Avowa, The Abyss Strider

Melee Fighter (Diver) / Assassin (Skirmisher)

Ability-focused versatile melee fighter who is at his strongest in the thick of battle, controlling his spacing and dominating his opponents with ease or defending his allies by traversing an alternate shadow plane, as well as conjuring a flexible variety of weapons. As Avowa delves further into combat, he loosens his restraints on his dark power, allowing the runes to cover his body, and grant him more and more capability, at the cost of self-control.

Passive: Inner Temptations

Avowa utilizes two opposing resources, Willpower and Corruption. (These resources are mutually exclusive and always total up to 5. As Willpower is lost, it is replaced with Corruption and vice versa.) Avowa generates 1 Willpower per second if out of combat for at least 8 seconds. If Avowa reaches 5 Corruption, he becomes Corrupted, empowering his damaging abilities, and begins generating 1 Willpower per second. (Even in combat, stacking with out of combat generation) Avowa ceases to be Corrupted when he reaches 5 Willpower.

Q: Blinding Swipe

Cooldown of 10 Seconds, costing 1 Willpower

(Base) Damage: 40/60/80/100/120 + 80/90/100/110/120% of total attack damage

Avowa gouges his opponent with a clawed hand on his next Auto-attack within 4 seconds, dealing physical damage on-hit, and causing his target’s next auto attack to miss. (Debuff lasting 2 seconds if auto is not performed.) (Auto-attack reset.) (Missed attacks behave as if the enemy was Blinded for that one attack.) (Can crit.) (Does not proc on towers.) (Applies on-hit effects as normal.)

Corrupted bonus: Blinding Swipe instead blinds the enemy for 2 seconds.

W: Rift Dive

Cooldown of 14/13/12/11/10 seconds, costing 2 Corruption

Avowa conjures a blade and cuts into the Shadowrift, swiftly rolling a short distance (400 units) in a target direction. (During the roll, Avowa is untargetable.) If Avowa rolls through an enemy champion, Avowa gains a decaying burst of movement speed (10/15/20/25/30%) over 2 seconds. (Speed buff does not stack from passing through multiple champions.) (Can cross over walls)

E: Umbral Arsenal

Avowa conjures weapons out of his dark power to assault his enemies. With each cast of Umbral Arsenal, Avowa readies the next weapon in the set rotation of Umbral Axe, Umbral Lance, and finally Umbral Flail. (Then back to Umbral Axe.) (The next ability can be cast after the cooldown.) The rotation, and the weapon that will be available next would be displayed near Avowa’s healthbar. (With a helpful widget.)

Cooldown of 8/7/6/5/4 seconds, each costing 1 Willpower

**Umbral Axe: **

Damage: 60/80/100/120/140 + 60% of bonus attack damage

Avowa conjures a large axe and cleaves in a wide arc in targeted direction, physically damaging all enemies hit. (400 Units range, 90 degree arc) Corrupted bonus: Avowa heals for 10/15/20/25/30% of total damage dealt

Umbral Lance:

80/110/130/150/180 + 20% of bonus attack damage

Avowa conjures a spear and thrusts powerfully in targeted direction, physically damaging and knocking back all enemies hit to the maximum range (400 units). Corrupted bonus: Slows enemies hit by 50% for 2 seconds.

Umbral Flail:

Damage: 80/100/120/140/160 + 40% of bonus attack damage

Avowa conjures a flail and quickly winds up a toss, throwing the ball and chain forward after a brief delay physically damaging all enemies in a line. Umbral Flail stops at and stuns the first enemy champion hit for 1 second. (800 Unit Range.) Corrupted bonus: Umbral Flail deals 20% increased damage for each (stack of) Corruption Avowa has. (Counting the Corruption gained from casting Umbral Flail.)

R: Banish the Light (Hostile Intent)

Cooldown of 120/100/80 seconds, Costing 2 Willpower

Hostile Intent (Passive:) When Avowa becomes Corrupted, he gains decaying movement speed equal to what he would gain from (the current rank of) Rift Dive (over 2 seconds).

