Pantheon Rework Proposal
I'm not super keen on how champion balancing works so damage numbers on abilities and most other numbers are left out. Rather, it's the mechanics of how this rendition of Pantheon
could work. It's all theory and speculation, if you have any ideas pitch them in too! While I myself LOVE to play Pantheon, his kit is rather basic and a rework wouldn't hurt him. Or maybe it will? Who knows.
Pantheon, the Aspect of War
Passive: Aegis Protection (Unchanged)
[Q]
(Offensive Stance) Spear Shot: [800 range] Throws spear at target location dealing physical damage, rooting an enemy for 1 seconds. When Pantheon launches his spear, his range is reduced until he retrieves his spear or the cooldown on Spear Shot ends. Until then, he’ll use a short sword for basic attacks.
175 range w/ Spear, 125 range with Shortsword.
(Defensive Stance) Spear Thrust: Pantheon thrusts his spear in a forward line with a range of 400 units, dealing physical damage and ignoring 10/12/14/16/18/22% of the target’s armor.
[W] Aegis of Zeonia:
(Offensive Stance) Pantheon gains increased movement speed when moving towards enemy champions and the next basic attack will be a shield bash that stuns the target for 1 second.
(Defensive Stance) Pantheon pushes his shield forward knocking back enemy champions 200 units, slowing them for 2 seconds.
[E] Heartseeker Strike:
(Offensive Stance) Pantheon’s Autos and Spear crit when the target is below 15% health. Same AoE cone we all know and love.
[R] Aspect of War: Pantheon changes between an offensive/mobile stance or a defensive/slow stance.
When in an Offensive Stance, Pantheon gains temporary health regeneration for 1 seconds after killing a minion (2 + 0.5% of max hp), regeneration lasts 5 seconds with increased healing after killing a champion (10 + 5% of max HP)..
When in the Defensive Stance, Aegis Protection provides a block every 3rd attack instead of every 4th. Pantheon has increased armor (small amount), takes reduced damage from basic attacks, but has less movement speed.
Notes:
Pantheon’s kit has been a simple point and click for some time. He’s been known as one of the best early game champs but falls off hard pretty late. Now, Pantheon is to be the Aspect of War Spartan-esque character but he really comes off as all offense. There’s more to war than all out attack, it never hurts to have some defense as well.
The goal of this proposal was to retain some of his early game power while offering a different fighting style and more counterplay. It can be annoying to deal with a spear that you can’t block without a shield or run away from, which is why in this rendition of Pantheon, it’s a Skill Shot when in an offensive stance.
With his W now making his stun bound to an auto attack, this gives more mobile champs a chance to get away. On the flip side, this is good for pantheon to chase any enemy champions running away.
As for his E, I couldn’t think of something better. Sorry shrugs
His ult is now a Stance Changer, similar to how Jayce or Nidalee transform to change their fighting styles. While not quite acting as a tank, he can act as an off tank of sorts and deal with ranged units.
My ideas came from watching this video over and over (https://youtu.be/HdNn5TZu6R8). Spartans were known to be undefeatable and even they knew when to be defensive and when to press on the attack, this rendition of Pantheon does the same.
If a tanky enemy gets in his face, Pantheon takes their damage and uses his mastery of the spear to precisely puncture through the weak points of his foe’s armor with his Q. If he’s against a mobile or ranged unit, it’s better to be in an offensive stance to effectively kill them with the root tied to his Q which pairs with his increased movement speed and stun with his W.
This can lead someone to build Pantheon as a high mobility fighter or a form of Off-Tank that provides CC but is unable to protect his allies as well as some other tanks.
His QWE will have 6 ranks instead of 5 due to his R being a stance change.
Anyway, this is all just thoughts, how do you think Pantheon can be updated for the summoner's rift of today?
