Prestige Skins (Constructive Criticism Post for Devs)
First off, I want to acknowledge that the Prestige skins are cool; it's an interesting concept, but I don't think it's being done right. When Prestige K/DA
's details were being given (I believe) we were told that the idea of Prestige skins was that they were an exclusive sort of status to have, something more than a chroma but with an accomplishment attached to it, or something to that effect. It's my opinion that they're now being used as cash grabs.
Prestige K/DA
was, to me, a well done way to handle things, and in my opinion, how they should be handled--in conception. Riot took feedback and reception on the K/DA
and realized it was exceptionally popular. This is how they should decide on Prestige skins in the future, in my opinion, rather than simply choosing one from an upcoming batch at random or based on the champ's popularity in that batch: wait and see how people actually feel about it. Prestige Blood Moon
and Prestige Firecracker
seem like straw grasps (especially Firecracker, because that's just... an odd skin choice period, not the fact that it's
.What I'm saying is, you're looking far too eager with this.
Next is the issue of how to get these skins. Again, so far as my (incredibly fallible) memory goes, these skins were supposed to be a statement of status and accomplishment, not simply something we the players have to buy. Of course, Riot is a corporation, and money is always a goal, but as of now, the two current Prestige skins are only exclusive so far as your willingness to purchase an event pass to eventually accumulate the tokens need to unlock them; the only accomplishment a player is really achieving is the various small missions that aren't difficult so much as time-consuming.
In the end, my opinion probably isn't worth a lot, but I'd just like these Prestige skins to be a fair opportunity for a variety of players to get an exclusive skin via means that really impact them. I note the emphasis on the spread of players getting them because two of the four skins available or upcoming are for ADCs, one assassin, and one fighter. Tanks and Supports (God bless supports, considering they rarely get non-seasonal legendaries, let alone something like this) are yet to be acknowledged, though this is common. Give feedback if necessary--I may sound whiny, I was just looking at the Twitter comments to Prestige Firecracker
, and thought I'd give my two cents.
