Reya’s Bio
Reya was a born of Zaunite descent to two of the most devoted followers of Zaun’s guardian wind spirit, Janna. Upon birth, Reya was seen to have been hovering slightly above her mother’s arms. Her pale skin, clear white eyes, and her early proficiency with Wind magic led many to believe she was a gift from Janna herself.
Reya’s increasing interest in magic earned her a fan from both of her parents, each symbolizing their devotion to the wandering wind spirit. Her mother’s fan was decorated with blinding flourishes of white and red, recognizing the constant turmoil in the world, while her father’s fan held a strange incantation that allowed it change from white to black, when held by different people. Reya’s early childhood life was full of excitement and seemingly endless attention from whomever she met.
However, when both of her parents died from exposure to highly toxic chemicals, as was common in the depths of Zaun, she became increasingly compared to an omen of death. She was shunned by her friends, kicked out of shops and houses, and began to cradle her emotions tightly, deep inside of her heart.
On the day Reya turned 11, a wealthy Zaunite bought her because of his unheard of obsession with Janna. From the day she was bought, Reya was kept inside a 5 meter-thick metallic room, far below Zaun’s walkways, where she honed her skills and fused martial arts and magic. Practicing techniques of wind she had learned from birth, she became increasingly confident in her defensive spells, although she had no one to practice on.
When Reya had turned 12, she had already forgotten why she sealed off her emotions and practiced magic. Harnessing no more ability to feel, she thought of everyone as beneath her, because she was not plagued by human emotion, and was not a source of scourge and disease. She was not inefficient.
Everything changed for Reya when a chemical explosion forced her owner to transfer her to a safer place. Instead, Reya ended up separated from the crowd and was once again alone in an all-too-familiar smell. To Reya’s surprise, someone saved her from the noxious gas and she was reborn anew. Having found her emotions again, she vowed to meet her savior once again, and help everyone she met, express their true emotions.
Reya's Story/Lore
Catharsis
Outbursts of unadulterated ferocity and pure hatred spearheaded every corner of the tightly wounded, barren, metallic room. Yelling, shouting, cursing, banging. Sounds of voracious anger ate up the surrounding walls, breaking through everything standing in resistance. It rang through the walls, the rooms above, the unyielding rock beneath. It pierced through almost everything.
However, one special existence remained untouched, invulnerable to the world around her. It seemed as if the impurity would not reach her—it could not reach her.
Thin, pitch-black hair poured straight down, reaching below her ghosted elbows, only just failing to touch the ground while she sat. Not caring for her appearance in the absence of existence, her face hid behind the waterfall of night. What lay underneath was a bust of totally calm, totally impalpable, grace and beauty. Her brightly lit, white eyes contrasted her magma infested dress of a malignant red and black, but almost appeared the offspring of her hair. Her small figure, endearing and restrained, suggested her inexperience and indifference.
Her presence endured above everything else, only able to sit and observe with curiosity. Only the dark, loose dress, reminiscent of a more traditional past, and two fans of a beautiful ornamental display, memorabilia from her progenitors, held stuck to her person. With only a faint idea of how the world of darkness and smog worked she set herself on expanding her understanding. Her eyes brought loneliness, her ears conveyed anger, her nose topped off her extraction of the world beneath her, no matter how confusing and inefficient it was.
Recognizing her efforts to sympathize as futile, she shifted her thoughts to a more interesting concept. Why was she locked in this room? She knew she had powers, abilities that people had once praised and revered. She could not compute the change in attitude. Why, if she was so special and so much akin to Janna, had she been alone? Why, if she was so powerful, so useful, was she put to the most inefficient state of being? Why, if she was such a rarity, was she left in the hands of the imbecilic, in the hands of darkness?
Suddenly, an explosion sounded off in the distance, and within a few seconds, the grey door broke free of its constraints, flying at breakneck speed toward the opposite side of the room. The sickness roamed past the doorway, spreading throughout the room, and gathering around the girl, but never getting close enough to touch her. Ill-faced henchmen followed through, gas masks equipped and stench-ridden suits donned, as if taking orders from the disease and the poignant rotting. Without having time to think, she was forced out, fans in hand, with the henchmen taking the lead, and the disease trailing close behind.
Thoughts. Questions. Curiosity. They ran beside her as she was forcibly taken into the above grounds and walkways of the industrial powerhouse, the pipeline-riddled world she thought was supposed to be below her. Constantly pulling on her arm, the henchman seemed to be guiding her past the crowds of panicking citizens, only now appearing in front of the girl.
