In a distant future, on top of a tower not yet built, the Temporal Magistrates gather at twilight. The blue glow of chrono crystals illuminate stern faces aged by the impending task. This is more than just policing Runeterra’s rising crime of illegal time portals or apprehending rogue chronomancers selling trans-dimensional magic. For three decades, the Temporal Magistrates have worked tirelessly to avoid exercising tonight’s protocol. But despite their best efforts to change the course of time, the irretrievable ripple was cast into the time stream long before the Magistrate’s formation. Now under the leadership of Mother Superior Octavia, the Temporal Magistrates agree that if the future cannot be redirected, then the past must be rewritten. Runeterra’s apocalypse is not an acceptable future.

This mission of utmost importance could not have been given to anyone else. As the most skillful time mage, Octavia is best equipped to travel through time and hunt down the trigger of Runeterra’s foreseen catastrophe – a man the oracles have named The First. Unknown to the other Magistrates, Octavia has already seen this man numerous times in her childhood dreams, meeting him in different worlds at different times. These visions were believed by her childhood doctors to be nothing more than minor symptoms of lingering mental instabilities inherent within Octavia’s family line. Yet even then, the young Octavia knew the flashes and blackouts she experienced were glimpses of actual realities – with sometimes frightening, sometimes inspiring, but always endless possibilities.

Taking one last breath from her world, Octavia grasps her chrono crystal, and begins to channel a time portal. Finally, she will meet the old man from her dreams.

“Destiny is an illusion accepted by those who lack conviction.”

— Octavia