Banish the Light: Avowa howls and unleashes his full power, creating a circle of his domain (500/550/600)-unit radius, centered on his current location) in which all units inside are within the Shadowrift (untargetable to units outside the circle and vice versa) for 3/4/5 seconds. While in the circle, enemy champions are also slowed by 30%. Avowa then conjures an extended arsenal of umbral weaponry around him with his dark power, and begins rapidly striking enemy champions, (one at a time) within the circle with a different weapon each time. (Strikes every .5 seconds. Cannot hit the same target consecutively, unless there is only one target available.) Each strike deals physical damage equal to Avowa’s total attack damage, ignoring 50% of the enemy’s bonus armor. (Avowa is completely untargetable while performing his strikes, and persists until the circle expires.) (Can only be cast if an enemy would be within the area of effect.) (Entire ability is cancelled if (or when) the last valid target leaves the circle.)

Corrupted bonus: Struck enemies bleed, taking 10% of their maximum health as true damage over 3 seconds. (Stacks with subsequent strikes.)

Lore:

Avowa was born in the cold wastes of the Freljord, north of the mountain ranges that separate it from the rest of Runeterra, with his tribal race of intelligent wolf-kin, the Fenrossan. His childhood was harsh upon the icy tundra, weathering vicious storms and learning to hunt under the tutelage of his mother, the descendant of a sheildmaiden to Avarosa during the Iceborn rebellion against the Watchers centuries ago. He learned combat and warfare from his father, the greatest warrior and chieftain of his tribe. Avowa was a clever youth, and relished in hearing tales of ancient Freljord, and the world beyond from the tribe’s elders. With a coat of fur white as winter, and emerald eyes that seemed to glow with the life and vigor of fresh spring, he was a stoic image of his tribe’s future.

Until one day, when Avowa was the age of fifteen, when the sky grew black, and a withering storm of ice and wind settled over the tribe. Riders and a horde of trolls came forth from the west, down from the mountain passes. Frostguard banners advanced abreast of mighty colossi of ice, who lumbered with a twisted sentience and the power of an avalanche with every step. Led by Lissandra, the now revealed ice witch and her army advanced upon the Fenrossan tribal grounds. Avowa’s father gathered the tribe’s militia and rallied forth to confront Lissandra and her horde. Avowa’s mother gave him her most precious heirloom, an amulet affixed with a shard of true ice, passed down her line from the day her ancestor stopped a fatal blow to Avarosa, during the battle on the bridge of the Howling Abyss. “Run” was her only word for him, gripping his shoulders and looking into his eyes with despair and love as tears streamed down her face. Avowa, his legs and heart as cold and heavy as ice, followed her final command, and ran eastward until he could no longer, clutching the true ice shard tightly.

Avowa, having fled his homeland in terror at such an early age, traveled through to the nearest lands of the east before ending up in Ionia, where he roamed aimlessly, devastated for many years. He grew on the road, meeting many of the Ionian people and learned much from their hardships and strife. With travel and experience tempering his body and sharpening his regret, he witnessed the invasion of Ionia by Noxus, noting how violence had seemed to spread beyond even his home. He desired to fight, to use his parents teachings to set the world right, but as he observed the great strength and magical talents of both the Noxian army and the Ionian resistance, he felt weak. He needed more than skill to make a notable change on any battlefield. He felt so powerless, unable to fight for his ideals or the Ionian people in any tide-changing way. His despair seemed to be answered upon finding a desolate temple hidden in the Ionian countryside, among a thick forest, and near the ruins of a destroyed village. Within he found a cursed ebony blade, and his mind was tickled with dark temptations and whispers of power. These whispers fell heavy upon his desperate psyche. He raised his torch held in his right hand, causing the blade to glint in a malevolent light. He reached out and gripped the handle of the blade, where he collapsed howling in agony, his fingers forced tight around this abyssal artifact. Searing, glowing lines crawled up his arm, and the whispers in his mind grew excited, causing a cacophony in his ears. He screamed again as the lines reached his shoulder, before a blinding light washed away all the noise and pain.

When he awoke, the branded lines persisted, branding the fur of his arm with twisting inky black tendrils, creeping up to his shoulder, with his amulet of true ice glowing faintly, seemingly holding back the twisting corruption. The whispers persisted, but could easily be ignored, for now. Avowa tentatively picked up the short blade again, but now the folded metal of the blade no longer resonated with the same evil intent. Avowa firmly gripped the hilt, feeling the rigid, black leather binding, and found it fitting for his use. In spite of the curse it had seemed to brand him with, he could not deny its elegant design.

