Soraka -- Appearance

I'd just like to get everyone's opinion on Soraka's appearance. Does it bug anyone else that her splash art is purple and sleek, making her appear as if she will be elegant and beautiful in-game; and then she's awkward blue and clunky in-game?

Soraka Beautiful Icon Actual In-Game Appearance Splash Art What should be her splash art

If you're just here to hate please don't waste your time, I'm just curious about responses of the people this actually bugs. I personally love Soraka, and play her all the time. Yes, even with her rework, even though it has it's downsides I still like the champ and don't plan on ceasing my use of her anytime soon. I just wish that while I played her she could be a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Also I apologize in advance if this is an inappropriate forum for this post! This is the first time I've used the League forums :x (For those who don't like links, the images are uploaded as attachments below)

I honestly don't feel there's that big of a disparity between her model and her artwork. The only major difference is her skin color, which has already been addressed by Riot once...The only thing I would give you is that her idle stance isn't very "Graceful" looking.

But, that's about it.

I always just thought it was her magic glowing that made her appear to look purple. The only thing I can complain about is the way she walks now... They changed her from elegant to rough. it doesn't suit her and I want her elegant walk back!item 3151

It has to do with when she was VU'ed.

They focused a lot more on her spell particles than her model, and there was a rift in the community at the time. Some wanted her to be more monstrous whereas others wanted her more humanoid.

I'm guessing it was hard for Riot to decide which direction to go.

I can see why the differences might bug you. I actually never payed close enough attention to that and I guess it never really bothered me anyways. Now that I'm looking at it, though, I do think it would be nice to see her in-game model better match her splash art. Even just a texture change would work for me, granted it's still not that imperative for me, either.

Honestly, the discrepancy really doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd argue if there's a discrepancy at all, just the way that the splash art is purple washed (much like how everyone complained about Ahri's new splash art being too dark). Soraka's got this "good looking face on a goat body" sort of thing going, I guess? I dunno, it really just doesn't bother me that much, Soraka looks awesome in game, and I think that there are bigger fish to fry in terms of model to splash art discrepancies.

*cough Morgana cough

She looks better blue. She needs to be blue. I dunno why her art is purple.

KesslerCOIL11/3/2014, 2:20:31 AM2 votes

Main things that bug me are her lazy eyes, her horn looking completely seperate and her skin being blue instead of purple

YES FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT

FTFY = fixed that for you

She is, without a doubt, what we would classify as a "satyr" in our mythology. At least that is what she resembles the most. In most mythology satyrs are lustful creatures, but Soraka is actually quite wrathful if you look at her original lore, and don't even get me started on league of legends lore.

I voted yes it does bug me because it actually does, but I just cant stand the hooves. why hooves? just why? it doesn't look good, its like giving varus ostrich legs with the inverted knees and everything

I think it's the way she runs. She doesn't have a sprint animation. I posted something about that earlier last week.

It literally took me a year to realize:

WHOA!!? Soraka is a styr? Or part horse/goat/...something!?

Her horn is a banana!

JustBoneBrook11/3/2014, 5:28:18 AM1 votes

Well yah it a bit weird but there alot of champ that need better art before that color change ... well in fact not really just some like kassadin udyr morgana and so really old model :D

You want ingame to look manga?

ShadowGlaive21311/3/2014, 7:58:06 AM1 votes

The thing that really bugs me about her in game is how they changed her run >.< it's not elegant or graceful at all.

turkeyBACON11/3/2014, 3:44:25 PM1 votes

I might be the only one, but I prefer her in game over her current splash art. I like her blue skin and hard lean lines over the purple curvy figure.

Coffee Ray Gun11/3/2014, 4:29:31 PM1 votes

Honestly, I love her splash and her in-game model. That chinese splash REALLY puts me off.

Jakethenight11/3/2014, 7:52:13 PM1 votes

Riot does this with a lot of champs, and it seriously bugs me on every one of them. Ezreal's hair, Morgana's skin, Vel 'Koz, Kog 'Maw, and quite a few more.

Wofye11/3/2014, 10:08:10 PM1 votes

I really think its the lighting in her splash art, its night time, the stars are glowing violet as well as the spell particle in her hand is violet, violet light on blue skin = indigo, her cape is hiding behind her body so theres no light on it, hence no red.

Anyway, I really would prefer if her cape was actually dark grey or something, and I don't like the orange in her in game model, her walk isn't elegant at all, I kind of wish it was more floaty, like an astronaut walk.

Duke Anax11/3/2014, 10:09:11 PM1 votes

a simple color shift to show how it would look. The shift to the background happened on accident, but I actually like it too.

PokladnicaZla11/2/2014, 8:49:51 PM1 votes

You could also add her Chinese splash art.The one would fit her more.

Star Warden11/2/2014, 8:26:02 PM1 votes

Soraka is not, and never will be your waifu, dude. Just because she isn't as voluptuous as her splash art, doesn't make the model bad. If you had much experience in modeling you'd know it isn't easy to make something look good, especially when you're only going to get to view it from the top down and at a fairly big distance. Let it go, eventually they'll update something about her visuals and probably make a new model.
