(Champion Concept) The Tul, the People of the Pillars

LORE The Tul are a single mind spread throughout many odd, incredibly creepy mannequin-like constructions that summon the power of their leader that rests around the core of Runeterra. Many archaeologists have discovered the ruins of The Tul over time, believing them to be a long extinct cult from long before any modern civilization was formed. However, little do they know that what they found were simply the highest rooms of the buried civilization. Long ago, before organic life roamed Runeterra, the planet was much, much smaller and the surface was layered with magma. Volcanic activity ravaged the surface of the lifeless planet and any hope of life on the planet was considered impossible by space faring races. However, one race tried to colonize the planet none the less. The race struggled and struggled, but could not find a way to survive on the planet. They left the planet, leaving behind all they had built there. This included their doomed, puppet-like servants who watched as their masters left them to die on the surface of the volcanic planet. Rather than giving up hope, the servants split off into their own kind, calling themselves the Tul. The Tul began to use all of the resources available to them to build a shell around the small, volcanic planet to contain the lava within. Eventually, the planet was completely covered with the substance that the Tul were made out of. This substance could resist the lava and allowed the Tul to live on the planet for a long time. A select few of the remaining Tul began to worship the shell forged around the planet, naming it the Glory. The Tul began to build up their empire, focusing on their Glory when building structures. Eventually, they even gave their Glory a face by carving into the shell of the planet. The planet was a giant idol to their god. However, eventually the race that had left them behind returned to find the Tul worshiping their new home. Enraged at their creators, a great war began between the two races with the Tul coming out on top. The race's body parts were used to feed their Glory by dumping them into the mouth and into the lava beneath. Another space-faring race, bearing witness to this disgusting worship, spread rumor of the events to other space-faring races. Eventually, a group of them banded together and, in one swift action, buried all of the Tul and the shell under a thick layer of what is now known as rock, dirt, and various other minerals that make up the ground of Runeterra. After many centuries, life bloomed onto the surface of the planet due to the nearby star. The Tul remained buried and inactive for a long time. Life evolved until the current Runeterra became what it is today. The people of Piltover were granted permission by a town in Demacia to dig beneath their city in order to find potentially rich resources near the planet's core. They dug and dug for many years until, eventually, they did find something. However, it was not resources, but a hand. A hand that snapped and gripped at the throat of the digger who uncovered it. The first of the Tul awakened after many years, having changed. In order to survive, all of the Tul focused on the survival of a single mind between them all. Now awakened, the Tul flooded out from the planet's core, quickly taking over the Demacian town and raising a large pillar that exploded out from the planet's core. The Glory is what they believed had allowed them to survive for so long and, now freed, the Tul began their plot to take back what was originally their's: Runeterra. The pillar that exploded out from below ground was revealed to be an extremely large tower that served as a temple. It stretched far above the clouds and nearly into space. At the top is the Grand Priest of the Tul, who channels all of his energy into uncovering all of the Glory, slowly but surely.

Once risen, the Pillar of the Glory counts as indestructible, impassable terrain that lasts indefinitely. A maximum of 3/6/9/12/15 pillars can be created at one time. The pillar is in a square shape. Pillars cannot be placed beside each other, needing to be a minimum of 325 units apart from edge to edge. Pillars of the Glory do not block vision and do not provide any vision. Tul Priests can be destroyed by attacking them 3 times with a basic attack. They will not fight back. Upon all nearby Tul Priests being destroyed, the pillar will immediately stop emitting the aura. Tul Priests must be placed within 300 units of the edge of a Pillar of the Glory. A maximum of 8 Tul Priests can be worshiping the same pillar. Multiple auras from different pillars do not stack. Ability 3- Sacrifices for the Glory Passive: An additional 1/2/3/4/5 Pillars of the Glory can be risen out of the ground at one time. Active: The Tul Grand Priest's next basic attack will deal an additional 10/20/30/40/50 (+25% AP) magic damage and slow the target by 25% for 1 second. If The Tul Grand Priest is gaining benefits from a nearby Pillar of the Glory, the basic attack will instead deal 15/30/45/60/75 (+30% AP) bonus true damage and slow the target by 40% for 2 seconds. If the target dies from the enhanced version of this attack, the Tul Grand Priest's basic ability cool downs are reduced by 0.05 seconds permanently. This can reduce the cool downs of each basic ability down to 40% of their original value. Cost: 25/30/35/40/45 mana Cool Down: 19/18/17/16/15 seconds

Ultimate- Repel Heretics Active: The Tul Grand Priest sends out a pulse that travels across the map. When the pulse touches a Pillar of the Glory, the pillar sends out a pulse that deals 50/80/110 (+20% AP) magic damage and knocks back enemy units 500 units over 0.3 seconds. They are then silenced for 1.5/1.75/2 seconds. Each additional pulse that hits an enemy past the first will deal 50% reduced damage. Cost: 100 mana Cool Down: 165/155/145 seconds Range: Global Pulse Speed: 1400 Pillar Pulse Range: 550

  • (Aurelion Sol) The Glory is not scared of you, star freak.
  • (Azir) Ascension... a false practice to attempt to become equal to the Glory. What a childish practice indeed.

