A New Type of Skin for League of Legends
So I was reading over the concept and creation stuff on the new Gangplank, and after thinking about the whole internal debate over hat vs no hat GP, an idea hit me that I think would be pretty cool for any given champion if the game could support it.
Since it was the Gangplank design discussion that inspired this idea Ill use that simply for the sake of example, though I'm by no means suggesting this specific example should be used; its just to get the idea across!
What if a skin were designed to be customized by the player by checking a series of boxes similar to the chroma packs, but in THIS instance the check boxes would be CHOOSING specific features you wanted from the skin. Example: Having a stock Gangplank skin model as the base and the check boxes would allow you to add say:
1: No hat 2. Peg leg 3. Prosthetic arm 4. Parrot
Within this one ultimate skin design the players could make many combinations based on preference. Honestly it could be anything really from simple to more complicated things depending on the champion idea/design/kit and time constraints for the design team. This would allow people an unparalleled amount of customization and many possible combinations that may all fit the theme of ONE skin concept but aren't different enough to warrant another skin entirely (meaning I'm not suggesting 'hey give us 3 or 4 skins in one for a bargain!').
Of course this would be a lot of work and would probably be a very limited type of skin if it were even possible, but creating a framework for something like this would give designers a means to include more of their really awesome creative ideas for those few times when it becomes really hard to choose one of two or three options for a given design feature to go into the final product.
