[item Concept] [Item Change] Thornmail
Thornmail is one of those items where you rarely build it unless the entire enemy team is AD and you can stack armor or you are Rammus and have great synergy. The passive is its main feature but it isn't really anything decent when by itself (25 magic damage +15% incoming as magic damage).
Idea Part 1:
Create a new lower tier item:
- 1000 gold cost
- +35 armor
- +35 mr
- Unique Passive: Receiving damage of any kind inflicts grievous wounds on the dealer for 5 seconds (refreshing each hit until they are above 40% max health).
- Build Path:
- Cloth Armor + Null-Magic Mantle + 250 gold
Idea Part 2:
Add that item into the build path for thornmail:
- Thornmail Stats:
- 2350 gold cost
- +75 armor
- +45 magic resist
- Unique Passive: Reflect damage (same as it is now except now including both bonus armor and bonus magic resist, at a lower ratio, to get the base damage reflected)
- Unique Passive: Receiving damage of any kind inflicts grievous wounds on the dealer for 5 seconds (refreshing each hit until they are above 40% max health)
- Build Path:
- Chain Vest + "New Item" + 550 gold (the cloth armor was removed from the build path since it is part of the new item).
Reasons why this new item and changes would be beneficial:
- Right now Thornmail seems to be out shined by other armor options like Frozen Heart, Randuin's Omen, Dead Man's Plate, Sunfire Cape, and Zz'Rot Portal.
- None of the build items have a passive, unlike every other armor option besides Dead Man's Plate.
- The build items only give one stat (armor obviously) where others give at least one other (like health or magic resist)
- It has a massive gold cost after the build items are purchased (1250 gold).
- While +100 armor is nice, it is the only stat that the full item gives, unlike others who usually have some health or magic resist.
- With the amount of sustain that the masteries and items give carries, tanks fall short if they can not counter that since they tend to not run 18-12-0 or 18-0-12 mastery pages and do not build heavy damage lifesteal / spellvamp items.
