My Version of a better League Ranking System

This takes into account the ELO system, the current system and the upcoming 2019 system to become my ideal version.

Every player starts with 1000 points for every season.

Example 1 - first match: When you win a match playing top lane you are awarded 5 points for every role and an additional 3 points for that particular role. Top: 1008, Mid: 1005, Jungle: 1005, Bottom: 1005, Support: 1005

Example 2 - first match: When you lose a match playing top lane you lose 5 points for every role and an additional 3 points for that particular role. Top: 992, Mid: 995, Jungle: 995, Bottom: 995, Support: 995

This results in every role being affected by every game which therefore gives value to every game for any player. But it does focus in on the effectiveness of a particular role for additional gains or losses.

Winning Streak starts upon winning your third game in a row. Gain an additional +3 for every role plus another +9 for your particular role until you lose.

Losing Streak starts upon losing your third game in a row. Lose an additional -3 points for every role until you win.

Winning and Losing streaks are different values to allow a general upward progression in a role despite hardships. This allows you to place higher than someone who says something like " I've not even played a game this season but am higher than you are haha!!" if you have a reasonable winrate.

This would allow you to achieve your player skill goals per role, per queue with the 2019 ranked system without severely discouraging players who want to purposely play other roles. The solution of autofilling giving bonuses to another role would not be effective for players who purposely choose different roles. The system I propose however balances the two in better harmony.

The reason for every player starting at a 1000 is to help ensure players do not remain stuck and other players do not remain promoted by extremely safe picks. Everyone earns it. I think there is a hidden value to this that promotes a healthy system.

I dislike labels. Gold, Platinum, etc.

But you could definitely set them on top of this system if desired.

Open to thoughts!

Thanks for reading!!

Personally speaking, I'm for Riot's new elo-system; I'm a pretty good Kat one-trick, and can mid-lane decently on other champs, but if you ask me to say... Jungle, I wouldn't expect to win a ranked game outside of bronze. This leads me to think that having strict elo separation between roles is probably a good thing, or at the very least there needs to be an extremely steep separation between the roles but I would prefer strict separation. I find it unlikely someone would purposely queue for the wrong role to 'boost' that role's elo; for one, if they have to do that then they're probably already a very low elo player who feels hardstuck, and for another... even if it's ranked: this is a game, you play it to have fun, if you want to have the most fun, then probably you queue for the role you most enjoy. That will not be 100% true (I queue up for other stuff sometimes when I'm bored, or with friends who can't play a different role, it it comes my time to support :P), but I'd be surprised if it weren't true in general.

Believe it or not Riot actually has done a full-elo season reset in the past, I remember how stressful placements were; I got lucky, my main at the time (Kayle) was extremely busted and I was getting some 'formerly' very high elo adcs on my teams who would single-handedly carry the games due to my ultimate. As a result I was placed into gold III, having finished the previous season around Silver II/bottom Silver I (at the time the silver/gold gap was pretty huge, due to the lack of elo decay ---- it was very frustrating to climb). Meanwhile a lot of Pros got placed in low Silver, since teams ended up VERY unbalanced and not everyone was so lucky. I was playing against a lot of really good people, and was very stressed because I could barely keep up. Then they nerfed Kayle :P; I concluded I'd gotten as good at the game as I would, and uninstalled before coming back several years later. From this experience, I think the current partial-reset system is much better and fairer for players as compared to a full reset since it keeps some of the elo striation and therefore leads to better queues, and still alleviates some of the grind of climbing.
