[Champion Concept] Marizon, The Roaming Artist
Hello everybody, it has been a long time since my last Champion Concept, but I decided it would be kind of fun to do one now. This is not a super original concept idea, I understand this, but it doesn't really matter to me (there ain't nothing wrong with not being super original imo). As usual if you like my Concept please Upvote and check out my other champion concepts here: The Special Champion Concepts List. If you disliked my Concept, please leave a comment below telling me what you disliked and how I might fix it. Please understand though that numbers are very hard to balance so please try to focus more on the champion and his abilities, how they flow, and how they fit thematically. Thank you to those who take the time to read and i hope you enjoy my concept :).
Ok now on to the Summary of Marizon, the Roaming Artist! Marizon is mage intended to be played in the Mid or Top lane. He can be played in two different ways, Sustain Damage or Burst Damage. This is dictated by his Passive which allows you to buy two different upgrades, you can mix and match or max out one of the upgrades. The Inkpot upgrades give you more Ink and CDR which allows you to cast more abilities more frequently but since his abilities deal less damage than the average mage (or at least they are intended to) this leads to a more poke sustain damage. The Brush upgrades give you more Ap and Magic Pen allowing you to deal far more damage but you won't have as much Ink so you can't cast too many spells, thus the Burst aspect.
These upgrades can also effect your build paths as different items support his different playstyles. Perhaps a more tanky build to fit his Inkpot upgrades? or maybe you want to try and mix the two by building items that cover the weaknesses of one type or the other? This versatility is what makes Marizon viable in this meta where a champion needs to be able to adapt to any situation in order to be viable.
Marizon is unique in that he uses a non-regen resource, he uses Ink from his inkpot for his Abilities. There are ways to regain Ink, but for the most part you will need to return to the store in order to refill your Inkpot. This means you need to be very careful in how you use his abilities or be very good with the built in regain mechanics. This is what will separate the good Marizon's from the bad, Ink management.
Lore
Marizon was born in Demacia to a somewhat prominent family. Just like everyone else he was brought up to believe the Demacian's were True and Just but unlike the other kids, he was never all that fond of the idea of Justice and war. He found the Demacian ideals to be hypocritical and lacking of true beauty. He loved to draw and paint what he saw, to him the most beautiful things were those that lasted not but a moment, captured for all eternity in his illustrations.
So at a young age, he abandoned his school and home to wander the world in search of such moments. As he traveled he learned of a land called Ionia, a land that respected art of all kinds. So he ventured to this fabled land in hopes of finally being accepted, however upon arrival he was met with nothing but destruction. He recognized this devastation from the books he read in class, this was the work of savage Noxians.
Wandering aimlessly through ruin after ruin, Marizon almost gave up all hope of ever achieving what he desired. It was then that he saw the most beautiful moment in his entire life, he saw a woman engulfed in green, almost completely translucent, fire. It was surrounded her, pouring out from within, and she moved with it almost as if in a dance. He couldn't help but sit down and start to draw, she moved far too quick for him to paint a full picture and each moment was even more beautiful than the last, so instead he did rough sketches of her dance.
He was lost in his sketches, when Karma looked over and saw him vigorously scribbling away. She immediately went into an aggressive stance ready to attack the unknown intruder, however she refrained when she saw him look up with nothing but admiration in his eyes before he went back to his scribbling. After a time, he stopped, stood up, and began walking towards her. At this point it was very apparent to Karma that he was an artist and no threat to her. Without a word Marizon laid his sketches out for her and begged her to teach him about the Spirit Fire.
Karma was amazed at what she was seeing, the sketches looked like her for sure, but there was more to them. The sketches seemed to capture her very essence, even capturing the true beauty behind her Spirit's Fire. This was all she needed to confirm that her and Marizon were destined to meet and so without hesitation agreed to teach him how to harness his own form of Spirit Energy.
Years went by before Marizon mastered his ability and with great sorrow, he left Ionia, for he needed to see all the beauty this world held and Karma had her own goals. Before he left however Karma asked him to one day return and show her all the things he had seen, and in return she would hopefully show him Ionia as it once was. Now he travels from land to land, capturing moments of beauty that only he can see, and using his new found abilities to help those in need. He hopes to one day return and show Karma what he has seen and see what was once the most beautiful of lands.

Abilities
Passive - Life of an Artist
-
Inkpot: Marizon uses Ink as a resource for his abilities. Once his Ink is depleted he must go back to the shop to refill.
-
An Artist Can Always Improve: *Marizon gains a stack of Artistic Experience for every enemy he kills that is coated with his Ink. He gains 1 Stack per minion, 3 Stacks per cannon minion, *7 Stacks for Super Minions and Neutral Monsters, and 10 Stacks per enemy champion and Epic Monster.
-
At 50 Stacks Marizon can purchase an upgrade for either his Inkpot or his Brush, this cost will increase by 15 Stacks for each upgrade. Inkpot upgrades give him 25 bonus Ink and 2.5% bonus Cool Down Reduction (this goes above the maximum Cool Down Reduction limit), Brush upgrades give him 5% bonus AP and 5 Magic Penetration. (Can only purchase 5 total upgrades)
The idea here is you need to choose whether you want to build Burst or Sustained damage. If you invest in Inkpot upgrades your abilities will not deal as much damage, but you will be able to cast more of them before having to return to the shop. If you invest in Brush upgrades, your abilities will deal more damage but you won't be able to cast as many of them. These upgrades will also tie into other abilities, but we will get into those later on.
