Champion Idea - Vira, The Tempo of the Tide
Hi there everyone! Before you go ahead and read this wall of text, I want to let you know that this is my first champion idea I've ever had. I've long wanted the idea of a truly "zen" champion, that sort of worked with the flow of the game. So, yeah, I decided to make one. Constructive criticism and feedback is greatly appreciated. Anyway, without any further ado, here's Vira.
_ “Cold” was not an apt description for the ruthless and biting frost that brushed against Vira’s eyelids as she poised in the snow meditating. She breathed in deeply and the snow around her retreated, melting in a small circle. A stubble of grass grew around her feet and flowers bloomed next to her. The green contrasted sharply with the blinding white of the surrounding pine forest, looming giants covered with a fine and dusty snow. Vira breathed out sharply and the grass and flowers around her wilted and grew brown, then the snow piled up around her feet once more. A gaunt old woman stood to the side, hands clasped behind her back and nose poised in the air. She shared some features with Vira -- notably, the fair skin and deep blue eyes, but her face was stretched and wrinkled by years of worry, and years more of pain. She was also tiny compared to Vira, and she valiantly protested against the snow silently, seeming as though she were a blue jay with ruffled feathers, indignant at the unfair weather. She attempted to look down upon Vira, who was much taller. It didn’t work very well. “Don’t let your mind wander,” the old woman suddenly snapped. Vira flinched and a circle of snow vaporised in an area around her. The ground was scorched black, and Vira yelped and leapt back. A pillar of fire seemed to ignite and stretch toward the heavens where she once stood. “Mother,” said Vira, exasperated, “I was doing perfectly fine. There’s no need for anger when I’m trying my be-” She was cut off by her angry mother. “Perfectly fine, eh? That’s why there’s now ashes in my lovely forest. Remember: harmony, balance and...” “Truth,” finished Vira, reluctantly and with an exaggerated eyeroll. “I know, mother. I just feel like I’m going in circles with this whole thing, I’m not even getting anywhere.” Vira’s mother sighed and her face softened. “Vira... Life is a cycle. Circles are a representation of this cycle. You only feel this way because you have not opened your consciousness to the whole, and have not awakened to your purpose. Now, again. Open your mental eyes, not your physical ones. Feel the bounds of this earth and break them. You are the cycle. Channel the tempo of the universe.” Vira sighed and retreated to her previous position in the snow, hands clasped in front of her chest, eyes shut. Her mother smiled hopefully and treaded away from her. She walked deeper into the forest, lost in careless thought, absorbed in some unseen matter. She brushed past a tree and was suddenly hit by a blunt metal object, and a grubby and massive hand was clasped over her mouth. A huge lumbering man towered behind her, toothy grin plastered on his face. “Found ya, Arian. Now where’s the girl? General’s orders, see. Noxus needs someone of her capabilities. We’ll turn her into a killer right quick,” he said, smug. Arian’s eye were wide with fear, but her eyebrows furrowed down in anger. “You got an answer for me, love?” asked the giant man. He unclasped his hand from her mouth, and Arian spat in his eye. “She’ll kill you,” said Arian matter of factly. “Don’t plan on dying, thanks,” chuckled the man. He reached for a sheath at his belt and revealed a rather barbaric hunting knife. He pulled it up to her throat, grinned again psychopathically, and the snow was splattered crimson, soon accompanied by Arian’s lifeless body. Vira stood behind Arian as she collapsed, aghast at her mother’s murderer. The man looked up, noticed Vira, shrugged and said, “I guess today’s just a lucky day, huh?” Vira’s heartbeat quickened as her mother’s blood pooled on the ground. Fury rose from her soul, but as quickly as her anger welled up it dissipated and left her almost hollow. She felt empty. Her heartbeat slowed again, and she followed the tempo of it. Lub dub, lub dub. Her mind was stilled, and as the man strode confidently toward her she moved with the simultaneous force and grace of the coming tide. She swept her leg and hooked him around. He was caught offguard by the sudden force and fell unbalanced -- briefly, but it was enough. She twisted into his chest and grabbed his arm. He whirled into the snow, face-planted into the ground. Vira dug her feet in behind his head and mercilessly pressed down. She was empty inside now, only the rhythm of the endless cyclic nature to guide her mind. She pushed down even harder now, sickening crunch of the man’s bone resounding unnervingly through the forest. Vira turned and walked from the clearing, tears streaming from her eyes, two corpses dotting the frozen ground. She walked in time with her heartbeat, following the tempo of her cycle, following the tempo of the universe. _
Vira, the Tempo of the Tide
Passive - Tempo
- Vira’s attacks and skills follow her heartbeat, which beats once every 2/1.5/1 seconds. When her skills and attacks follow her heartbeat, she gains a stack of momentum. If she uses a skill or attacks off time, doesn’t use a skill or attack for 25 seconds, or is disabled in any way, she loses all stacks of momentum. Vira will not lose a stack of momentum if she does not cast a spell/attack. There is a small timer on her buff bar that indicates when it will beat.
- Momentum: For each stack of momentum Vira has, her attacks and spells deal 5/10/15 (+.01AD) extra damage as magic damage, and her heartbeat quickens by .1 seconds, until she reaches the minimum of .5 seconds. Upon reaching 10 stacks of momentum, she may choose to consume them, gaining a permanent 5 AD. Vira can have up to 20 stacks of momentum.
Q - Quick step
-
20 mana, costing an additional 10 mana per stack of momentum, 3 second cooldown
-
Vira dashes toward target location by (10/20/30/40/50) range, multiplied by the number of stacks of momentum.
W - Trials of Fire
-
60/55/50/45/40 mana, costing an additional 10 mana per stack of momentum, 8 second cooldown
-
Vira’s basic attacks gain (50/75/100/125/150) range and pull enemies slightly toward her by half that range for 4 seconds. Goes on cooldown after buff expires. At 16 stacks of momentum, Trials of Fire is enabled until she loses those stacks.
E - Breath of Life
-
80/85/90/95/100 mana, 10/9/8/7/6 second cooldown
-
Vira regenerates a percentage of her health equal to her momentum stacks, but consumes all stacks. If cast on beat, 1/3 of the stacks (rounded down) will remain.
R - Inevitability
-
125 mana, 45 second cooldown
-
Vira sets up for .5 seconds and then channels for as long as the key is pressed, and counters the next incoming attack or spell from any champion. She will mark the champion who hit her, and, within the next 7 seconds, may blink instantly to their location, rooting them for 1/1.5/2 seconds, dealing 100/200/300 (+5 per momentum stack, +100%AD) damage, and gaining 15 stacks of momentum. The blink part of the spell has no range limitations.
Vira is a brutal but slow top laner who focuses on consistent damage and keeping her “flow” in gameplay. She is an melee AD assassin who gets stronger the longer she stays in combat or lane. She is deceptively mobile with her Quick Step (q) but is easily shut down by any form of CC. She’s special in that she’s a slow assassin, who bides her time and waits until she has enough stacks of momentum to deal some serious damage. She has moderate sustain with her E, but early game she will suffer for lack of damage, and she will be shutdown if the enemy laner immediately recognizes the threat she poses and piles on the poke (to which she has no real answer).
