Welcome to November's Monthly Champion Creation Contest! This is a four-week contest to see who can create the most complete and best champion concept within a given set of parameters.Your hosts this month are yours truly, Moby the White, RamseySnow, & Sir Arma. As far as Judging goes, I have one rule, I follow a strict rubric, and I will provide an explanation for why I feel as though I do. I will not argue with you, if you wish to argue I will disqualify you. I will however oblige any calm collective conversation with you.

Rubric for Lore:

Lore: Does the story adequately explain the champion's abilities? Is it within a reasonable length? Does it stir emotion? X/25

I use the following criteria:

  1. Clarity-syntax does your lore have proper spelling and grammar? Fluidity-does your lore flow well in story going from point to point and makes sense?
  2. Theme- does your lore have a strong thematic approach?
  3. Motivation- does your lore explain how they got their powers and why they joined the league? Or where is the league now? Why does your champion exist?
  4. Tone and mood- how does it read and does it inspire emotional response? Does the reader like reading it?
  5. Originality- is you lore original or unique? Or does it put an innovative twist on something well known? Lore Secret Challenge: X/10 Judged under the same rubric as Lore is.

Theme: X/10 (Do the abilities and lore fit the overall theme)

Lore Ability Synergy: X/5 (Do your abilities reflect your character?)

#Rubric for Abilities/Kit Portion

Gameplay/Balance: (X/25)

Does the champion as a whole make people want to play it? Is it fun to play as? Is it fun to play against? Is it different from champions that already exist in the game? Is the interface and targeting confusing or streamlined? Do enemies have some way to counter-play your mechanics, or are they dead no matter how well they play? Note: if they are dead no matter how they play, that’s bad.

Creativity: X/15

Is this creative and original, or an interesting take on something already executed?

Kit Cohesion/Synergy: X/10 Does everything work well together?

THEMES:

I watched solemnly from the sands of Shurima as the fog set in. The desolation wrought upon this land spitting blackness upon the lands of Runeterra as it spread. My body remained lifeless and motionless for some time, my memory shrouded in mystery. Am I now to become a victim to the darkness as well? It may steal my memories, but never my life.

Slowly I rise, the chronoshift returning me to life. My reincarnated form stands defiant of the oncoming swarm of perpetual death that resides within the black mists. I watch now as emptiness consumes all leaving destruction in its wake. The hands of time tick slowly as I watch the chaos ensue.

Runeterra will not be consumed by this catastrophe. I, Zilean, will stop it. I teleport to the clocktower, its cold metal hands still lifeless from the events that unfolded here. I use the giant clock to focus my powers, and rewind time itself to rid this land of the darkness. The hands of time spin as I rewind the course of history. I see Urtistan in all its glory, the vision distracts my concentration and suddenly it all stops. What have I done?

The hands of time have stopped, and as I gaze through time itself I realize now I've made a fatal mistake. Time has been warped by the greed of my memories, and now I see that the entirety of Runeterra's history has been rewritten. The city states that prospered now lay in ruin, the Institute never existed, and now once isolated areas are thriving...

What has happened to these lands...what is left of Runeterra? Is this truly all that remains?

In an attempt to save Runeterra from the destruction Zilean has rewound time, but has unfortunately retconned the Institute of War out of existence. What exists now is a group of lands that survived due to their low populations. These areas are all that remain of the old Runeterra, and Champions now arise from these areas to fight for their lands. The theme for this month is to create a champion from one of these areas and find a way to satisfy their respective themes.

Lore Challenge: Times are Tough, this is a different world than the one we knew, we now exist in a realm where Rune wars reek havoc upon the lands destroying much of the world. The Institute was never there to peacefully resolve wars, or diminish bandits. This is a world with no rules. Create a story that reflects the destruction and dystopian world that now exists.

