Athena - The Eternal Queen
Hello,
Summary Athena uses chess pieces to shape the battle, and her ult slows down the game time to let her make strategic moves.
Lore Athena was the only daughter of a legendary king in the east. Since she was young, she showed a remarkable intelligence, and there was no better test to her skills than chess. She played it day and night, against chess masters from all over the countries. The king offered generous rewards to whoever can give his daughter a worthy challenge, and a grand prize of marrying her to whoever can win against her. There were a lot of worthy challengers, but none could win the hands of the princess. On her 21th birthday, she was announced as the royal princess and the only successor of the king. As a royal present, the king gave Athena a beautiful chess set, made by the hands of a famous sculptor. The white pieces were made out of pure ivory and gold, and the black pieces were made out of black ivory and ruby stones. Each piece was in real size (human size). As her father grew older, he could not lead his armies any more. Some enemies started attacking the empire boarders and claiming many lands as their own. The princess could never stand loss, and she believed a princess must do what she can to protect the empire, instead of setting and watching from her tower. Armed with her intelligence, her father's wisdom and his loyal army, Athena led armies to every side of the empire, rebelling any attacker and making them flee in terror and shame. Until one day, Athena led a small army to a cold region to defend against an invasion, but it was an ambush. The enemy has hired a dark mage to curse the princess. The princess sensed a weak movement in the bushes, and reacted and jumped from her horse a split second before a bolt of energy was shot from the bushes. Athena barely escaped the hit (it hit her foot instead of her chest), and the mage vanished in smoke. Athena could not feel her toes, and she knew the curse was going to spread all over her body. Immediately after she returned, the most brilliant mages and doctors were summoned and offered half the king's wealth to whoever can cure Athena. But in the end, the only way to let Athena live was to transform her soul to another body. A dark magic and a sacrifice were required for the spell to work, and the king was the most suitable canditate to increase the chances of success. The king chose an immortal and beautiful body for his daughter. A body that is immune to magic, disease and death. It was the ivory queen statue from Athena's chess set. When Athena woke up, she could not stand the loss of her father, she cared no more about the wealth and the kingdom, instead, she decided to achieving her final victory against the man who took her father away from her. After months of searching, she heard that the mage was in the League of Legends! and Athena did not hesitate to join. She took her father's sword and swore to make the sword taste revenge for her father.
Appearance Athena is a statue of a chess queen. She is made of Ivory and have no emotions, just a strong female face without emotions. She wears a golden crown, fights with a golden sword and holds a golden royal scepter on her chest. She has few jewelries, but she is made primarily from Ivory and gold only. She has another skin where she is made from black ivory and ruby. Athena's pieces are placed on a small chess board indicating their range. The board is colored yellow & black if the piece is immune, and black & white if the piece can be attacked.
Abilities Passive - Loyal Army Athena's soldiers gain bonus attack damage (% of Athena's AD) if she has more than 75% of her max HP. And they gain bonus attack speed (% of Athena's Attack speed) if she has less than 25% oh her max HP left. If Athena killed a champion, her soldiers gain a permanent 10 bonus attack damage. If a soldier killed a champion, all the soldiers will gain a permanent 5 bonus attack damage. Additionally, Athena's soldiers are immune to any damage for a % of each soldier's total duration.
Q - King Pawn Athena spawns a pawn in the selected location. The pawn lasts for 1 minute. The pawn attacks nearby enemies with his sword. The first enemy caught in the pawn's range is forced to fight the pawn for 0.5 seconds. The soldier has small damage and HP. Athena can have up to 8 soldiers at one time at level 18. The pawn is a simple soldier holding a sword.
W - Lucena's Rook Athena spawns a rook that dashes to the nearest enemy (prioritizing champions) after a brief delay, dealing damage and knocking them back. Athena can spawn another rook immediately after the first one. Each rook can dash to a different enemy (depending on the nearest one to each rook). Activating the ability again (3rd time) will make the two rooks dash towards each other. If two rooks hit the same enemy at the same time, the enemy will be stunned for 3 seconds. The two rooks will have a line of chess squares to show the path they will take when W is activated for the 3rd time. Each rook has 1500 HP, but if a rook was destroyed it will increase the CD of the ability. The rook disappears after 30 seconds, and can dash only once then stands idle after the dash. The rook is invisible until 0.5 second before it dashes. The rook has a ram's head and large horns, and rotates to face the enemy it is dashing to.
E - Brother Bishops Athena summons a bishop that attacks her enemies from a distance. The bishop is actually two bishops standing back to back. Each one of them can attack in a half circle area in front of him. The bishop has high damage but low health, and if it was destroyed, its CD will be increased. The bishops are standing owls with large eyebrows. They shoot white energy bolts from their eyes.
R - Check Mate! Athena slows down the time of the game, making everything (except her) move at 1/4 speed (similar to spectating a game with x0.25 speed). That means 4 seconds will pass in real time (and Athena's time) when only 1 second has passed in the game. This allows Athena to place her soldiers correctly and give her allies (and enemies!) a time to think. After the slow duration ends, Athena's soldiers will move immediately (without any delay). The ult can be immediately activated after 1st cast, this 2nd cast will make Athena summon a chess Knight that dashes to the nearest champion in its range (prioritizing champs with low HP). The Knight can dash from a champ to another (3 dashes at maximum), dealing lower damage in each dash than the previous one. Affected units will take increased damage from Athena and her soldiers for the next 5 seconds. If Athena or her soldiers killed an enemy during this duration, the CD on her abilities will be reduced.
Gamepaly While most champions have abilities that do instant damage, or hit instantly (If you cast the ability on a target, it will usually hit it), Athena's abilities (soldiers) can be avoided. That's why they deal more damage and gain extra damage after kills or assists. They are immune to damage for a while to allow them to do some damage. So each soldier has a minimum damage (dealt during immunity) and maximum damage (dealt after full duration ends), given the right positioning of the soldier and the enemy, of course. Athena needs to plan ahead, to expect where her target will be when her soldier's delay ends. And her opponent needs to predict her moves. Imagine Zed chasing Athena, she can spawn a rook to knock him away from her, a soldier to taunt him and draw his attention, or even ults and slow him down. Zed will have to adjust his movement to avoid possible places where Athena may spawn her soldiers. Athena's ult gives her a time to think and act, while allies and enemies will just think. Making allies move at normal speed is basically freezing the enemies for 4 seconds, It is worse than Sejuani's ult; since Athena can use the R without targets, she can slow the whole game when she ults. That's why allies and enemies should be slowed.
**Inspiration ** I am currently designing some champs, I have been thinking about a chess champ for a while, but did not really see it until Azir was revealed and I saw this picture.
Please tell me what you think about Athena