Avowa continued his wandering, leaving the now empty temple with a feeling of relief, and not wishing to linger. After several days of traveling, clutching his arm as worry wormed into his heart, he came upon smoke over the trees on the side of the road. Rushing through the forest he came upon a burning field of crops, strewn with burning and butchered corpses. Over the din of cries and screams he knelt down and picked up the small, bleeding body of a small child from the dirt. It was cold and limp in his arms. His mind raced with fear, images of his past flashing before him as he gently set the child on the ground. His left arm tingled, and a steadying haze set over his mind, driving him to run through the burning field toward the flaming village, determined to make whatever did this to suffer the same fate as the child. He would set things right. In minutes, he crossed the field and saw the chaos, as a Noxian company was slaughtering the broken village militia. He had no words for this atrocity, this display of butchery and evil. He drew his blade, its black edge flashing in light of the flames around him.

Avowa decimated the entire Noxian company by letting his instincts take over, phasing in and out of a shadowy realm before any blade or arrow could touch him, and conjuring great weapons of writhing blackness in his left hand, breaking through rank and file with a confidence that was spurred on by the euphoria of power and the ease of dispatching foe after foe. The survivors of the village, though wary of this stranger’s dark abilities, were grateful for their village’s salvation. Avowa stood upon the corpse of the giant man that was the Noxian company commander, his eyes shining, his blade dripping with blood, and a grin upon his face. At last, Avowa possessed the power to change this world, in spite of this fog of malevolence gathering around his mind, but he would not succumb. It was a burden he would bear to make the world right in his eyes. Starting with this land, and then his home.

“Without this power, I would only be a spectator to this world’s ultimate fate. Now, I can make the difference for the better.” -Avowa, to the Ionian village survivors, shortly after dispatching the commander of the Noxians 4th Special Operations Assault Company.

