#Abilities

Passive: Heating up, Burning Through Haka gains 1/2/3/4/5% bonus armor pen at lvls 1/4/8/12/16. After 2 sec of combat with the same enemy his current armor pen against them is increased by 16.67% per AA up to 15%. While at least 1 ability is on CD, after firing his flamethrower for 4 (reduced by CDR) seconds he converts 30% of his armor pen into armor reduction on abilities for 4 sec capping at 18%. Each instance of armor reduction last 4 sec. After the duration this passive will go on a 8 sec CD (reduced by CDR).

Q: Line of Fire Range: 725/ 100 degree cone CD: 12 Passive: Fire Shield After an ability has been activated, his oil urchin armor is ignited for 6 sec. Enemies that attack him within 300 units have their AD reduced by 10% ( + a # = 5% of his AD). While this ability is on CD the passive is deactivated. Active: Haka blasts a line of fire in a locked direction Cone shape starting from right to left over 2.5 sec dealing DoT in a linear AoE. This leaves an Ash trail on the ground where it ends. Enemies currently being damaged by this ability have their Self Heals and Health Regen disabled.

W: Ash Reignition Passive: Every unit that he gains an Takedown on leaves behind a burning mass that burns down to Ash over 3 sec. Ash covers a 70 (x3% targets health) unit radius AoE and lasts 6 sec. If he damages a unit on Ash, it flares up over 0.5 sec consuming it, dealing AoE damage. Reignited Ash can additionally Reignite other Ash AoEs in succession if their AoEs overlap. If Haka enters Ash when it flares it it activates Fire Shield. If Haka enters an Ash AoE while Fire Shield is active it will cause it to flare up.

E: Sea Serpent Harpoon Range 800/1000 CD: 16 Haka launches the flaming front of the flame thrower in a target direction. The first enemy unit is damaged and grounded. The unit hit is tethered for 3 sec and is slowed by 75% when walking more than 800 units away from Haka.

R: Sea of Flames Range: 900/450 Recharge time: 50/30/15 Haka sets down an oil Urchin that leaks oil that turns into ash over time. The longer the oil Urchin lasts the bigger the AoE of Ash gets up to a max of a 450 unit radius at 6 sec. Haka can damage the Urchin to ignite the Ash. Ash AoE's connected to an Urchin will last for 30 sec and burn dealing DoT for 3 sec instead of instantly flaring up. Oil Urchins are visible and can be AA'd 3/4/5 time to destroy them (but not the Ash). He can have up to 6 oil Urchins on the map.

#Lore Haka grew up as a fire dancer and fisherman on a special isle of the Serpent Isles. This is the place that that he would put his life on the line to protect and the peoples who live there.

This Isle has a unique place in the ecosystem of the surrounding waters and it holds important position within economy of the Serpent Isles. Haka and many other of the natives have come to regard the Isle as being blessed and cursed by the Bearded Lady, as this very place is considered the birthplace of the Bearded Lady. She keeps an especially careful eye on this location and the islanders take special care not to anger her. Its waters are a birth nursery where the sea serpents come to mate and raise their young. Haka was raised to hunt adolescents serpents, and has begun to start passing on his own skills to an apprentice of his own.

At this time it was once again mating season for the sea serpents, and even though the during this time the Bearded Lady was always on edge the islanders still needed to eat and always were sure to give her an especially generous gift during the sea serpent hunt.

They sailed out to sea serpent reef, a place where a giant sea serpent died decades ago. The coral reefs flourished there on the calcium rich bones and nourished an especially rich ecosystem. The natives had been passing this location down for generations.

As always before every sea hunt Haka reminded his apprentice Iwiki to keep his tricks and jests to a minimum, who was always pretending to be a pirate that he had heard stories of. Haka appreciated the softscale’s energetic spirit, but a sea hunt was no place for jokes especially during sea serpent mating season. Haka discouraged him pretending to be a dishonorable pirate, warning that oceans would teach him a lesson. As usual Iwiki wouldn’t calm down. It didn’t bother Haka yet, because it wasn’t night yet. When the sun set the fishing fleet would spread floating nets with oil urchins woven in. The oil urchins produced oil on their spines that could be lit without hurting them, and the oil urchins’ light and smell would attract the sea serpents best at night.

Things took a turn for the worse when Iwiki - true to his namesake of the flightless bird of the island fables who tempts the snake by flying around its head until the snake takes its wing - took up a fishing knife to enact out an imagined fight against an enemy pirate. In his act, he tripped on unused rope on the edge of the deck cutting his arm as he flailed into the water. The sea serpents towering dorsal fins appeared before anyone else in the fishing fleet registered the sound of Iwiki’s splash. Haka knew he wouldn’t have enough time to throw Iwiki the rope and pull him in before the sea serpents were onto him, but he couldn’t just give Iwiki up yet. The fishing fleet already had their gift to the Bearded Lady on another boat. Iwiki wouldn’t have his reburial at sea to the Bearded Lady today! Haka took the jars of urchin and sea serpent oil and threw them into the waters between Iwiki and the quickly nearing sea serpents, before throwing a torch in after. The flame that fed on these sea creature oils burned so hotly that they continued to burn even in water and stuck like palm sap to any skin or scale. This oil was useful mostly only at sea or if kept in jars because it dried out extremely quickly when exposed to air into an ash like crust. Haka nearly surrounded the boat with the burning oil cutting off the sea serpents from Iwiki so he could swim back, but leaving a opening to sail out of.

But the frenzy had begun, the sea serpents had been riled up and the Bearded Lady had been enraged having had her gift stolen from her so quickly after it had been given. The other boats of the fishing fleet were forced to back off as the sea serpents closed in on the lone catamaran, the only way out was to fight their way out. Haka crafted a weapon that could throw the flames at the serpents lashing a torch to the front of a medium sized serpent caller horn, and a large urchin and serpent oil reservoir gourd with a shoulder strap. For three days and nights he fought off the sea serpents, the blazing hot flames burning through their hard scales and thick fat. When the serpents couldn’t get at his ship they turned toward the other ships in their fury throwing themselves at anything above the surface of the waters that moved. Haka shot sea serpent hooks into them to keep from their targets and pulled them back into range of his makeshift weapon and quelled them, leaving a sea serpent graveyard in his wake. The flames continued to burn on the dead serpents floating on the surface, when it reached their oil reserves, the flames belched hotter in small explosions. The Bearded Lady might be angry but his will to protect his people burned even hotter.

From that event forward Haka was known as the Sea Serpent Slayer.

Design Insights

Haka was designed around Polynesian culture with an emphasis on the Maori. His W is based off the Maori’s tradition of burying the dead, digging them back up again and the burying them again. He actually has a quote that bares similarity to one allegedly stated by a Maori Chief For the LoL’s indigenous islander culture, they believe that “The sun is the source of the ocean's vitality. Just like the heart is the source of the bodies strength” The tattoo on his chest and shoulder mirror this The urchins that make up his armor on his left shoulder and right forearm are actually still alive.