Kit Challenges:

|Faction or locale|Requirement| |- |Icathia|Central theme must be otherworldly. Either sourced from void magic or from old, forgotten gods.| |Plague Jungles| At least one spell must be proximity-based (Multi-hit , 'spreading', aoe, first hit, etc) in some way.| |Urtistan|at least two spells must interact with time in some way| |Voodoo lands|Powers derive from rituals and/or dark magic. At least one spell must involve a ritual of some kind.| |Kumungu|Must interact with terrain in some way.| |Fyrone Flats |Must have impressive mobility that is limited by more than just cost and cooldown.| |Howling Marsh|At least one spell must interact with death in some way. Either self-death, ally death, or minion/monster death, etc. | |Serpentine River|The area has been largely untouched by civilization since the league was erased. Kits should reflect their ferocity and/or survival instinct.|

Lore Secret Challenge: In less than 250 words, your champion needs to MacGyver their way out of a dangerous situation with just the items/kit they has on them.

As for the Kit challenge:

Zilean has been tinkering with the timeline, trying to reverse what has been done. Echoes from other timelines have slipped into the consciousness of all inhabitants of Valoran. At least one of your abilities must reflect an aspect from one of the lost states.

Noxus: At least one ability must ramp up in power over a duration to show your superiority.

Demacia: At least one ability must pacify (effectiveness of attacks/spells reduced or entirely prevented. Stuns/suppresses don't count.) or condemn (ability based on enemy missing health or enemy power) your enemies.

Bilgewater: At least one ability must steal something from an enemy. (If the chosen thing is gold, you can't actually reduce the enemy's gold as that's one of the unspoken rules of LoL champs.)

Freljord: One of your abilities applies a self-slow.

Yordle Land: One of your abilities alters the size or shape of you or your enemies.

Zaun: At least one ability must apply a self-buff (10+ seconds) or enemy debuff (6+ seconds) for a long but non-permanent duration.

Piltover: At least one ability must upgrade or change over time. (Must affect more than just raw power)

Ionia: At least one ability must have a second activation that does something very opposite to the first activation.

Shadow Isles: At least one ability must terrify the enemy.

Again because the allocation is rather low it's kind of optional if you don't want to screw with your kit, but it will give a small advantage if you work one of them in. Also because this is a kit challenge there's no requirement to change your lore or even the theme of the altered ability to match the faction you choose. Just remember to state if/which challenge you're completing on your post where you say which main challenge you're completing.

#SCHEDULE:

Week 1 (Nov 1-7): Begin working on Lore, Abilities, Stats. Last day for entries is the 7th, have your thread link posted and some basic ideas posted by the end of the 7th if you intend to enter.

Week 2 (Nov 8-14): Entries are closed. I will announce it and after I do, it is final. Secret challenges will be revealed. Those who do not have Lore and Abilities posted by the end of Week 2 will be eliminated

Week 3 (12-24): PRELIMS BEGIN Rough Draft of PQWER and Lore MUST be posted. Final Lore and PQWER MUST be finished by the end of Week 3. Work on completing explanations of gameplay and abilities during this time if you have not done so already. Description of how you intend the champion to function in each stage of the game will be helpful to the judges and your score.

Week 4 : Judging begins. Judges will announce it. At that point all entries are locked in. Any changes made after this point may not be seen by the judges. Making changes during this time is done knowing this.

As judges, we cannot enter our own contest, but if you have any questions about the requirements I am happy to answer them. Don’t forget, no using already existing champions, as that defeats the purpose. Good Luck and Have Fun! I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with

Additionally if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Good Luck and have fun,
Moby the White

A challenger appears!

Tick... tock...

I slip, languidly, between the moments, as time is devoured before the second hand of a clock. How long have I drifted, lost to this fugue? I do not know, nor do I want to. Such knowledge would crush a lesser man - I feel that, if I were to know, I'd merely weep.

Tick... tock...

This ephemeral haze grants me brief glimpses into the waking world. I find reality to be a distorted mess of abstract concepts when viewed in this manner. Lives, fresh and pure, turning to dust in seconds. Are these visions of things that have happened? More to the point, are they things that are coterminous with what I know? Are these realities I have lived? Through this silvery haze, I wonder.