Rough and unedited Personal Design Notes

Avowa started as a boredom with the top lane that I used to love. Not to say that there are not fun champions to play, but even though Fiora (with her rework) came close there was no champion I could point to and say that that champion was mine, mine to love completely, or to master. I have favorites in each role, like Fiora for toplane, Yasuo for midlane, Lucian and Jhin for ADC… Yet none I could consider perfect for me. Not to say that these champions don’t have well-designed kits like Yasuo or well-designed character such as Jhin, just that none of these champions (for me anyway) come together as a complete package for me. Maybe it’s just because Riot releases a champion, with no player input and expects people to like whatever they put out. Again, not to say that Riot’s champion creation team is lacking, and provides unique and interesting champions again and again. However, I decided that a solution to the empty feeling I get with each champion releasing would simply be to design my own. Avowa’s design process has been exciting and stimulating all the way through, with over 7 editions of his skillset, an art commission process, hours upon hours of free time spent in brainstorming and reflection, (not to mention studying Riots design journals to get potential insights,) it would be very hard for me not to consider his design a passion project. Of course, it could not be a full package. I can’t 3D model, nor could I create ability icons or cinematics, but I would jump to any of those options if I could. Whether or not his design gets popular, (or any attention, really) he would still be a creation I would love, as it is purely my own, and I feel has enough unique elements (such as his race as well as the uniqueness of his E) that I could see him filling league’s roster. (Despite the ultimate unlikelihood that that will never happen. I won’t be coy, I don’t really expect the world out it.) What did Avowa start as? Really, just an idea. I play Warframe off and on, and liked the concept of one of the frames from that game, (Limbo) whose main mechanic revolved around being in and banishing allies and enemies to an alternate plane. (While I don’t particularly enjoy Limbo, this mechanic not having an equivalent in league gave me an angle of approach, and an idea.) Converting the science fiction to fantasy, Shadows and dark magic was the closest equivalent. While it is true that the manipulation of shadow is not particularly unique, overlapping mediums of power exist in league. (Such as Anivia and Lissandra for ice, Annie and Brand for fire, Varus and Ashe for Bows, Jhin and Caitlyn as Snipers, Nautilus and Nami for water, etc etc) and I feel as though the delivery and what they do with that medium is what allows for a champion to be unique, such as Annie having Tibbers while Brand has…. (More fire? I guess?) (Yasuo using wind to expose his foes as he sets himself for masterful sword strokes, while Janna throws twisters of wind to protect her allies and hampering oncoming opponents.) That being said, a weaponmaster, as well as weapon conjuror do not exist in league, and is a unique enough archetype that the overlapping medium of Shadows can be overlooked. With these two elements of his kit, the ability of controlling the Shadowrift and temporarily traveling between the two planes, and weapon conjuring, we could focus more on who he would be. When it came to origins/backstory, I came to a favorite. I like Ionian champions, as well as Freljordian champions, so I had decided to merge the two. As for his race, being a unique character and no one to really tell me no, I went with a Lupine race because I thought it was unique and cool. (I don’t really count Warwick, since his rework he is more chimeric and always personified bestial bloodlust and rage, which was not what I wanted for my champion.) The setting that most worked for this was the Freljord. It already has an established animal-like race of the Ursine, so it is pretty believable that other animal races or tribes could have also existed. (May as well go all out if you’re making your own thing, right? As long as it sits well in the established lore, good enough for me.) (I did find out after the fact that the first part of his lore is very similar to Udyr’s. There are differences, but major points are pretty much the same. Who even knows Udyr’s lore? I decided to reference this in quotes, and attempted to create a dynamic of where they had similar backgrounds, but ultimately made different choices that led to them to being adversaries.) After writing the first paragraph of the lore and getting his origins in place, I wrote the rest of the story off the top of my head in one sitting. (Minus an editing pass by a colleague of mine, and additions after the fact throughout.) And I must say in reflection, I didn’t do half bad. Disparity naturally became a theme, with white fur and good intentions but with a darker and more complicated mental state, not to mention his powers themselves. Inadvertently, ideas and questions and character intrigue arose, such as the reason or source of power in his amulet, or whether the dark whispers he hears are an evil invading force or is really just something deep within himself. Avowa opposes Kindred in that while he represents both good and bad, light and dark, these opposing forces reject each other within his entire character, instead of merging in disparate harmony. This leads to how he had a good, noble teaching growing up, but fostered negative feelings such as vengeance for his parents and people, along with regret of not dying with them that day. He was to his knowledge the last of his kind, and his people are doomed no matter what. With that, he wishes he could have died with them instead of being into a world he now saw as cruel and unyielding due to the Noxian invasion. On top of this, he had an inferiority complex, not believing he was strong or good enough to live up to his noble ideals and help defend the Ionian people, or get vengeance on Lissandra. The curse he was afflicted with feeds on these emotions, and brings these to the forefront in order for him to draw its power, forcing him to lose control, which he desperately wants, because he does not want to become what he strives to defeat using it. With story considerations, out of the way, visual design. Seeing as he was drawn to commission, I did have a fair amount of control in how he turned out. (Some artistic freedom was given, with some guidance and examples throughout the process.) I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out, however it is just a single pass-over when it comes to visual design. More refinement is probably what we would expect out of Riot’s development process, and I won’t deny its potential need here in this case. Coming up with a way to combine Nordic/Celtic Freljordian themes and Oriental Ionian themes I must say was a bit difficult, and I may have not gone far enough in some places. The braid of his hair helps with a Nordic Theme, while the Sword itself, the Samurai-inspired shoulderguards, and the rest of his garb lend to his current situation of living and wandering in Ionia. The lines on his arm were well done in that they lend to a graceful sort of malevolence that inhabits his arm and channels his powers. Moving around to kit design, frankly in the beginning it was a mess. Interesting, but impossible to balance either in terms of game health or resource economy. Originally his resource was only Willpower, which when he ran out he would become corrupted to empower him, so that part of his kit was always there, however before it simply behaved like Rumble’s heat mechanic except reverse. I knew that if I was going to come up with a new resource, it would have to have its own unique angle. Taking apart a few flawed previous kits gave me the idea of directly opposing resources, and that idea has stuck due to its uniqueness and how damn well it fits the character. The hardest part of defining Avowa’s kit was deciding whether he should be an Assassin, Diver, or Initiator, as I could have gone any route. (It came down to my preference to fighters due to their adaptability.) Honestly the part of the design that I’m most shaky on and have changed multiple times is Avowa’s subtitle. Hard not to make one that is too obvious, or cliché, or not fitting enough. Willing to take suggestions. Current one is relatively fitting I’d say, Umbral is an easy one to see why, and I use the word Omen because an Omen can be good or bad, and it is again unclear whether Avowa will end up succumbing to his curse, or overcoming it, so I think it works out alright. Rolls off the tongue well at least. At the end of the day however, I love this champion idea that I brought out of the shadows, pulling inspiration from my passions as a gamer, desires of power in fantasy, to the very issues that I live through, and struggle through, just like Avowa. I made this champion concept reaching for the stars, because to design and tweak for nothing less than the ultimate goal of integration into the game I have played and loved (and sometimes hated) for years. As a parent desires for the best for their children, same is my desire to have Avowa, my creation, succeed not only on community reception, but also in turning Riots gaze towards the product of my dedication. This is my true love-letter to League of Legends and Riot. Of course, I don’t beg and plead for adaptation into the game. League is their creation, as Avowa is mine. It is easy to see the passion for their game, as I hope it is easy to see the passion I have for Avowa in his design.