She revelled at the people beneath her. How could they show so much emotion? Left and right, faces borne masks of different origins. How was she supposed to comprehend everything? She knew of fear, she knew of grief, she knew of hatred. But no matter what she did, she could not replicate—she could not understand.
Without warning, the henchmen started into a sprint, an unbearable pace for the girl. She tripped, throwing her beloved treasures and her train of thought into disarray. Confused, she sat alone on the moist, cracked, ground, watching as passerbyes ran past without a moment of hesitation. She wondered, from what were they running from? She wondered, why did they look afraid?
The little girl did not have much time to think. From behind her, she took notice of a smell so familiar, yet more different than anything else she had previously inhaled. It pierced her world. It touched her. It grounded her. She was not invulnerable anymore.
She struggled for understanding, she struggled for explanation. No. She struggled for her life. She didn’t care what it was. She didn’t care from where it came. She didn’t care for anything but her life. She yelled. She cried. She understood.
Without warning, a silhouette appeared before her. The slender figure dashed through the gas, caring not for the death rapidly surrounding her. Quickly, she ran to the girl, her face giving off an aura of helplessness, of fragility. The stranger’s face alluded to her experiences, and seemed bravery incarnate. No emotion the little girl knew could be detailed on her face. The most complete and exhausted inspection of her expressions revealed no fear, no grief, no hatred. It showed something akin to heaven, something above her world.
The stranger took off her mask and placed it on the dying girl, revealing her smile, more beautiful, more deadly than anything the little girl had seen. The smile was only brief however, as the stranger swiftly donned a handkerchief. However, the brief moment of connection translated into a new beginning for the girl. She realized her memories had been filled with nothing but apathy. Emotion and sympathy avoided her, or more accurately, were repelled by her. Her days were filled with only curiosity. What else could she do in a locked, metal room, but think.
But nothing in the world could have made her think more than she did before, save for true experience, save for her savior.
After safely securing the mask on the girl, the stranger left immediately, no trace of her left for the little girl to follow. Nothing she could touch at least.
A few hours past, and the little girl finally found her way up to Piltover, holding dearly onto her torn fans as if they were the only remembrance of her past life. Hoping to find her savior, and finally relay a feeling of thanks, she searched everywhere, making note of all the emotions she saw. Faces that used to don masks totally incomprehensible to her, now displayed an array of feelings, experiences, thoughts. Each face, familiar, or completely new, now enhanced the girl’s understanding of the world she thought was beneath her. She was glad to find it wasn’t.
With a newfound insight, she set off on a journey. Inside, a rising inspiration to find the beautiful figure that taught her of a new world, swelled, and along with it, her recent tidings of the spiteful emotions in the new world, manifested into more curiosity. Were there more faces to see? Where could I find them? How could I see the world as she saw it?
And upon her vows of total understanding, one of her earliest recollections came to the brightest part of her mind. Instantly, the ground rocked beneath her, the girl slowly rising into the air. Shock and awe filled the crowds, and simultaneously knocked their breaths out. The girl had amassed an energy unfamiliar to the modern residents of Piltover. But the Zaunites knew. Steadily, her pitch-black hair gave way to a bright, superfluous, white. The pure, white snow cascaded down, failing to block the unyielding gems that lay firm, watching every move.
The Compassionate and the Perceptive, with eyes that yearn for the truth. The Effervescent Inquisitor.
“Reya.” the little girl whispered.
Finally, she thought. She expressed. She understood.
Role
Reya is meant to be a very squishy, self-buffing, ranged Attack Damage Carry in the Bottom Lane. She focuses a lot on making the most use out of every spell she casts to help her deal damage with her auto attacks. Because Reya relies on her abilities to survive fights, she is not very good early game, as her high mana costs and cooldowns inhibit her trading potential. Her auto attacks are not as useful as other ADCs in lane, but scales well into late game, due to the true damage and mobility in her kit.
Base Stats
HP : 465 HP+ : 70 HP5 : 8.5 HP5+ : 0.6
MP : 260 MP+ : 50 MP5 : 7 MP5+ : 0.7
AD : 68 AD+ : 3 AS : 0.7 AS+ : 5%
AR : 20 AR+ : 3 MR : 18 MR+ : .5
Auto Attack Range : 625 Movement Speed: 335
Reya’s base stats are meant to be held to extremes, as an indication of both her fragility, and her strength. Reya’s defensive stats are quite low compared to other champions to compensate for her relatively high offensive stats and mobility. Her mana is another standout from other ADCs, boasting somewhat of a high base MP and MP scaling. This makes her a good hyper carry like Vayne and Kog’maw.
