#[The Future of C&C] Part 2 - Big Questions!

Hello again, Concepts & Creations!

The Archivists are back with some big questions for you all regarding the future of the board. Specifically, we’d like to ask your opinions on a few ideas we have, and get YOUR ideas.

##To accomplish that, we’re welcoming any and all thoughts on ways you think we could improve the board experience or provide cool ways for the community to interact. Contests, showcases, featured content, themed months...go crazy in the comments below.

We do have a few ideas of our own though! Specifically, we’re going to ask a few questions about board organization and rules.

#THE BIG IDEA: Splitting the Board So this is the biggest change we're tossing around, and one we'd really like feedback on. Right now Concepts & Creations gets tons of different types of content -- champion concepts, streams, skin ideas, art, writing, music, gameplay ideas, and a whole host of other stuff. Our current thinking is this may be making the board hard to navigate, and possibly making the browsing experience frustrating.

To address that we've been discussing changing this board into two or more boards to better organize the posts we see. The eventual goal would be to create a new header on the board sidebar titled “CREATIVE” and containing all the creative boards. We have a couple directions for splits that we've come up with, and we're looking for your thoughts on them (and your thoughts if you can think of a better division...and whether it's even a good idea to implement something like this).

##Option A

  • Concepts & Creations
  • Streams & Videos

##Option B

  • Fan Art, Media, & Skins
  • Fan Gameplay Concepts
  • Fan Streams & Videos

##Option C

  • Art, Media, & Skins
  • Fan Stories & Lore
  • Champion Concepts
  • Gameplay Concepts
  • Streams & Videos

Our current preference is towards Option B. We're concerned that there isn't enough writing and art to merit a division of those two categories (although we’d be open to changing that in the future as the community grows), and, while there might be enough champion concepts and gameplay concepts to support two boards, we're not sure it's a valuable line to draw. We prefer it over Option A since it helps divide the art/skin/writing content (more abstract creative content) from the mechanical-leaning content like item ideas and champion kits, although we understand there's some overlap with fan-created champion lore.

#SUGGESTED RULES

We only have one big rule and two minor change we’re suggesting at the moment, but we’re still really interested in your input.

#1: We see a lot of very simple threads that aren’t really good for creating discussion, so we’re tossing around whether the following rule would be a good addition to the creative board rules.

Threads should either showcase a full or partial creative work, or invite discussion on creative works or creative processes. Threads that merely name an idea without at least token exploration of how idea could be designed or implemented may be subject to removal.

For example, "We should have Power Ranger Master Yi!" might be a good idea, but posting a picture of the red ranger doesn't tell us anything. Expand upon it! Maybe his sword glows red! Maybe his recall animation teleports him back? Does he have any particles? These little things help make your post better, help to sell your concept when you pitch an idea to the community, and offer more starting points for interesting discussion.

#2: We see a lot of thread titles in all capital letters, and were wondering if people think this makes thread titles hard to read. We’re debating whether or not we need to have a “No all-caps title/content” policy.

#3: Finally, we get a lot of threads that basically ask “when will we get [concept here], Riot?” This somewhat overlaps with the first subject, but we’re curious if the community wants us to be more active about culling request threads in Concepts & Creations boards if there is no creative content associated with them.

Thoughts, everyone? Any other useful rules we may need that we’re overlooking? As always, your comments are appreciated.

#DISCORD

Finally, would there be any interest in an unofficial Creative Community Discord? Is it a thing that you guys would be likely to use?

Also an Idea...Maybe there should be a contest or en event of some sort where artists and concept creators work together in duo's (self created or assigned) to create a full fledged champion concept, with art, lore, kit and all :D As a concept creator that is very bad at creating art myself, I've always wanted to work with an artist to bring my creations to life :D I'm curious to see if this goes the same way around (like, an artist that is not so good at creating a kit and lore)... Maybe even just a place for artists and concept creators to meet each other?

As stated on a previous post, I believe that both Option A and Option B would have their own merit, while I think Option C would create some boards that would rarely be used, not because people aren't making such content, but because it takes too long to make. The merit of Option A is we still keep around the same community, but the streams and gameplay videos are put elsewhere, which I'm sure many would be happy for. The merit of Option B is only a potential one, as if people had a place where they'd know their media would be recognized, they might make more. There exists many champion concepts and more are created every day, but art and media comes a bit slower to some than champion concepts, so I think the Artistic people might enjoy having a board that's not flooded with the next Helmet Bro. I'm not an overly artistic person though, so I don't know if this is true for those people. No matter what, I wouldn't complain with option A or B, but I think option C is overkill.

As for the rules, I think we should just have a place where we could actually read the rules easily. A pinned post or something like it cause we've never had that while I've been on this board atleast. The first rule suggestion is something I'd love, because it's quite annoying to see someone make an actual proper name for a post, you go in expecting a lot of thought and someone saying "Wouldn't a dual-wielding champion be cool?" and nothing else. The second rule is not something I think is a problem, but I wouldn't see problems with it becoming a rule. If people post an all-caps post, they just shouldn't expect to be taken seriously. The third rule is just a problem that could be fixed with an actual pinned post explaining the board. If people are told upfront that riot likely one: won't answer and two: don't take concepts directly off the board, we might avoid these "Riot, pliz see!" posts.

And a Discord? Hell yeah, a discord would be cool.