Glad this post caught my eye. I'll see if I can't give a proper critique.

Lore and Thematic

Personally I enjoy the theme that you created here. A good man with some sort of barely controlled power that could easily be abused but the character works past that temptation to work for the betterment of himself and others. It happens to be why I have a minor obsession with werewolves. (Hence name, hence main)

I also very much enjoyed reading the lore you wrote, though I had some difficulty during my reading, losing track of my place in the wall of text, but it's nothing that can't be solved with formatting. The Lore had some intriguing implications that I saw; Is the temple that Avowa discovered his weapon at related to the temple that Varus once guarded? IS IT the temple that Varus guarded? Does that mean that Avowa's Blade and Varus's Bow are related? Are either related to the Darkin, or is there another malevolent power lurking around Runeterra?

Regarding the example quotes, they are a bit of a mess, not very organised. Most I find to deliver on his state and worldview quite well, but some, The two for Volibear come to mind, would get run over during a game because they are too long. Some suggestions off the top of my head; "Another senseless war Volibear?" exasperated "You've chosen the wrong side. Again..." threatening

Kit and Balance

Regarding his passive; It is extremely thematic to say that Avowa has two opposing resources, but in reality he has only one resource Willpower, because that's the only thing his Abilities interact with. If you want to keep the two resource system, I think you should change or create new abilities that interact with his Corruption, like costing a certain amount of Corruption, or maybe having damage that scales with Avowa's Corruption. Otherwise Avowa's Willpower mechanic is just a reverse Rumble Heat system, which in my opinion, is okay!

Q- A nice basic ability that, in my opinion, is a lot more fair than a 1.5 to 2.5 second blind, at range, on a 8 to 4.4 second cooldown. summoner 14 Teemo summoner 14 With this abilities blind having a MAXIMUM of 36% uptime, I don't think I can realistically say I have a problem here. To get a True blind you have to play skillfully to apply Corrupted Instincts otherwise its still a skillful trading tool similar to Pantheon's Aegis Protection. [WARNING HEAVY OPINIONS HERE] it is my opinion that among abilities in League, the word Strike is overused. Garen has Decisive Strike, Fizz Urchin Strike, Jax has Leap Strike AND Counterstrike, Nasus Siphoning Strike, Rengar Bola Strike. I think that more creative name would be nice, to steal a quote from Quinn "Go for the Eyes!"

W- I was gonna suggest that this ability be changed, but after some more reading I'm gonna give it a pass. With an 18 second to 5.5 second cooldown for it to feel fair the duration will have to be SHORT. Fizz's Playful/Trickster has the same cooldown and has a maximum duration of .75 seconds, and we all know how fun that ability is to play against. Otherwise I think that the speed boost is fair for proper positioning and use of the ability, and that it requiring Corruption instead of Willpower is an excellent source of counterplay making Avowa weak during his roams where his Willpower resets.

E- As much as I love the concept of a rotating set of abilities in one slot, I think this ability will probably have to be changed. Having three different abilities on one slot would be a nightmare for the tooltip, players trying to play against Avowa, new players picking up Avowa, and his overall game balance. This ability is, one of those buzzwords I don't like to use, overloaded, it is literally doing three things at once. I think that with the current ability Avowa would become a new Azir, EXTREMELY POWERFUL in the hands of a high level player, but near impossible for a Low ELO player to grasp. I personally think that Umbral Lance is a powerful enough ability to stand alone in this slot. A small increase in its damage numbers and the possibility of it benefiting from Lifesteal would make it a good ability to give purpose to an Avowa playing from behind.

