Fiddlesticks Rework
Today I would like to talk about a champion rework idea that a buddy of mine (The Kilburn King) and I came up with in regards to Fiddlesticks. The two of us have created many champion ideas for the game, but this was the first idea I thought was good enough to actually post. While I don't expect this to be the version of Fiddlesticks we get, (because Riot is currently working on a Fiddlesticks rework) it would be a really awesome kit if it were.
So Why Rework Fiddlesticks? Riot has already gone over this a bit. His kit has very little counter play. Every one of his moves is single target so if you are in his range he affects you no matter what. He has two single target CC effects if you count silence. His W has such a low cool down now that it is hard to punish him in between Drains. His passive is helpful, but lets be honest, not very impactful. And his ultimate my be the worst thing about him. It's a really strong move, don't get me wrong, but perhaps too strong. Most of Fiddlesticks' success relies on him landing the ultimate perfectly. This often makes Fiddlesticks either too strong and you can't do anything about it, or too weak that he gets stomped on.
What about Fiddlesticks do we need to keep? This question we had to answer on our own as we don't know Riot's plans and what they feel needs to remain. We believe that the overall aesthetic of a creepy living scarecrow, wielding a scythe and bringing doom was the core of this champion and needed to stay. We also felt that drain was a massive part of what makes him a jungler and needed to be kept, although we did adjust it. Everything else, from his ult to his passive, we feel could be changed.
What about his lore? Fiddlesticks lore is a bit weak to be honest. A man who did a town wrong was hung in a field and somehow the crows eating him brought him to life and created Fiddlesticks. It doesn't make much sense and I decided to take it in a different direction. On top of that, I didn't feel it made sense that he was a ranged champion. He wields a scythe that somehow fires crescent beams? It just feels odd and it would be much more terrifying if he ran up and started scythe slashing people.
A few quick notes. In this version, Fiddlesticks is a Melee champion. His visuals will include spirit crows leaving and entering different scarecrow bodies.
Thanks for reading the intro, I hope you like this direction.
Fiddlesticks
The Harbinger of Doom
Lore The Evil King Elddif ruled over and ancient kingdom many years ago. He ruled with an iron fist, and used soul magic to extend his life. His rule was tyrannical and cruel and eventually a resistance was formed to remove him from the throne. A massive civil war ripped the country apart and when the resistance heroes were successful, Elddif was forced to retreat from his castle. While trying to flee the country, a group of resistance fighters tracked Elddif to farm just outside the capital and wounded him. Desperate to never die, Elddif used every bit of soul magic in his being to cast a spell over then entire farm. Green and black energy ripped him and every living being on that farm to pieces, and morphed their souls into hundreds of Green eyed spirit crows. These crows possessed the nearby Scarecrows and the nightmare that is Fiddlesticks, began.
ABILITIES
Passive: Army of Dread
Scarecrow - Fiddlesticks's abilities create Scarcrow which look exactly like him and follow certain behaviors.
- They have three hit bars, only removable by champion autoattacks.
- They last for 10 minutes.
- They constantly apply Dread to all enemy units within a 400 unit radius around them.
- They reveal the area within the 400 units when attacked by a champion and ping the mini map for the Fiddlesticks player.
- When they are destroyed, they apply dread to whichever champion destroyed them, even if that champion is out of range.
Dread - Lasts for 6 seconds. Whenever an ally champion deals damage to an enemy unit affected by Dread the affected champion is consumed with fear and runs from whichever champion dealt the damage to it. Dread cannot then be reapplied to that champion for another 12 seconds.
One of Many - If Fiddlesticks stands still for 1.5 seconds, he becomes completely still, and all visuals including his name, buffs, auras, and the green lights in his eyes disappear. He and his health bar look just like a _Scarecrow _ to enemy units and he applies Dread to all enemy units around him. One of Many ends when Fiddlesticks is dealt damage, or makes a movement action.
** Q:** Reap Passive: Fiddlesticks's autoattacks deal extra magic damage (AP scaling) on hit.
Active: Fiddlesticks swipes his scythe in arch in front of him. Dealing magic damage (AP scaling) to all enemies in a 70 degree by 500 unit cone. Enemies killed by the damage generate a Scarecrow on their corpse.
W: Drain Active: Fiddlesticks targets an enemy unit withing 1500 units. A spirit crow hovers over them for 6 seconds.
Passive: Fiddlesticks and all Scarecrow deal damage to any enemy unit with a crow on them that is within 400 units. Damage from multiple Scarecrow is slightly reduced. A percentage of the damage dealt by Fiddlesticks heals him.
E: Dark Wind Active: Fiddlesticks becomes untargetable for .75 seconds and reappears at target location within 400 units, leaving a Scarecrow behind in his original location and instantly triggering One of Many.
Dark Wind can target Scarecrow within 1500 units. When activated this way, Fiddlesticks replaces the targeted Scarecrow.
R: March of Doom Active: Spirit Crows erupt from Fiddlesticks and possess all Scarecrow within 1500 units for 12 seconds. The radius in which Scarecrow are possessed moves with Fiddlesticks, and any new Scarecrow created during the 12 seconds also become possessed.
Possessed Scarecrow function the same as Scarecrow with a few exceptions.
- They move and attack the nearest enemy unit prioritizing champions.
- Their damage is equal to the passive on Reap.
- Their hit bar becomes a health bar equal to a percentage of Fiddlesticks's AP.
- They give vision.
- They become a Scarecrow again after the effect ends.
Closing Thoughts As you can see, this version of Fiddlesticks would introduce a brand new hide and seek mechanic to league that no one else has. By killing jungle mobs with your Q and moving around the jungle with your E, you'll liter your jungle with Scarecrow. If an enemy wanders into your jungle, or anywhere you leave a Scarecrow, they have two choices. Leave it alone and Fiddlesticks wont know they are there, or attack the Scarecrow, revealing them selves and giving Fiddlesticks the time to react. It the Fiddlesticks player is playing right, he will force people into guessing which Scarecrow is the real Fiddlesticks, and punish them if their wrong. He can now move and attack while draining and can also deal damage in relation to other Scarecrow. Because of this, the cool down will be greater, and the damage a little lower. I felt this was necessary to allow Fiddlesticks to keep moving if need be since he feels better as a melee champion.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this vision of mine. Please leave any comments and any questions you have.