Abilities
Passive - Swift Tempest
As Reya uses a spell, she gains a burst of movement speed for 1/2/3 second(s) equal to 20 + 60/70/80% (levels 1/6/11) of bonus movement speed.
- Does not stack upon multiple spell uses
- Instead reapplies movement speed buff for every spell use
Q - Fear (Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 seconds)
As one of the most prevalent emotions seen by Reya, Fear encompasses one of her fans as she throws it to a targeted location, creating an area of wind that silences enemies who run past for 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8/2 seconds. She can then re-cast the spell (in a specific direction relative to the first cast) within 3 seconds to open the fan and spread wind and Fear into a fan shape, which fears enemies for .7/.9/1.1/1.3/1.5 seconds if they are hit while facing the fan.
- If enemies are hit by the re-cast of Fear while facing a different direction, they are only slowed by 7/9/11/13/15% for 1 second
- Does not do any damage
- Initial Q range is slightly longer than Viktor E
- Area of effect is only slightly larger than Annie W
- Costs 90/105/120/135/150 mana
- Tempest Unleashed: Initial range of the Fear is doubled.
W - Anger (cooldown: 1 second)
Reya envelops her fans in Anger, stealing 1/2/3/4/5% of Reya’s maximum HP for every auto attack. During this time, Reya’s auto attack’s do an extra 6/7/8/9/10% of Reya’s bonus AD as true damage. Her first auto attack on an enemy champion leaves a Tempest Trail wherever they walk for 3 seconds, decreasing the movement speed of other enemy champions by 3%
- Reya cannot re-apply Tempest Trail on an enemy champion until Anger has been toggled off for at least 3 seconds
- Tempest Trail’s movement speed debuff does not apply to the enemy champion hit
- Toggle
- Tempest Unleashed: Steals twice the amount of HP from Reya to mark the face of all enemy champions within 2000 units of Reya for the duration of Tempest Unleashed. If Reya’s auto attacks hits the mark, it doubles Anger’s damage bonus.
E - Love (Cooldown: 24/23/22/21/20 seconds)
Reya charges her fans with love and throws one through a champion, landing a certain distance behind the champion hit. After a second cast of the spell, Reya can dash to the fan. After Reya dashes to the fan, she can recast Love once more within 3 seconds, on the same or a different champion.
- The Love fan’s range is 650 units, and drops a fan 450 units behind the enemy champion hit
- Reya can auto attack while dashing to the fan
- Reya is still susceptible to damage and CC while dashing to the fan
- Love works on allied and enemy champions
- Does not do any damage
- Costs 110/120/130/140/150 mana
- Tempest Unleashed: Reya is able to dodge CC when she is dashing to her fan. She is still vulnerable to damage.
R - Curiosity (Cooldown: 100/85/70)
Reya uses everything in her power to explore as much emotion as she can, entering her Tempest Unleashed form, and empowering herself and all of her abilities for 11/13/15 seconds. Reya also breaks free of auto attack constraints, and skips fleetly across the wind with unparalleled balance, unable to stop until the end of the ultimate duration.
- While Curiosity is active, Reya moves constantly, and is unable to stop
- If a movement command has not been issued before Reya reaches the target destination of the last movement command, she will keep - skipping in the same direction
- Reya is able to auto attack during the duration of Curiosity
- While Curiosity is active, Reya’s Passive, Swift Tempest, is also active
- Costs 150/180/210 mana

Playstyle
Reya’s playstyle revolves around auto attacking constantly. None of her abilities deal direct damage, so she has to rely on good positioning and consistent auto attacks for all of her damage. Going all out in fights without her ultimate ability is risky, because she is somewhat limited in her movement against hard CC champions, although it is possible to outplay them. Reya’s early game is lackluster because of her high mana costs and non-damaging abilities. She struggles to trade, but as she farms and holds out for mid to late game, it becomes easier to fight. She scales hard because of her true damage and amazing movement, but can be easy to shut down, because she is extremely squishy, and is weak to a barrage of CC.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Reya is weak to champions with multiple types of CC. Champions like Maokai and Nautilus are good to play against Reya, because they can live longer and wait for Reya’s abilities to go on cooldown. She is very susceptible to instant gap-closing champions like Pantheon and Talon, where the damage cannot be dodged or avoided. Her range is also limited, and none of her abilities help in fighting poke champions. Jayce and Ezreal can excel against her as they have ways to kill Reya without getting too close.
Reya is good at teamfighting. She has the potential to 1v5, and her ultimate makes fighting against CC heavy teams, easier. Mobility is the bread and butter of her kit, where the focus of all of her abilities is to help her stay alive to do more damage.
