#[The Future of C&C] Part 2 - Big Questions!
Hello again, Concepts & Creations!
The Archivists are back with some big questions for you all regarding the future of the board. Specifically, we’d like to ask your opinions on a few ideas we have, and get YOUR ideas.
##To accomplish that, we’re welcoming any and all thoughts on ways you think we could improve the board experience or provide cool ways for the community to interact. Contests, showcases, featured content, themed months...go crazy in the comments below.
We do have a few ideas of our own though! Specifically, we’re going to ask a few questions about board organization and rules.
#THE BIG IDEA: Splitting the Board So this is the biggest change we're tossing around, and one we'd really like feedback on. Right now Concepts & Creations gets tons of different types of content -- champion concepts, streams, skin ideas, art, writing, music, gameplay ideas, and a whole host of other stuff. Our current thinking is this may be making the board hard to navigate, and possibly making the browsing experience frustrating.
To address that we've been discussing changing this board into two or more boards to better organize the posts we see. The eventual goal would be to create a new header on the board sidebar titled “CREATIVE” and containing all the creative boards. We have a couple directions for splits that we've come up with, and we're looking for your thoughts on them (and your thoughts if you can think of a better division...and whether it's even a good idea to implement something like this).
##Option A
- Concepts & Creations
- Streams & Videos
##Option B
- Fan Art, Media, & Skins
- Fan Gameplay Concepts
- Fan Streams & Videos
##Option C
- Art, Media, & Skins
- Fan Stories & Lore
- Champion Concepts
- Gameplay Concepts
- Streams & Videos
Our current preference is towards Option B. We're concerned that there isn't enough writing and art to merit a division of those two categories (although we’d be open to changing that in the future as the community grows), and, while there might be enough champion concepts and gameplay concepts to support two boards, we're not sure it's a valuable line to draw. We prefer it over Option A since it helps divide the art/skin/writing content (more abstract creative content) from the mechanical-leaning content like item ideas and champion kits, although we understand there's some overlap with fan-created champion lore.
#SUGGESTED RULES
We only have one big rule and two minor change we’re suggesting at the moment, but we’re still really interested in your input.
#1: We see a lot of very simple threads that aren’t really good for creating discussion, so we’re tossing around whether the following rule would be a good addition to the creative board rules.
Threads should either showcase a full or partial creative work, or invite discussion on creative works or creative processes. Threads that merely name an idea without at least token exploration of how idea could be designed or implemented may be subject to removal.
For example, "We should have Power Ranger Master Yi!" might be a good idea, but posting a picture of the red ranger doesn't tell us anything. Expand upon it! Maybe his sword glows red! Maybe his recall animation teleports him back? Does he have any particles? These little things help make your post better, help to sell your concept when you pitch an idea to the community, and offer more starting points for interesting discussion.
#2: We see a lot of thread titles in all capital letters, and were wondering if people think this makes thread titles hard to read. We’re debating whether or not we need to have a “No all-caps title/content” policy.
#3: Finally, we get a lot of threads that basically ask “when will we get [concept here], Riot?” This somewhat overlaps with the first subject, but we’re curious if the community wants us to be more active about culling request threads in Concepts & Creations boards if there is no creative content associated with them.
Thoughts, everyone? Any other useful rules we may need that we’re overlooking? As always, your comments are appreciated.
#DISCORD
Finally, would there be any interest in an unofficial Creative Community Discord? Is it a thing that you guys would be likely to use?
