NEW RUNE SYSTEM (graphics, Explanation, all inside)
Hello boards friends, and welcome to a giant wall of text! (i'll try to keep it short as possible). As you can see this thread is all about a possible idea i have for the revamped Rune System, that hopefully one day will come to this game. Why? Because, let's be honest, the actual system in place right now is very obsolete, and while it's "functional" it's also limited and plain dull. A bunch of passives is not everything you want from a system with this much potential. Before we start remember this: I'm not english so i may do some grammatical errors, iwill completely ignore retarded comments or any criticism that isn't constructive, this thing took A LOT of hours. So let's get into it.
1 - INTENTION: Before i even start talking about runes you have to remember to be open minded, okay? So here is the big news: THIS SYSTEM IS NOT RELATED TO YOUR CHAMPION IN GAME AND DOES NOT ADD POWER (directly) TO IT. Why? Because if you do that you ends up with a bunch of passive bonuses like now or a Mastery system 2.0. Mastery is for the champions efectivness in game, This rune system is a totally different thing (but will have some intrications with you in game experience still!) Got that?!? Okay Move on:
2 - LORE/HISTORICAL CONTEXT: I wanted to try to add a lore related system, because really, why not? Still this will be "different" from the typical lore we see with factions here and there. So what are these Runes? I will quickly write down here my idea (wich is just one of many routes you could go really, take this as an example, if you don't care about lore move to the next segment):
Many many many years ago, Runeterra was a completely different place, there was a lot of vegetation, no humans, no yordles. Just the very primordial forms of life, from small insects to simple aquatic creatures. Runeterra was one of many worlds created by the Xavians, a very advanced race, that had the magic and technology to literally create planets.(why?, ask me in the comments if you want or it becomes too long here). The Xavian Empire was one of the three major factions in this universe, along with The Void, and the Vanguard of the White Sun. The Xavians did their best to protect and help the growth the new born Runeterra, as they did with all of their planets, but over the generations the threat of the Void was increasing, and these incredible creatures stright out from a horror film where slowly consuming magic and life on the planets, destroying all of the work of the Xavians. Eventually this forced the Xavians to form an alliance with the Vanguard of the White Sun, they set aside their differencies, and created a coalized army, lead by 2 generals (one for each faction): Brumantis and Zambar. They tried to fight back the Void incursions all around the universe, but eventually this all lead to a final conflict right above Runeterra. Brumantis and Zambar were forced to use a very ancient and powerful artifact: The Eye of the Universe, wich caused complete obliteration of the Void Army but at a great cost: The essences of both Brumantis and Zambar were trapped inside the great Rune of power of the artifact, and then the Eye of the Universe exploded, dividing itself into an incredible amount of small stones, charged with these essences and magics. Many of these Runes fell right back down into Runeterra, and to this day they still are here, waiting to be awakened. It is said that wwhoever is fortunate enough to be in possession of one of these runes has the power to move entire nations.

This is what the Rune System looks like: First let's explain the different types of Runes:
PRIMAL RUNES: There are a total of 12 Primal Runes. Primal Runes add an effect on your Hextech Crafting system: Examples: + 4% chance to get extra essences when you disenchant soemthing | + 0,5% chance to crat an additional random champion when you craft a champion | + 0,5% chance to get a Hexctech Box at the end of a ranked match if you win .... etc...
As you can see this are small tweaks here and there that add some flavor and randomness to the hextech crafting system. This is intended to be like this so that you create your own build depending on what you need or what you try to achieve. Need more champs? use those runes, Need more exxences? use those other. Want a bit of everything? mix it up.
CHAOS RUNES: There are 4 Chaos Runes. These runes add an impact on your in-game experience as a whole. Examples: If you Die shortly after scoring at least a double kill your death timer will be 70% shorter | YourTeleport summoner spell now has a large (not global) range, but the channel time is greatly reduced | Last hitting at least 25 minions in a row without failing will grant you a small gold bounty | Scoring 5 assist in a short amount of time will grant you bonus damage to turrets and epic monsters for small amount of time etc...
As you can see this runes impact your gameplay in game BUT it has a beneficial effect only if you fulfill a condition, this gives you the opportunity to choose how to build depending on what you use and how you play in game This also means an incredible amount of choices possible.
CORE RUNE: There is only 1 of this type. This is very powerful and indeed it impacts your performance in game. Examples: Landing 5 consecutive skillshots against a champion in a short amount of time will grant you a massive damage increase very very little time | Healing or Shielding an allied champion under 7% of his maximum health will grant him an invulnerability shield for 1 sec | Killing 2 Barons Nashor in the same game will increase your Health/Healing-Shielding/DPS permanently for the rest of the game | Scoring a Pentakill will give you the Master of the Rift buff, wich causes you to have the same of a baron buff but twice as long | etc...
As you can see these Runes have a very potent effect but it is not related to your champion specifically, but more about what you do in game. These also require you to fulfill a condition, this way is more fun to try activate these runes, and also more easy to balance.
4- HOW TO GET RUNES: Very simple, single runes can be Buyed for IP, You can find Runes in Hextech crafting, and you can buy bundles containing 5 runes (4 Primal runes, 1 Chaos rune, and if you are very lucky you get a core rune).
5 - CONCLUSION: As you can see this system is very different from the old one, or form the mastery system. The intention here is to have runes that you can freely choose, withhout feeling forced to pick them, because "they are simply the best". They are also more generalistic and this means more options to everyone.
