[Story] The Spear's Retribution
The Spear's Retribution
Betrayal. It had all happened at once. A young man, with light brown hair and piercing green eyes. A boy, really. Just a few words, filled with contempt, then one quick motion, and suddenly he was bleeding on the cobblestone street. The blade was still stuck in his chest, glinting under the light of the full moon. He was alone and scared and dying. There was nothing he could do to save himself… but perhaps he might be able to avenge himself. Stories told of a creature from the dark and twisted Shadow Isles, one that hunted those who deceived others, those who turned on their friends, those who were nothing more than treacherous bastards. She was known only as Kalista, the Spear of Vengeance. He remembered overhearing a nearby merchant, talking to a customer about her most recent appearance in Demacia. The merchant had explained to the customer the way that it was rumored that you could summon her, but only on your deathbed. He began to recite the same words
“Spear of… V-Vengeance,”, he stumbled. His vision was fading quickly, and he hardly could move at all as a stream of blood continued to gush out onto the ground below. It was clear that he had only moments before death. But he knew that this was the only chance he might have to get his proper retribution.
“I offer m-my soul to thee, now.” Sweat and blood dripped from his body. Although he couldn’t see much anymore, he did notice a bluish mist begin to appear all around. Could it be true? He mustered up all that was left in his body for the final words.
“Let justice be done.”, he finished, then collapsed. He had done the ritual, and now all he could do was hope. As his eyes were finally closing and his last breath was drawing near, the last thing he saw was a silhouette in the mist, holding something long and sharp. A spear.
The young man died smiling.
Kalista drifted forward, ghostly spear in hand, toward the now lifeless body before her. Many before had done the same as this poor child, and she had helped them as well… but for a price.
With a wave of her hand, Kalista tore the young man’s soul from his body. The pale, bluish figure now in front of her looked around the scene in disbelief. “Your cause is our cause now.”, she spoke in a booming voice. Although scared, what was left of the man in front of her nodded. Kalista walked forward, until she was face to face with him.
“We fight as one.” Uttering these words, Kalista flung the spear to the ground. It began to glow eerily black, and the soul in front of her merged with her. Now they were one. Speaking with both voices at once, they repeated the words once more before departing.
“Let justice be done.”
Kalista walked along the road, making no noise as she searched for the traitor. The mist followed her, ebbing and flowing with each step. She could sense he was near. Looking ahead, she saw the roads were completely deserted. All the better, since it meant he couldn’t hide.
Suddenly, a silhouette appeared along the wall. It had to be the traitor. Kalista knew this was her opportunity to strike, and she bound forward. A spear solidified in her hand as she turned the alleyway. A middle-aged man with grey hair and dull brown eyes was pacing back and forth. Upon seeing Kalista, he began to babble incoherently.
“Your hands are those of a traitor’s. It is time for you to pay.”, she announced menacingly.
The man shouted, “You won’t take me!”, before turning and running down the nearby alley. They always tried to run, only to die quicker. Kalista bound forward after the man. He kept running, turning down different roads and sprinting ahead, not looking back at the spectre out for his head. But it was no use. Sooner or later, he’d slip up. Then he was hers to kill.
Finally, Kalista cornered the man. He had turned into a dead end road, and Kalista blocked the only exit. She held up her spear, and spoke gravely, “Nowhere left to run, betrayer. It’s time for vengeance.” The man desperately reached into his pocket and took out a wad of money.
“Here! Take it! Take whatever you want!” he shouted as he threw the money towards her. How daft they always were. They begged and pleaded for mercy after they turned on those who called them friends, and in the end, they always got the justice they deserved; a spear created out of the very hatred that gave her strength. The man was cowering in fear, looking around wildly. Kalista replied viciously, “You will pay with your life for your treachery, deceiver.”, and leveled the spear with the man’s chest. With a quick throw, she hurled it forward. He feebly attempted to jump out of the way, but her throw was much too fast for a mere mortal. It impaled him through the stomach, spilling blood onto the ground below him. He reached out in disbelief and looked at the eerily blue spear that was now pinning him to the stone wall. He managed to gurgle, “P-please,”, before Kalista readied and threw another spear, this time impaling him in the heart. The man slumped over, his now lifeless body against the wall. With another motion of her hand, Kalista too ripped his soul away. However, she did not speak to this one at all. Rather, she immediately pulled the soul to her, along with the spears still impaled in the body. With her work done, she turned away and walked into the mist, vanishing. Another hunt for the Spear of Vengeance finished.
So beware, traitors and deceivers, for there is no escaping Kalista’s wrath. The Spear of Vengeance will find you, and when it does, nothing can save you.
So tl;dr Kalista goes hunting for a traitor in Demacia and kills him. This is a short story I wrote about League, and I have several other, longer stories if you’re interested. Links are below.
