (+.5 AP) magic damage
  • Specified that all ability damage is magic
  • Increased E cooldown at later levels; now 20/19/18/17/16, changed from 20/18/16/14/12
  • Lowered Q damage at early levels; now 8/11/14/17/20%, changed from 12/14/16/18/20%
  • Changed Q mana costs; now 60/70/80/90/100, changed from 60/65/70/75/80

2/14

  • Added 0.5 second delay to R
  • Lowered AP ratios on E and R; now .2 and .3, changed from .6 and .5

3/29

  • Changed Q damage; now deals 10/11/12/13/14% immediately, changed from 8/11/14/17/20% over 2 seconds. Passive stacking unchanged, still one stack every .25 seconds.

5/12

  • A few tweaks to R; victims are now disabled for 0.5 seconds as they are dragged (displaced) toward the center, and are then rooted for 1 second afterward. R-E combo stun duration decreased to 1 second, from 2 seconds.
  • Changed E AP ratio; now .3, up from .2.

#Gre'Zol, The Weight of the Void

Lore: (consider this a placeholder -- I'm lousy at story-telling) Chosen by his master as a vanguard for the gathering Void invasion, Gre'Zol's purpose is to impede any who might pose a threat to its success. Gre'Zol uses his control over the forces of gravity to incapacitate his enemies, weakening them for when the true army arrives. Two things make him the perfect candidate for his role; his unswerving loyalty to his master, and his utter lack of sympathy towards any that he deems to be beneath him.

"These creatures are... unworthy..."

Appearance: I envision him as being extremely dense-looking and solid. Perhaps vaguely similar to Malphite, he could be a sort of golem-type being. Slow, lumbering, heavy tread, very purposeful. I want him to feel like a force of nature.

Something like this, perhaps, but with straighter posture (full credit to whoever actually made it, by the way. I'm certainly no artist): http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130621081628/clashofclans/images/0/0b/Night_Golem.png

#Abilities: Gre'Zol is melee, best suited to play tanky support. He has a fairly poor early game, but in exchange he gets ENORMOUS utility in the form of huge slows and a potentially game-changing ult.

(Passive) Gravitational Pull

  • His abilities apply stacks of Focused Gravity. Enemies are slowed by 5% per stack for 2 seconds. Max 10 stacks. At max stacks the target is rooted for 1.5 seconds. If an enemy reaches max stacks while inside the area of Gravity Well, then they are stunned instead.

  • Achieving max stacks most often requires that he stay alive long enough to use Q more than once.

  • Enemies can only be rooted/stunned once for reaching 10 stacks. Stacks remain afterward, but must fall off first before the target can be rooted/stunned again.

(Q) Draining Singularity Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 mana Cooldown: 9/8/7/6/5 seconds

  • Active: Summons a singularity at target location, dealing 10/11/12/13/14% (+AP%) of current health as magic damage. The singularity remains for 2 seconds, applying a stack of Focused Gravity every .25 seconds.

  • Damage numbers highly tentative; can’t really tune them properly without being able to play it.

  • Slightly larger AOE than Swain's Nevermove skill. Shorter cast range, similar to Ryze's range.

  • It should be pretty poor damage early game, and scale up later on as the base damage and enemy health both increase.

  • Can be spammed late-game; I expect 40% CDR in most builds, which would put the cooldown at 3 seconds.

(W) Gravity Well Highly experimental mana cost Cost: 30 mana. Additionally costs 10 mana per second, doubling each second up to a cap of 320 per second Cooldown: 8 seconds at all levels (applies after being deactivated)

  • Passive: Gains 1/2/3/4/5 Armor and Magic Resistance per stack of Focused Gravity on a nearby enemy champion (max 10 stacks). Only counts the enemy champion with the most stacks.

  • Active: Intensifies gravity in a large AOE around Gre'Zol that slows all enemies inside it by 12/14/16/18/20% while active. Continually refreshes the duration of Focused Gravity.

  • If an enemy reaches max stacks while inside the area of Gravity Well, then they are stunned instead.

  • Can be deactivated at any time after initial cast.

  • Can theoretically be a permaslow, but to achieve anything longer than a few seconds he'll have to pay heavily for it.