Tick... tock...

If time is a series of causes and events, what lead to my predicament? What fickle god have I angered? What fickle god must I appease for a reprieve? A mere heartbeat's worth of time outside this storm of moments would be... incredible. I want for nothing else.

Tick... tock...

Do I have a body, or am I merely thought? Wrapped in a gauzy, ethereal mist, I can't be sure. I am numb to the world.

Tick... tock...

One thousand, seven hundred and thirty four... one thousand, seven hundred and thirty five...

Tick... tock...

One million, seven hundred and fifty eight thousand, three hundred and two... one million, seven hundred and fifty eight thousand, three hundred and three...

Tick... tock...

Four billion, seventeen million, three hundred and fifty five thousand, two hundred and one... four billion, seventeen million, three hundred and fifty five thousand, two hundred and two...

Tick... tock...

Nine hundred and ninety nine quintillion, nine hundred and ninety nine quadrillion, nine hundred and ninety nine trillion, nine hundred and ninety nine billion, nine hundred and ninety nine million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and nine... what comes after that? Is it sextillion? No, no... one a... two a... three a...

Tick...

Huh? I... I feel warm.

Tock...

Hot... it's getting... hot?

Tick...

It's so hot! Why is it so hot?!

Tock...

It burns! Fire, it hurts!

Tick...

I clench my fists and I feel the nails of my fingers bite into the palms of my hands. I feel! Have I for so long drifted that the heat was sensation?! My nerves screaming out after centuries of disuse? I thrash against the pain of burning pins and needles, but I pause with realization. I glance down - I glance down - and my body... I have a body! My lungs ache and I let out a breath of stale air.

Tock...

I thrill at the sensations I experience. I bite my hand until I bleed, and then I let it heal. Time is an interminable thing, and I still drift. Part of me knows that I have lived before, that I have felt all these experiences and so many more, but... but I relish each jolt of pain from muscles that I have not used in far too long.

Tick...

Memories, jagged and broken, flicker through my mind. They are of me! Have I drifted for so long that I marvel at the man I was?

Tock...

I do not age. My hair and fingernails do not grow. I do not hunger or thirst, and I wonder why I can again feel, if there is nothing to feel.

Tick...

I watch the flickering images of the man who I was, and I wait.

Tock...

Time continues to pass, or fail to pass. I cannot be sure.

Tick... tock...

... five hundred and thirty eight thousand, five hundred and six... g... five hundred and thirty eight thousand, five hundred and seven... g...

A CHALLENGER APPEARS: Bereghost, the Unwinder

"I will escape. I will escape. This, I swear. And I will have my vengeance on whoever trapped me in this hell. I will rip them from history's weave and erase their very existence!"

JUDGING BEGINS!

Nagirte11/26/2014, 11:40:30 AM3 votes

Communication between judges hasn't been perfect so the list of entrants on the entrant page isn't complete. I count 16 entries.

Entrants I found are below

Bereghost, the Unwinder --> Core Augur Elizabeth, the light's legacy --> Blackbird123 Quirk, the Fyrone Rocketier --> utDOOM Mordiggan, Voidborn Cerebrate --> Still Eternity Melant, The Second's Hand --> TheDeathstalker Nykken, the Marshwater Spirit --> BigBenClockTower Vexx and Lie, Twins of Desolation --> Kamiroo Wolf Xavash, Ember of the Flame --> RickDodger Elliot, the Lost Dreamer --> Rothmi Tillion, the Argent Wing --> Zanryu Dolup, the Wandering Paladin --> Panda Eggs Anagast, the Erlking --> Afgudins Frauja Rade, the Legend's Survivor --> Chris017 Atten, the Feral Soldier --> Othello the Cat Ilil, the Temporal Prankster --> MarimbaMaster Eilia, the Fervid Blade --> Elphrihaim

Skull Guy never completed his post, responded to my comment, or linked a thread so if he does not respond to this and show me that it was done before the deadline he will be DQ'd.

