[Champion Concept] Gardanx, the Abyssal Vanguard

Greetings NA summoners!

I would like to tell you about my first champion idea/suggestion. His name is Gardanx and he is a warrior from an ancient faction, called the Magelords. :) I posted it on the EUNE forums more than a year ago and now I'd really like to hear your opinion about it.

(It's kinda long, I warn you) :P

Champion Concept

I thought of a tank, specialising in absorbing high amounts of damage and use his defences (Armor, Magic Resist, HP) in order to deal damage. Take a look and after that, I would like to see your thoughts about him posted below. Please, read and give feedback for any possible mistakes. I would really appreciate that.

Lore

You may know of the war between two great factions, called the Magelords and the Protectorate (if you don't, read Aatrox's Lore first :p). Even though the Magelords achieved many victories, the Protectorate usually attacked small cities or villages, devastating everything in their wake.

In such a small city, Gardanx, a young boy, always expected to lead a peaceful life. However, he lost his parents one night, when the Protectorate soldiers attacked the city. Luckily, Gardanx was saved by a young sorceress, named Zentaria, who took him to the Capital, a safe haven for ages.

Upon growing up, the truth about his parents was revealed to Gardanx. The result of this was him want to become a great wizard so that he could avenge their death.

Lusting for revenge, he could see no other path to learn magic during wartime. So, by joining the army of is faction, he had to learn about sorcery, and it proved that he could indeed become an excelent Curser, if he was more focused.

The Cursers were very powerful sorcerers among the Magelords faction, who had the ability to weaken and destroy an entire Legion. Despite this great power, Gardanx refused to learn more about sorcery, terrified from the fact that he could possibly harm people who cared about him. Even the hate for the Protectorate was vanished by the fear of what he could turn into.

Considering this, he decided to protect the Magelords' Temples of Sorcery, until the end of his life. Many of the Magelord Elites were dissapointed by his choice, because the Cursers numbered less than ten in all the land. In the end, they have shown respect for Gardanx's decision and sent him as a Vanguard to an Outpost close to the borders. Zentaria followed him as well.

There, Gardanx practised on fighting with shield and sword. After a year of protecting the Outpost and the nearby villages, a large number of Protectorate soldiers attacked, catching them by surprise. The Outpost was saved again, due to their heroic efforts, but Zentaria was killed during the battle. Then, Gardanx, overwhelmed by fury and grief, unleashed a curse that affected the enemies' wounds. They couldn't stop screaming, as their wounds were burning and couldn't be healed , until they died.

Two months passed after Zentaria's death, and the war was about to end, because the Magelords achieved a series of crushing victories.

One day, while Gardanx was enchanting his armor with spells, like he did many times in the past, a Chasm opened and dragged him inside. He thought he was dead, but he found himself on a world that only few people had gone, and less returned. But among those who have returned, most of them weren't the same as the day they disappeared. To his horror, he recognised it from the stories he was told when he was young. It was the Abyss (or Void).

His charmed armor was affected by the environment, but somehow, it became stronger and inpenetratable. Many of the creatures there felt his presence and they tried to kill him, but without success. Through this ordeal, Gardanx had become a great fighter by facing such creatures and managing to stay alive.

Months passed like days, years passed like months, when one day, Gardanx found a creature unlike the others. It looked like a human, but the Void had changed its appearance. Gardanx waited for it to try and kill him, but instead the creature introduced itself as Kassadin. Unlike the other Void creatures, he was friendly. The Void Walker informed Gardanx that the chasm which dragged him in the Void was created by a creature named Vel'koz, when the foul creature was trying to leave the Void and explore Gardanx's world.

Upon being informed of this, Gardanx asked for Kassadin to help him escape the Void. He accepted and opened a rift between the two worlds not far from their position. When they approached the rift, they saw someone standing next to it. A silhouette that was attracted by the energy of the dimensional rift and also blocking their way. His small army of Voidlings rushed them. Gardanx and Kassadin fought without hesitation. Despite being only two, their battle formation distracted the Voidlings from the Rift and they took the opportunity to get into it, teleporting themselves to Runeterra.

Everything seemed way more different than the last time he was there. That hapened probably because the time he spent in the Void was equal to hundreds of years in Runeterra. Gardanx researched about his faction to check if they have won the war, but he found out that the Protectorate despite being outnumbered in their last battle, they had been assisted by a Legendary warrior, who belonged in a race known as the Darkin.

Since nothing remained for Gardanx in Runeterra, he is now waiting for a great war, hoping to face that warrior.

"They say it's impossible to go in the Void and survive. Well ... here I am. The living proof." -Gardanx.

Tips

  • Gardanx's abilities consume a lot of Mana. Try building Mana increasing items that also increase your stamina, such as Frozen Heart, Rod of Ages and Iceborn Gauntlet.

  • Sometimes "Offence is the best Defence". Well, in Gardanx's case, "Defence is the best Offence". Build Armor and Magic Resist items to increase both your tankiness and damage from your abilities.

  • Leap at the middle of the enemy team with your ultimate when activated your Veil of Protection and also land an E. This will make people hurt themselves.

  • Don't hesitate using Abyssal Dive (R) in order to escape a sticky situation.

  • If your death is inevitable, try choosing a spot, where Curse of Vengeance would be a big problem for the enemy team.

Counter Tips

  • If you see Gardanx activate his W too early, punish him for this mistake.

  • Try slaying Gardanx from distance in order not taking damage from his passive.

  • Gardanx can block a lot of damage with his W and also reflect back to you. Engage when the buff ends.

  • Be extra careful where you are outnumbered and Gardanx has had your defences decreased with his Break Defense. It would be wise to avoid a teamfight that moment.

  • Enemies are dealt damage from Gardanx's R only once. If you can't avoid being struck by his ultimate, choose wisely which kind of damage you can handle.

I don't think in official lore anything's actually been to the Void that didn't already live there, let alone come back alive.

And I'm fairly certain it would take more than just a suit of magic armor to survive in there, especially given the implications that there are MUCH worse things out there than Cho'Gath and the other Void champs.

I like your character a lot. He would work greatly along side my character ideas Ailish and Val. Now, I really have to think about my characters' lore, beginning attributes, and sayings. I would appreciate it if you took a look at them and let me know what you think about them.