  • (Azir) Disgusting ascended human. Your state of being is heresy.
  • (Bard) You... you were once there. The Glory spoke of you, caretaker.
  • (Bard) Grand Caretaker, what brings you here? Has the Glory requested you?

  • (Pantheon) Targonian... we reserve no mercy for those responsible for this false world.
  • (Pantheon) Your blood will sate the Glory, "God" of War.
  • (Pantheon) You call yourself a god, but you are the one who locked us away in fear.
  • (Skarner) We relate to your kind's situation, but even your kind is also a spawn of this false word. Therefore, you must be annihilated.
  • (Tahm Kench) Demon...
  • (Tahm Kench) What an unholy mass of flesh.
  • (Xerath) You and the bird creature are the same; foolish children who think themselves to be gods.
  • (Xerath) You call yourself one, but a true god would not be so weak.
  • (Xerath) Power incarnate? We believe "stupidity incarnate" is more fitting.
  • (Yorick) You are the only one of this miserable species we respect. You know pain. You know death.
  • (Yorick) We may respect you, but you are still a miserable heretic, Yorick.
  • (Yorick) You long for death. Kindred will gladly take you.
  • (Zac) Your makers cared for you? What a distant thought.

  • The Glory finds this world to be filth.
  • Slowly, the Glory will rise from beneath.
  • The Glory will consume all false prophets.
  • We can sense them. They come to stop us. They will fail.

  • Disgusting dirt.
  • All this life. It will all serve as a buffet for the Glory.
  • This world is filled with heretics. They all must be killed.
  • The end for this false world draws nearer every day.
  • We see this entire world as disgusting heresy. We will end it.
  • The time is now. Now, we will bring the end to them: the filthy heretics.

Casting Pillars of the Glory

  • The feast of flesh begins now.
  • Yes, you are suitable.
  • This is your end.

Casting Repel Heretics (global)

  • Behold!
  • The Glory smites all!
  • The end of heresy!

The Tul is a unique Support that revolves around heavily changing the terrain of the map in hopes of helping his team strategically through areas of power. Furthermore, the Tul being controlled directly by the player has a powerful basic attack enhancement that can permanently reduce his basic (non-Ultimate) cool downs if it kills enemy units, allowing the Tul to be used in both the Support and Solo Lane. The Tul's ultimate, Repel Heretics, is an extremely powerful ultimate that causes all pillars on the map (usually being 25 once the Tul player gets going) to pulse and knockback each enemy hit. On top of that, they are afterwards silenced, allowing the Tul's team to follow up afterwards if they catch the enemy out with the ultimate. However, the long cool down on the ultimate that cannot be reduced by his E or by level makes it something to use sparingly throughout the game. The power that the Pillars of the Glory provide is nearly limitless. The Tul is an insane synergy Support for ADCs and other champions that interact with walls as well, providing them a constant supply of walls everywhere.

All in all, the Tul is an extremely unique in playstyle Support that makes me really like em'. Thank you for reading and any feedback is appreciated!

CHANGE LOG December 21st, 2016 11:30 AM EST

  • Changed the name of the Tul's god to The Glory from The Protector so as to not create confusion with the being in Taric's lore

December 22nd, 2016 12:30 AM EST

Base Stats

  • Base Armor increased to 17 from 15
  • Base Armor per Level reduced to 2.5 from 2.75
  • Base Movement Speed increased to 335 from 330
  • Base Attack Range increased to 150 from 125

Passive- The Glory

  • AP Ratio changed to (+10/15/20/25% AP) from (+15% AP) at all levels

Ability 1- Pillars of the Glory

  • Passive CDR provided reduced to 2/4/6/8/10% from 4/8/12/16/20%
  • Range increased to 1000 from 750

Ability 2- Tul Priests

  • A maximum of 9 Tul Priests can now be worshiping the same pillar
  • Mana Cost reduced to 25/30/35/40/45 mana from 40/45/50/55/60 mana
  • Cool Down reduced to 13/11.5/10/8.5/7 seconds from 17/14.5/12/9.5/7 seconds
  • Added to the tool tip that multiple auras do not stack

Ability 3- Sacrifices for the Glory

  • Pillar Enhanced AP Ratio reduced to (+30% AP) from (+35% AP)
  • Pillar Enhanced Slow Strength reduced to 40% from 50%
  • Pillar Enhanced Slow Duration reduced to 2 seconds from 2.5 seconds
  • Can now only reduce the cool down of his basic abilities to 40% of their original value (60% pre-CDR cool down reduction)
  • Cool Down Reduction per Kill increased to 0.05 seconds from 0.025 seconds
  • Mana Cost changed to 25/30/35/40/45 mana from 20/30/40/50/60 mana
  • Cool Down reduced to 19/18/17/16/15 seconds from 20/19.5/19/18.5/18 seconds

Ultimate- Repel Heretics

  • Damage increased to 50/80/110 (+20% AP) from 30/45/60 (+10% AP)
  • Subsequent pulses now deal 50% damage instead of 100% damage
  • Cool Down changed to 165/155/145 seconds from 160 seconds at all ranks
  • Pulse Speed increased to 1400 from 1000 (40% increase)

These changes were made with feedback I was given. The main ones affect Their W, E, and R. Their W can no longer stack an infinite number of Tul Priests onto one pillar for insane missing health regeneration, seeing as that just makes for extremely cheesy situations. Next, their E now provides a maximum cool down reduction benefit that varies between abilities. They all cannot be reduced below 40% of their original value (before normal CDR). Finally, their R has been changed to make it to where tons of bounces are not required for a decent bit of damage, but situations to where a large number of bounces occur no longer deal as much damage. There are also a number of other number changes throughout the kit to balance the character a little more.