If there are any entries that I missed, it is on you guys to let me know.

Not for nothing, Deathstalker, but MCCC's been here longer.

More to the point, I procrastinate. I place fairly regularly. But I have a process - I don't immediately post an entire kit because I don't(and still don't) know what I want to do with it. I know the character. That's all that's important to me. It takes me a bit to find abilities that mesh well with the character. I don't like having half a topic posted because it invites criticism that I do not want yet. All I have is a biography and a teaser - and I've already been downvoted on Bereghost's page. Why? Who the hell knows.

What's the big deal with off-topic conversation, anyway? If this is such a community, then we should be able to talk about anything. Not tell us to go do it elsewhere.

Moby the White11/12/2014, 12:11:02 AM3 votes

Still Eternity makes a great suggestion for a MCCC discussion panel where contestants can utilize this to discuss and leave commentary. I actually like it and plan to implement the concept for December (assuming the other two judges want to go again and wish to have me remain as one of the judges.

To Elph:

I agree with you completely, this whole aspect is completely unfair for me to force you to post links, I'd rather wished that we could have discussed this in a way that would have satisfied both of our interests rather than developed this into a scenario where we as the judges become enforcers of rules and you the contestant are seen as a rules lawyer.

Here is what I recommend. And this is the last bit I can say on this issue, and the last anyone should express regarding the issue. There is 14 days for you to come up with a link from the beginning. If others are following this rule and not posting commentary on this page you will not lose any feedback, (additionally you will not lose any feedback because you moving your concept will not delete their posts which you knew already).

From this I can suggest the following compromise as I had before, at the end of Prelims there should be no concept posted in this thread only the links. This isn't me, this isn't Ramsay, this isn't Arma. We are trying to avoid the mess that can occur from multiple posts for the same concept and have concepts and their commentary flood the main board. NEXT MONTH, WE WILL CREATE A MCCC DISCUSSION BOARD: This will allow you to build your concept and have at it with the commentary, then we will have the main MCCC page which will have the Rules and Challenges, your links, and our judgement.

I hope this rectifies the issue at hand, for this MCCC I ask for our convenience that the issue be tabled, and that you do your best to satisfy the requirements that we ask of you. If you cannot, you are welcome to speak to me in person regarding the issue, whether ingame, email, twitter, whatever.

We apologize for the inconvenience and we aim to improve the contest next month with this excellent feedback.

Moby the White11/29/2014, 12:58:44 PM3 votes

Fine elph, I wanted to be discreet about it since I didnt want people expecting shit from me. I am trying to give you your reward for winning last month. Ok?! damn you are really getting to me...your tone is very strong and it sounds as though you are annoyed at every possible thing. Can you not sound mad at everything please? I am really stressed out this month from dealing with you.

The Core Augur11/12/2014, 10:53:12 PM3 votes

... YORDLE LAND?

Bandle City, yo.

ElementLlama12/1/2014, 6:01:03 PM3 votes

I am going to try and host the December MCCC, if there is anyone willing to volunteer to help with judging please let me know. As a heads up, the theme will be "End of an Era", as this will be the last month before the new year and I'm not sure if I want to do anything about the holiday season with it yet.

Thanks all, GLHF

The Core Augur11/10/2014, 5:03:10 AM3 votes

I've been avoiding making a separate topic until I have Bereghost ready. If it's an immediate concern, I'll post it, though.

Moby the White11/28/2014, 4:18:34 AM2 votes

Half way done grading :)

Moby White11/29/2014, 4:06:37 AM2 votes

I just read a 3,828 word lore... I counted...O_O my eyes.