  • The goal is to find a reason for him to remain in the middle of the fight for long periods of time, which in turn gives him more reason to build tanky rather than attempting to do damage.

(E) Orbital Slingshot Cost: 80 mana at all levels Cooldown: 20/19/18/17/16 seconds

  • Active: Dashes a short distance. If he passes over enemies, they take 50/75/100/125/150 (+.3 AP) magic damage and gain 2/2/3/3/4 stacks of Focused Gravity. If he aims his dash near Draining Singularity (within X degrees, Y range of the center), his trajectory becomes curved and greatly increases in range.

  • Dash speed would be relatively slow. Think slightly slower than Sejuani's Arctic Assault.

  • This would be both super cool and super complicated when used to slingshot yourself longer distances. Would take some practice to know your flight path without looking at the indicator.

  • Not sure about that cooldown yet, may increase it. I want it high enough that you can go into a fight, or escape, but not both, even with 40% CDR (which he would likely have in most games).

Leaning heavily toward the next iteration of this ult. Feel free to read this old version anyway:

(R) Black Hole Cost: 100 mana at all levels Cooldown: 150/130/110 seconds

  • Active: Channels for 2 seconds. During this channel, all nearby enemy champions are pulled inexorably towards him. No damage.

  • This ability still needs something, it's not right yet. Please offer any ideas for this one!

  • This would feel very similar to Galio's Idol of Durand, but would behave more like a channeled version of Diana's Moonfall: A displacement that does no damage. The lack of damage doesn't make it any less terrifying.

Experimental Ult:

(R) Black Hole Cost: 100 mana at all levels Cooldown: 150/140/130 seconds

  • Active: After 0.5 seconds, enlarges Draining Singularity into a Black Hole, which lasts 2.5 seconds and deals 1.5x damage. All nearby enemy champions are dragged toward the center over the next 0.5 seconds. They are then rooted for an additional 1 second.

  • If Gre'Zol uses Orbital Slingshot to enter Black Hole's radius, he too is caught by its pull and crashes into it, imploding the Black Hole. This deals 150/250/350 (+.3 AP) magic damage and stuns all nearby enemies for 1 seconds.

  • AOE expands to somewhere around the size of Anivia's ult, probably a bit smaller.

  • The 1 second root is cut short if the Black Hole duration ends during it.

  • Enemies can still reach maximum stacks of Focused Gravity while under the effects of Black Hole, in which case they are rooted/stunned appropriately, but continue to be affected by Black Hole CC as well.

To those who may have seen my previous post about a "Gravity Manipulator", this is a massively updated version of that. Old post now redirects here instead. Any suggestions, upvotes, and (constructive) feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Solid, man. Good work! I like where the lore is going, but it needs more. The slingshot thing would be awesome! Keep it up, I'll check back.

"The void. A massive expanse of darkness home to many creatures strange and unlike this world, creatures beyond comprehension, those that would seek to devour mankind on an equally massive scale. However, most void creatures have a reason for the destruction of the inhabitants of Runeterra. Whether it be a need to eat in the case of Kog'Maw or Kha'Zix, or a need to study the inhabitants, in the case of Vel'Koz. There are those, however, that wish nothing more than the destruction of all life as a whole. Those that only want to see everything crushed before them. Enter Gre'Zol, the Weight of the Void. Gre'Zol was a mere fledgling amongst the other void creatures, he only wanted to learn from the more powerful of his kind. He studied closely as they slithered, crawled, burrowed, and flew, and yet he never felt satiated on the knowledge he was retaining. When he was older, his fascination with the powers of his homeworld was becoming to much for him. He began to lust for more. He was not going to sit idly by while his peers simply outclassed him in everything. One faithful day, he finally snapped. He went on a massive killing spree, ending the existences of void creatures wherever possible, until a strange force came over him. Pain, seering light blasted through him, and before he knew what had happened, he was in a much different place. Still enraged, the lumbering giant looked before him, seeing lush fields and beautiful plains. And then, he saw a human. A farmer. He saw Gre'Zol and screamed. Gre'Zol, still enraged, saw the screaming and took it as a challenge. With one fell swipe of his hand, Gre'Zol drew the farmer unto his gravitational mass, never to be seen again. It took the summoners of the League of Legends almost 5 days, but they had finally restrained him, and bound him to the arena. Gre'Zol no longer resides in the void, he was cast from grace, and now he seeks to destroy all other void creatures, until none remain."