December 22nd, 2016 1:00 PM EST

Ability 1- Pillars of the Glory

  • Creation Delay reduced to 2.5/2.25/2/1.75/1.5 seconds from 2.5 seconds at all ranks
  • Mana Cost reduced to 75/100/125/150/175 from 100/125/150/175/200
  • Range increased to 1100/1200/1300/1400/1500 from 1000 at all ranks

Ability 2- Tul Priest

  • Missing Health Heal AP Ratio reduced to (+0.2% per 100 AP) from (+0.4% per 100 AP)
  • Maximum number of Tul Priests per pillar reduced to 8 from 9
  • Mana Cost reduced to 10/15/20/25/30 from 25/30/35/40/45
  • Range increased to 1750 from 450

These changes are mainly focused on smoothing out the Tul late game and helping them out with mana costs a little. It also nerfs some of the insane missing health healing from the Tul Priest aura without gutting it. Previously, the maximum was 2.7% (+3.6% per 100 AP) missing health healing per second. Now it is 2.7% (+1.8% per 100 AP) missing health healing per second. Still very strong, but no where near the obsurd late game that they had before.

December 24th, 2016 11:55 AM EST

Ability 2- Tul Priest

  • Creation Delay reduced to 3 seconds from 3.25 seconds
  • Cool Down reduced to 13/11/9/7/5 seconds from 13/11.5/10/8.5/7 seconds

Ultimate- Repel Heretics

  • Knockback Distance increased to 500 from 250
  • Knockback Duration increased to 0.3 seconds from 0.25 seconds

These changes were made to compensate The Tul for some of the nerfs made earlier, which made them feel a little weak on the utility side, which is important to have decent strength in for a utility champion. Tul Priests can be made more quickly and the knockback distance of Repel Heretics has been buffed. The ultimate change also allows a perfectly set up line of pillars at just the right moment to chain knockbacks, but that would be the "Once in a life time holy crap" situation for this champion.

December 24th, 2016 12:07 PM EST

Ability 2- Tul Priest

  • New Effect: Now causes enemies who stay within the aura for at least 2 seconds to be Grounded until they exit the aura
  • Tul Priest Health reduced to 3 from 3/3/4/4/5

Further iterations to give The Tul more utility while making them funner to play against by making Tul Priests easier to clear out later in the game since 5 basic attacks per Tul Priest would take a while to clear out due to the low cool down and large supply of them on the battlefield. The Grounded effect is mainly so that diving into a Tul Priest Pillar Location forces you to stand and fight or run away on foot. I think they are in a decent spot utility-wise now.

Added Quotes

Passive- The Glory

  • Range increased to 750 from 700

Slightly increased the Passive range for a small buff.

This is definitely a unique champ concept. The idea of creating permanent terrain is completely new, and probably for good reason; depending on the size of the pillars, it could mess up pathing for enemies AND allies. Maybe find a way to make them destructible, but with a lot of work? Overall, though, I think the kit is well designed for a zone-control support. My one worry is that there is a severe lack of damage and CC. Usually you want one or the other on a champ, the healing mechanic probably isn't enough to compensate; I'm imagining a 2v2 fight breaking out and don't see many ways that the Tul would be of use, other than some healing and an ult for disengage. Maybe make the enhanced Sacrifices for the Glory attack stun instead of slow, and bring the duration back down to 1-1.5 sec?

A few minor thoughts, as well: Melee champions now have attack ranges of 175 The permanent CDR from Sacrifices of the Glory is difficult to grasp balance-wise. If it's too low, it becomes sort of pointless and doesn't have any real impact; too high, and it leads to insane snowballing. Either way, it would definitely need a cap to prevent the Tul from having 1-second cooldowns on everything eventually.

Really cool concept, though. Currently there's not much like it in the game

Absolutely love it!

Ability 3 seems a bit overpowered. Consider lowering the ap ratio. Also, your R might benefit from dealing more damage. You might want to scale damage with each pillar it passes through.

I could actually see this as a champion in game, and it sounds so cool!

I'm not so sure all this worshipping and cult based theme is a really good idea, but the concept is interesting nonetheless. By the way, the way you made it sound is that "The Protector" was made up by the Tul, but just so you know there is actually a being called "The Protector" in League's lore already, you can find out about it in Taric's lore.

The dates for the CCOS have been extended, so you now have much more time to do whatever it is you need to do - edit your concept, enter a new one, what have you.
