Mordius, Conqueror of Worlds
Lore:
“To those who may seek the void, and the secrets held in keep. I bare three messages to whom all must heed. First is a race, demonic in essence. Five in existence, one in your presence. Second is the void, an amalgamation of time. Here exists Runeterra. Past and Future combined. Third is a name of one who dwells deep within -- a fabled city lost to the void, awaiting of the end. Six wings span his back to raise his giant figure. He wields a greatsword in one hand, and summons the void with his finger. He is primordial in origin, and time is of his friend. The cycle will always continue, and he will awaken soon again. He is Mordius, a name devoid in all text. You will not know he is coming, but I assure you. Runeterra is next.” – Poet of Old
Within the annals of Runeterra the origin of the Darkin has remained much of a mystery. Similarly, little is known of the void and its secrets, save for the few who have bared witness to it’s powers. The truth among these two is that the Void was once Runeterra. A now wasteland, the Void was conquered Millenniums ago by a forgotten Darkin, Mordius. This was not a single act, but rather a cycle of acts that have happened for as long as time. Once old Runeterra was conquered, the Gods created a new Runeterra so that humans may continue worshiping them as deities, and Mordius now waits patiently in the ruins of the old world, for his time to come conquer again.
The rift between Runeterra and the Void was first opened during the battle between the Protectorates and the Magelords. In order to secure victory, the Magelords tapped into the void for power to defeat the Protectorates. But to their demise, they also unleashed Aatrox who would go on to help defeat the mages who so carelessly initiated the beginning of the end. Once the barrier between Runeterra and the void was severed, the void has slowly begun to eat away at the world barrier until it is weak enough to invade. Aatrox now watches over the humans, carrying a prophecy that eventually one of them will rise up to defeat Mordius, and stop the cycle.
Mordius is a large Darkin, similar in size relative to Sion than Aatrox, and bears six wings rather than two in order to lift his larger stature. He bears features similar to Aatrox, however the horn-like features on his head are more the shape of a crown which covers his eyes. In-fact, Mordius doesn’t actually see with his eyes in the traditional sense, but rather sees with the void and feels for his enemies. The years in the darkness of the void claimed his eyesight. He wields a massive sword in his right hand known as the Tyrant’s Blade, and uses his Darkin abilities coupled with the void which has allowed for him to survive for so long. His voice is very deep and metallic which often echoes throughout the void when he speaks. He is aware of all beings within the void, and may or may not have given Malzahar his powers. Snippet: It is believed that when the barrier between Runeterra and the Void is broken, Mordius will enter the world in Icathia. It is hinted at that the ruined city he resides in, in the void, is also in fact Icathia.
**Abilities: ** Resource: Health
Passive: Blood Chalice (or Malice Chalice?) Mordius gains +5 Max HP and +0.08 HP Regen for every creep killed. Additionally, If Mordius kills each member of the enemy team he enters Conqueror state which removes the resource cost from his abilities. Dying before reaching Conqueror state resets the counter back to 0.
Q: Void Tap Cost: x% of current, max, or flat HP. Casting Void Tap on a voidling will morph it into a stronger form granting it a damage boost and moderate shield based on Mordius’ max HP. Void Tap can also be cast on himself for a minor shield, or an ally champion for a stronger shield. Shield will not expire except from being damaged. Does not stack. Moderate Cooldown.
W: Tyrant’s Blade Passive: Every 4th basic attack spawns a voidling that will prioritize who Mordius is attacking, or the nearest champion. High voidling cap or no cap at all. Primary source of damage.
Active: Devour a voidling to restore x HP. If the voidling has a shield from Void Tap. Gain that shield. Shield will stack if gained from a voidling. Max shield is equal to half of Mordius’ max HP. Short Cooldown
E: Dark Commandment Mordius taunts an enemy for x seconds. While taunted, Mordius slowly loses x% HP for its duration. If Mordius holds the taunt for the full duration, when it ends he gains a boost to atk speed and life steal for a short duration. If the enemy dies before the duration ends, he gains nothing. This ability is not effected by Conqueror state. Short Cooldown
R: Death’s Chariot Cost: x% of current, max, or flat HP. On activation, Mordius leaps into the air for 10 seconds and can cast this ability a second time to land instantly anywhere on the map, dealing significantly less damage based on how far away he traveled from his previous position. If Mordius doesn’t reactivate this ability after 10 seconds, he lands where he originally casted from, and deals 200% damage. Damage based on max HP. Deals initial damage with a lingering DoT effect that lasts x seconds. Moderate Cooldown. Player’s screens will change tint to signify when Mordius is in the air.
Notes:
The concept behind Mordius is to be primarily a tank. Infact, His R is his only abilitiy that does damage. His main source of damage is his auto attacks and Voidlings, which require him to be in melee range. His kit could potentially work by building him atk speed DPS, however early game this should easily get him killed, so this should only be possible very late game when he can give up an item to switch more into damage, and allow his passive to pick up the HP loss. His taunt should be very short early game to prevent him being able to taunt enemies into his tower, however because the duration is short, he gains the atk speed and life steal buff quicker, which allows for him to still be relevant early game. However the % hp loss still makes him vulnerable to burst champions early on. The conqueror state only effects his Q and R, and by the time he actually attains it, he will have enough health and regen already to where it is irrelevant. It’s more of a quest, but still can help snowball him if he somehow kills each enemy early on. His voidlings are stronger than Malzahar's and they look different. Early game they can help zone the enemy allowing Mordius to farm for his passive, and if enough spawn, they can help deal damage when he is taunting with his E. I purposely gave Mordius no mobility except for his R, which will punish very aggressive players early on if they are not careful. Early game Mordius players should focus on building Health, Armor and MR first 3 items and late game can think about attack speed to spawn more voidlings or stay pure tank with a very ridiculous amount of HP with his shield. The idea behind this is because of his lore. Mordius is patient and focuses of getting to late game where he will conquer his opponent similar to say Nasus or Veigar. Counters to him would be anyone who can prevent him from CSing for too long. If he pushes past river, his no mobility will make him easy to gank. He is primarily a top laner, but his shield allows for him to potentially support. His R is global I know, but keep in mind once he lands, he has no additional mobility, only his taunt. This is primarily how he’ll enter conquerer state, is by ganking with his R. Targeting him when he taunts is a good way to make him back off, and prevent him from getting his atk speed and life steal boost from it. There is definitely room to modify numbers and I intentionally left it that way so if anything ever were to get Riot’s attention, they’d have room of their own to balance it. I know I took the lore side too far and completely re-defined the Void and Runeterra history. I think it’s a cool twist though, so do with it what you will.