Q - Brush Stroke
Ink Cost: 25
Cool Down: 12/10.5/9/7.5/6 seconds
Range: 850; 350
Passive: Marizon's Auto Attacks and Abilities on enemies coated with Ink will deal a bonus 3%/3.5%/4%/4.5%/5% (+0.5% for each Brush Upgrade) damage and will consume the Ink returning 8/11/14/17/20 (+1.5 for each Inkpot Upgrade) Ink.
Active: Marizon swings his brush vertically sending out a mass of ink dealing 40/60/80/100/120 (+60% of Bonus AP) to everything it hits and coating them with Ink for 7 seconds. Once it reaches its maximum range it will explode dealing 40/60/80/100/120 (+80% of Bonus AP) to all enemies hit and coating everything it hits. (The explosion does not activate the Passive portion of this ability, but if the explosion kills any enemies it will give Artistic Experience stacks.)
This ability behaves similarly to Anivia's Q, however you have no control over the explosion and it does not have any CC. Its movement speed is similar to Anivia's Q as well but its Ranges are different. This ability seems stronger or more overloaded than I believe it actually is, there is just a lot to explain. For those confused on the coating mechanic, basically this ability will coat all enemies hit by the initial Ink wave, then the explosion happens. The explosion DOES NOT activate the Passive portion of this ability, but it will give stacks of Artistic Experience if it kills any enemies.
W - Ring of Swords
Ink Cost: 25
Cool Down: 24/21/18/15/12 seconds
Range: Self; 25000
Marizon creates a ring of 5 Ink Swords around him for 5 seconds, the first enemy champion to attack him will cause the swords to rush forward and attack them dealing 80/110/140/170/200 (+70% of Bonus AP) Magic Damage no matter where they are on the map. The Ink Swords do not coat enemies in Ink but if they kill an enemy champion that is coated in Ink it will double the Artistic Experience stacks gained.
This ability works similar to Fiora's Riposte, however it doesn't block damage or CC it merely counter-attacks against the champion who first dealt damage to Marizon while this ability was active. All 5 swords count as one ability so Spellshields will block the entire ability. If Marizon is hit by a global ability, the Swords will race to where the enemy is on the map.
E - Ink Beasts
Ink Cost: 35 per Charge
Recharge: 20/17/14/11/8 seconds
Cool Down Between Uses: 1.5 seconds
Maximum Charges: 3
Range: 750
Marizon paints a mythical beast and brings it to life right in front of him. If there is no target the Beast will run to targeted area then stand still until an enemy champion is marked with Ink or if 12 seconds has passed. If an enemy champion is targeted upon cast, attack said target regardless of whether they are coated with Ink or not. The Beasts will lunge at its target striking twice once with its claws dealing 15/20/25/30/35 (+40% of Total AD)(+2.5 Physical Damage for each Brush Upgrade) Physical Damage then again by covering the enemy with Ink dealing 40/60/80/100/120 (+90% of Bonus AP)(+2% Bonus AP for each Inkpot Upgrade).
- Ink Beasts have 3 Health and take 1 damage from enemy champions. If an enemy champion manages to slay the Ink Beast before it deals damage the Ink Beast will dissolve into a pool of Ink and deal no damage. If Marizon stands in the Ink Pool for 5 seconds without taking damage he will regain the full cost of the Ink Beast.
These work similar to Voidlings mixed with Kalista's vision things. Basically you spawn an Ink Beast, if you don't designate a target for it, the beast will run to where you designated then wait there for 12 seconds or until an enemy champion is marked with Ink. However you can target an enemy champion and the beast will spawn in front of you then run towards the enemy champion. The enemy has the chance to kill the beast at any point before it does its second attack. The beast will continue running at the enemy champion forever once it targets them so long as the enemy can out run it, it does not aggro turrets.
R - Black Ink/Blank Page
Ink Cost: None
Cool Down: 110/90/70 seconds
Range: 700
Passive: Marizon gets 1 free upgrade each time he levels Black Ink/Blank Page, these are not counted towards the upgrade limit.
Active: Marizon channels for 1.5 seconds while he opens his special Pot of Magic Black Ink, after channeling he flings the Ink into the air Blinding all enemies within his range for 5 seconds and dealing 100/150/200 (+50% of Bonus AP) Magic Damage. Marizon can then cast Blank Page to return his Magic Black Ink dealing 50 (+30% of Bonus AP)(+10 Magic Damage for each Enemy Champion hit by Black Ink) Magic Damage and reducing Blank Ink's Cool Down by 10 seconds for each Enemy Champion hit.
This ability is pretty straight-forward and work similar to Graves or Nocturnes Blinds. This ability does not use his normal Ink, and thus has no cost, but its relatively low damage for an Ultimate sort of balances this out. The goal of this ability is to allow his Ink Beasts to run in and do their business without fear of being killed from range in a teamfight. The free upgrades he gains are not effected by the 5 upgrade limit and do not count towards it either, meaning at the end of the game he can have up to 8 upgrades of his choice.
Ok so that is Marizon, thank you again for those who read the entire Concept. I hope you will give me feedback, as long as it is constructive criticism and not just toxicity. This is and always will be a work in progress as long as there are things to fix about it. Don't forget to upvote if you liked it so I know that this concept was a success.