Edit: If a pinned post is made, it shouldn't have like 18 paragraphs explaining the intricasies of concept posting, but simply just a short line or two about our 3-5 or however few rules the board does/will have. The first concept post is daunting and we shouldn't make people too discouraged in posting.

i would go for option A as i dont mind seeing for example skins and concepts in the same board but i kind of dont like videos and streams in there too, it might be because of youtube and its recommended videos that gives me the kind of same feeling.

Just a point of clarity for everyone expressing favor of Option A:

Is it really apparent when you click on this board and read through the guidelines or the threads that Concepts and Creations is meant to include fan art, fanfiction, and more?

I'm in favor of Option B myself specifically because it'd mark out a clear place for that instead of lumping it all under Concepts and Creations. Not saying Option B is what we're going to do if the community thinks Option A is better, I'm just saying this is why I prefer B and I'm hoping you've considered that.

The idea of splitting the boards is one that is pretty good in my opinion. Though my preference would be leaning towards option A if anything. Reason being is that the more you split into different subcategories, the less overall viewing each one gets. Which is why if a split is needed, it might be better to with the less amount of new forums. It makes sense to me though i hope some the others can see where I am coming from. As for the rules, I think the first and third rules are good ones to implement. The second one isn't that much of a problem in my opinion. If a person wants to put all caps, then they can. It won't change too much besides maybe being a minor inconvenience. Personally I would love to see a Creative Community Discord. It would be a very nice addition for the community. :)

Deffinitly having a drop down menus would be nice, though I think they should have a conglomerate "Creative Home". That would make it so regardless of the board I could see competitions or questions going around, or just casually roam through materials.

Option B is deffinitly the best but I would reword it slightly

Fan Art, Media, & Skins Champion & Gameplay concept Streams & Videos

Really small difference but it makes it read better in my head as well as mentions were champion concepts go.

Option D

  • Champion & Skin Concepts
  • Gameplay Concepts
  • Fan creations (Art, Stories, & Lore)
  • Media (Streams & Video)

I guess personally since I like being more organized I'd like B or C.

I like the idea of having the different categories split, because I feel like having them all mostly together keeps some people's art/creations from getting any attention.

I like the CC boards because it's the place you go to post your art if it isn't really "good enough" for the showcase, but the way it is now I feel weird posting my art because the board is a mix of all different kinds of stuff. Splitting it up would give each type of creation it's own place so it isn't overshadowed by creations of a different type.

I'd suggest massive split:

  • Gameplay Creations for new champion and champion update ideas (less complex suggestions towards simple ability or vague ones could go to Gameplay)
  • Graphic Creations for visual art, comics (if images are emphasis) and skin suggestions and discussions
  • Music & Video Creations for streams, youtubers, music composers
  • Story Creations for lore discussion and suggestions, comics (if story is emphasis), stories

Or simplier split:

  • Champion & Skin Concepts for new champion and skin concepts, champion update ideas would go to Gameplay, skin discussions would go to Art
  • Story & Art Creations for story suggestions and discussion, art discussion and sharing of non-skin-concept art
  • Streams & Videos for youtubers and streamers

Or the simpliest possible split:

  • Gameplay, Art & Video Creations for new champion concepts, skin concepts, discussing and sharing art and for streams and videos
  • Lore for story suggestions and discussions

I personally think option a would be the best. Although b wouldnt be 2 bad c would flood the boards with a lot of needless sub boards imo. As for the rule proposals i look at thread titles as you advertising yoour discussion if people want to do all caps i say let them. And for the lack of content can we make that a thing on all boards. The constant nerf/buff champion with no ideas to start a discussion are starting to get old.

Gushis7/4/2017, 7:19:44 AM1 votes

I like option B or C, as I would rather well defined, strong, and niche communities. I want to go to a place where people are as passionate as I am about champion concepts. Otherwise other posts about skin concepts etc.. flood the place where I'm only interested in champion concepts and people who like them.

Candurill6/23/2017, 8:36:25 PM1 votes

I like the splitting of the creative boards. It will make the boards a lot neater and easier to navigate around. Option B sounds best indeed. A is also OK, but C is way too much. I mean, we do not want to divide so much that everyone has their own little subcommunity and never see the other content... About the rules: 1# Yes, since I believe these boards need a more dignified and sociable touch...just posting an idea without invitation of discussion wont add anything at all....HOWEVER, this might scare away first timers...maybe let such post off with a warning? 2# I don't know...I mean it will probably clean up the boards a lot...but sometimes it also invokes enthusiasm...so I'm guessing, all caps is allowed, but with reason....and not the whole post... 3# I'm ok with request posts, as long as they aren't just the question...Indeed the same as the first rule...make meaningful content that invites you to discuss options....

All in all nice to see that you guys want some good things for the future of the boards :D

Also: Nice idea to ahve a discord :D Also maybe a podcast from you guys? would be cool :d

Raxistaicho6/24/2017, 1:39:49 AM1 votes

I agree with your opinion about going for option B, pretty much for the same reason you talked about.

And I think a Discord is a cool idea :)

Arakadia6/24/2017, 2:47:35 AM1 votes

I would love a discord. I think it should atleast be given a shot.

I prefer option A. C&C is small enough.

Skylarke6/24/2017, 8:45:35 AM1 votes

I'm with Option A really. Splitting the board too far only limits the potential views we get which can be deadly to a board so dependent on criticism.

I find the idea of a Discord very intriguing also. Hmm...
