FROZEN WATCHERS, they're coming back [ Champion Concept] (Intro Story)
Ghost shopkeeper:
“Do you know the story of the howling abyss? Who made it, what is it for and why is it named the ‘howling’ abyss? Many years ago it was home to powerful creatures who offered the give of ice to the humans of the Freljord in return, gaining they eternal loyalty. They named them iceborns. However one such Iceborn saw this as enslavement, gathering a hoard of her followers to overthrow the Powerful beings, the Frozen Watchers. They threw them howling into the abyss, littering the trench with their screams. The sounds the winds brought up from the abyss, of howls and crackling ice, as if the watchers were trying to ascend from their frozen grave, gave this area its name.
Strangely however the air has been still. The abyss as silent as the supposed dead watchers. No howls, now falling ice, nothing. Maybe they finally surrendered to their graves.
Lissandra seemed awfully silent aswell. She hasn’t uttered a word today, as if she was part of the suspense waiting to be unfolded.
The air seems to be even colder than usual, but what do I know I’m just a ghost. There is a freak storm coming up ahead however, it’s quite strange I’ve never seen anything like it. You should head indoors. There’s a small village not too far from here.”
That night the monstrous storm engulfed the Freljord in its massive range. The winds felt like fists of air bulldozing anything in its path. The air was extremely chilling, every breath felt like inhaling ice. I could hair the storm dismantling the surroundings outside, even rocks flying mid-air. As abrupt as it started it ended, the air once more still and dead.
The horrors awaited outside. The village stood no chance against the storm. Many houses were demolished, swallowed in snow and ice. Massive boulders and chunks of ice littered the floor. Surprising how a storm could lift such masses. One thing stood out however, the one things that would have surely stopped your heart. Monstrous footprints leading south, in the direction of the departed storm. What creature would be wondering around in this weather? Whatever it is, it’s size must have been unimaginable. One woman was the most traumatized. Uttering under her breath “I saw it…I saw something, I saw it!” As thoughts being to my mind, I heard a deafening howl in the direction of the dark storm mass, a howl that sounded instinctively familiar. The sounds of the abyss.