R- I'm not sure how to feel with this ability. Banish the Light Awesome, seems like getting a huge ulti would be a massive highlight during an Avowa Player's game. Embrace of the Dark is, markedly less awesome... Having what equates to an Locket or a Karma RW for your ulti seems pretty good, for a support. Of the 66 fighter champions that I found on the Wiki the number that directly gave health or an equivalent to their team was 3. Fiora, Kayle, and Taric. With Fiora's and Taric's being on a delay and Kayle's being single target. Another side note is that the size of either cast is equal to a Level 1 Sweeping Lens. My opinion has landed on that this ability doesn't feel completely "right", but I can't quite nail down what i would recommend to make that better.

Closing thoughts

Overall I very much enjoyed Avowa. Some changes and I think that he would be an interesting addition to League. I rate about 8.5/10 not the most perfect or detailed creation I've found, but I would play him if I could.

the E is pretty wildly overloaded and the passive and ult are needlessly overcomplicated

1.3 Changelog: More Streamlining

Biggest change: Corrupted Instincts was removed in favor of just empowering his abilities while in the Corrupted state. This eliminates clunkiness as he no longer needs to apply a mark before benefiting at all from his empowered state, and theoretically should clean up visuals with enemies no longer needing to be marked visually.

Umbral Axe's Corrupted bonus was changed to a heal based on damage dealt. (Heal is mitigated by Avowa's building defensively, as well as his opponent.)

Umbral Lance lost the cripple effect from its Corrupted bonus. (Was an extraneous power in the kit)

Umbral Flail's Corrupted bonus was changed to scaling increased damage based on Corruption Avowa has at the time. (Response to critique that the passive should have more interaction with the rest of its kit.)

Banish the Light lost its targeting priority when Avowa is Corrupted. (For obvious reasons.)

First round of post... posting changes are as follows (due to immediate feedback):

  1. Resource was restructured to be functionally identical, but be less numerically reliant and being overall less wordy. Use of the word stacks is temporary at this point, still trying to think of something that would be more thematically fitting. (Such as Seals of Will and Runes of Corruption, but that might require some lore changes so due to further feedback will decide on what i commit to.)

  2. Umbral Arsenal, (E) was critiqued as being overloaded, however personally i do not feel as though this is the case, since Avowa has no direct control over what ability is available to him at any time, due to the rotation that he must strictly follow, and none of the mechanics introduced in any of the casts are unseen on Fighters, such as a stun, Cripple (Fiora Riposte, anyone?) or damage. It is his main source of damage and overall usefulness. However, the health sustain was an unneccesary gimmick for a mana-less champion, and was scrapped in favor of frontloading damage into one cast to make it more pivotal in his DPS curve. Overall, Umbral Axe and Umbral Maul were streamlined to be easier to understand, and to explain.

  3. Embrace of the Dark is no longer with us. Dualistic ultimates was a strong idea, but it diluted his role as a diver for the sake of utility when his resource is somewhat poorly managed and Avowa would not be in his ideal state when he needs to be. Passive was hesitantly introduced to reinforce the offensive nature of this ability, and can make Avowa's Corruption amidst a teamfight to be more impactful for his intended role as a Diver/Backline Disruptor. Criteria for Banish the light was added requiring Avowa to be Corrupted in order to cast, addressing critiques of lower interaction in the ulty. Katarina was used as an example for the level of interaction (you can CC her or kill her or leave the area when she ults) while with Avowa you can only leave. The difference now is that Avowa's ult is more contextual, and more foreseeable, allowing counterplay by observing when Avowa will go in. (Seeing that he was intentionally designed to have mid-tier gap-closing capabilities.

1.2 Update

Removed movement speed burst on Rift Dive for dodging immobilizing effects. Meant to reward Avowa's that hold onto Rift Dive for a defensive ability that allows them to close the distance with the enemy. Proved to be unneccesary, as dodging an immobilizing effect entirely in itself is enough of an advantage, as many champions are reliant on one case of hard CC to survive aggression (ie. Lux, Morgana, Velkoz)

Slight nerf to Rift Dive's bonus movement speed burst, given its new reliability in other areas of Avowa's kit.

Replaced Umbral Maul with Umbral Flail, removing the necessity of hard-wording in rewards for Avowa's to maintain spacing. (Umbral Axe also lost its spacing bonus!) By allowing him to be very proficent in kiting will naturally allow him to excel in those situations, making these additions redundant and extraneous. Also, Umbral Flail fills a different niche of abilities in being a projectile, with a similar sorts of wind-up to Thresh's Death Sentence, to prevent it to being an overly powerful laning tool.