Combos?
Use E when chasing after an enemy champion to reposition in front of them to get an easy Q fear.
- When using Curiosity, you can auto attack quickly after E to get extra damage off for free.
When being cornered on the enemy team’s side of the map, use Q first to proc fear on the enemy champion chasing you, and quickly E through while the champion is feared.
- You can auto attack during this time if you have W toggled, in case the enemy has backup.
What are her Problems?
Reya has many foibles in her playstyle and champion kit that the enemy team can make use of, to pummel you into the ground. Her abilities that allow you to self-peel in teamfights and support yourself, also come with dire consequences if cannot micromanage well and position even better.
Misplacing Fear can act as a signal for enemies to engage without worry for AoE hard CC. Misuse of Fear, like using it aggressively when it is more useful defensively, can increase your chances of missing, and also throw away a useful silence. Good and bad decision-making skills can make Fear the most useful, and the most useless ability in Reya’s kit.
Anger is a 50/50. For an ADC to intentionally damage herself, means that nobody on the enemy team even has to build thornmail to hurt you without hitting you. Knowledge of when to play aggressive with Anger, and when to toggle it off is key to outputting the most damage you can, while surviving.
Misusing Love is more dangerous than standing in front of a Blitzcrank, and can place you in a deadly spot where the enemy team can kill you for free. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if you play too safe by using Love on your teammates, you can place yourself too far behind the fight, and miss out on outputting damage. Knowledge of the boundaries of Love is needed to make the most out of your positioning.
Curiosity is easily the most controversial ability in Reya’s kit. Although the amount of mobility Curiosity gives Reya in a fight may seem overpowered, it is hard to use and can leave you mispositioned greatly. Curiosity is similar to Lucian’s ultimate, Culling, but requires more micromanagement. It can be thought of more like Kalista’s passive, Martial Poise. However, Curiosity is harder to manage because you cannot stop your movement during the full duration of the ultimate. This means knowledge of the enemy’s positioning in relation to yours, is more impactful in positioning successfully. Forgetting that you cannot stop is deadly and can place you far away from your team, and closer to the enemy team than you thought.
Team Composition
Reya works especially well in balanced team comps. She requires at least one squishy support to provide her buffs, and can excel if there are two tanks. Three tanks, or even four tanks to pair up with Reya is not a bad idea, but is risky and can be thwarted by assassins or a long range Poke composition. However, at least one tank must be on her team to make good use of her teamfighting potential. The absence of a tank can shift enemy focus onto Reya at the start of a battle, and quickly shut her down. Reya, like any ADC, likes playing behind good tanks and supports, but the unique part about her is her reliable true damage, making AP based mid laners, or even damage mid laners, like Xerath or Zed, not necessary.
Reya does not work well in a Poke composition, and can only provide range for sieges. None of her abilities do any damage and do not add any threat to a long-winded standoff. Also, Reya, as made obvious by the focus of her kit, works best among engage champions. Because Reya like staying alive and kiting hard to do consistent damage, she cannot start a fight, or if she does, has to back off almost immediately. Reya also works extremely well in Pick compositions where she can make quick use of her E, Q combo and start a skirmish without too much risk. Split compositions work as well as a Poke composition, because although she has a lot of mobility for east disengage, her potential damage output is wasted, she has long cooldowns to wait for before she can stall again. It is better for her to just fight a 5v5 and maximize her usage of abilities.
Why Reya?
What is it that makes Reya a worthwhile pick, when compared the other Champions in League of Legends? Reya is just like any other ADC, but what makes her unique is a combination of playstyle, build path, and focus. Reya is a fun ADC that makes use of unique abilities to run laps around the enemies and kite insanely well. Because of this however, you cannot play lazily, and clown fiesta easily for kills. Her most unique ability, Curiosity, is fun to use and takes a lot of skill to extract its full potential in a teamfight. It also adds a neat mechanic to the game, so pulling off a great teamfight makes it all the more satisfying. Furthermore, although none of her abilities do any direct damage, her abilities do provide some kind of buff and can help her teammates do more in teamfights. She is well balanced in teamfights and has a unique playstyle suited to her kit and lore. She also can make use of many different item builds, keeping her from having the same, stagnant gameplay. Because of all of these factors, playing Reya requires you to focus in a different way than most other champions. Reya requires mechanical skill, and needs good micromanagement of not just you, but of the team around you, and even the enemy team. This can even help with players' general skill and can translate to other champions and higher divisions in League of Legends.
Finally, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Reya! :D