New lore.

You should lower his q dmg at later lvs. It is an aoe that does 21% of the enemies current hp at max rank, which is a bit too much.

Man I love that ult xD

But does the cooldown justify how easy it is to interrupt the channel? (Nunu & Kata)

This is cool! The passive got me thinking though. What if, since he's supposed to be a super dense, heavy being, that his passive made enemies hit by damaging spells run away from him slowly, but had no effect if they were running to him? That way he'd be better at chasing, not as good at fleeing. O.o

Great idea, but ult needs work since it's nearly identical to Enigma's ult from Dota 2.

This is a pretty cool concept; just one thing that stuck out to me, it's be cool if you offered ranges for his abilities, just to get a better sense of what they look like. Otherwise seems like a pretty cool concept, reminds me a bit of Maokai honestly

Make the ult massively slow enemies going away from it while giving speed to any unit going towards the heart of the black hole while dealing constant damage, increasing based on your proximity to the core.

If you go close enough to the core, you will be silenced until you leave. It'll synergize with gravity well so his goal will be to create the black hole and then use the gravity to suck people inwards while the innate slowing of the black hole will prevent speedy escape.

Also here's my idea for his lore, it's basically changed his alignment to that of humanity rather than the void, but a force of nature seems more likely to prefer the relatively peaceful ways of humans rather than the savagery that could be expected from void creatures

Ancient records among civilizations around the whole world would show signs of magical golems that would assist in constructing their greatness. From the now-ruined citadels of the Howling Abyss in the Freljord to the abandoned city of Icathia in Shurima, and even the magnificent Monasteries of Ionia, these beings have seemed to leave their mark. Although once thought to have been of magical creation to aid in construction, the origins of these beings was made more clear as the ritual used to bring forth these beings was one of summoning, not of animation. These lost civilizations seemed to have unwittingly created points for the void to pour forth, but the most surprising part of this discovery is that the massive golems of the purple nothingness were docile. They would serve when summoned and then leave without a trace. They lacked the typical hunger of void creatures, and perhaps even shared their secrets of manipulating gravity, as they were summoned for their arcane arts rather than their brute strength.

Although introducing new creatures of the Void is considered dangerous and risky by many, these beings seem willing, even anxious, to serve humanity. Summoners have now enlisted the aid of these friendly beings for combat purposes, and while many of their kind seem to have a hatred for combat, Grezel is one of the few that has shown complete obedience towards those that would bring him to this plane of existence.

If I were to give something in terms of lore, how about making it so he's sort of a rival to Vel'Koz? Vel seems to have potentially come to Runeterra for the purpose of studying it for a coming invasion, so why not have it so they have different approaches to it? Vel, in part for selfish reasons as well as thinking it's the better method for invasion, believes they should study the world of Runeterra and gather as much knowledge about it as possible (Being selfish because he enjoys gathering knowledge) before invading, while Gre believes they should simply invade as soon as possible so as to follow his master's wishes and please him.

But overall, I like the concept and ideas for abilities you have here. Ashe/Gre bot lane OP.

SpecterVonBaren3/4/2015, 4:56:02 AM1 votes

In terms of gameplay, perhaps you could add a mana restoration component to his passive. Perhaps have it so

His damaging abilities apply stacks of Focused Gravity. Enemies are slowed by 5% per stack for 2 seconds. Max 10 stacks. At max stacks the target is rooted for 1.5 seconds. If an enemy reaches max stacks while inside the area of Gravity Well, then they are stunned instead.

So Gre'Zol would also gain a stacking mana recovery for each stack of his passive. So maybe he gets 1 mana for one stack, 2 mana for two stacks, 3 stacks for 3, ect. Or perhaps have it so that if he roots an enemy with his passive he recovers something like 5% of his maximum mana.

I like it, everything about it. The theme of gravity is especially attractive and I like the skillset , this should definitely be a thing.