FuzzyPhatPanda12/20/2014, 2:41:05 PM2 votes

So I guess the rest of us aren't getting our judging results for our kits. I'm still waiting for mine... even if Moby could just look at it and let me know what he thinks or if he has Ramsay's results he could just post them. I'm sorry but it's just not fair to the rest of us who put in a bunch of time and effort in our concepts to just not get any feedback whatsoever on the slightly more important aspect of whether or not our champ could work in game.

Still Eternity11/11/2014, 12:16:36 AM2 votes

As far as I think regarding this issue of having a post created here on the boards, I think that we can reach a compromise.

As long as the post is created before the final day of character creation, it should be accepted. As Elp says, sometimes we as Champion Conceptors try an idea only to lose inspiration for it or want to make something completely different. This is natural.

Therefore, I come to the conclusion that teasers and general information is fine to qualify with and fine to leave in the main MCCC thread, but the final product must have it's own thread. When the last day of creation is over, those with their own threads pass, the rest fail. I feel like this is a fair compromise.

Nagirte11/17/2014, 8:33:47 PM2 votes

So I was just notified that I was scheduled for 5 12 hr shifts in a row at the end of this month so I might have to delay the in-depth descriptions for the contestants. I should be able to still get the scores and brief descriptions out on time and I promise that full critique will follow it just probably won't be simultaneous because I tend to spend at least and hour or two on each entry

Nagirte11/23/2014, 9:09:34 AM2 votes

So looking at our schedule. I might be able to actually get everything done on time since judging period begins on Monday and I don't have to work until Wednesday evening.

This means that I will probably be doing the majority of my judging on Monday and Tuesday. This also means that if you're gonna be a little late finishing every detail, do your best to get the most important stuff in/fixed first. No concept will ever be perfect, and I understand pressure to get it as close as you can to your original vision (I have this issue myself), but I also have obligations to work and family that I need to work around.

To (maybe) help people who are running a little late, I'll post up the reviews as I finish them instead of as a block. I wont post an order and may just pick concepts at random to judge first, because to do otherwise would give some an unfair time advantage. But once i post a judgement on your concept I can't really go back and rejudge it in good faith unless I am at fault for missing something. This doesn't mean I misunderstood it because the information needed was jumbled/not there. It means that I made a comment about the range being too long at it was like 100 units, or that the range/duration wasn't stated and it clearly was. This can happen occasionally because of how wordy some concepts get. But also don't try to take advantage of this by making your concept a wall of text. Formatting does wonders for my eyes/state of mind.

Moby the White11/24/2014, 6:13:48 PM2 votes

In regards to lore idc how short or long it is, it needs to satisfy the challenges and it needs to maintain my attention. if it is 3000 words long then it had better be amazing, if it is less than 250 it needs to captivate my attentiong while bringing the character to life.

I recommend between 250 and 1000 words, more than that and you are entering short story territory :P

Vbunnie11/25/2014, 3:23:39 AM2 votes

is december up yet? also where is the ccc at? are the two the same?

Moby the White11/25/2014, 4:01:10 PM2 votes

You have until the end of the day yes.

^this is me... :S

Nagirte11/26/2014, 9:36:18 AM2 votes

My original plan to start judging early got screwed over by the fact that I ended up having to do other things on my days off. And today I had a really shitty day and was in a terrible mood for most of it so I felt like the first few I judged I might be unfairly critical to.

I'll probably judge the first few tonight and hope to get them all finished on time, but like I said earlier I'm working the next 4-5 days so I might not be able to do it.

Moby White12/2/2014, 10:05:49 PM2 votes

DOllup: Lore: Only had a few major issues with this: the part where his father dies, the barbarian cuts the father's throat. Father then proceeds to give a long-winded speech. I mean most people will lose consciousness in around 10 seconds, and then from there die. Chances are the barbarian also cut his throat so this is less likely to occur more-so.

Also you mentioned that Dollup was never in danger, yet you said previously that he was being attacked by bandits. It seems as though they provoked the fight.

Also just a tip because I caught it. His father ran faster THAN Dollup, not faster then Dollup. The first insinuates that Father has a faster speed compared to his son, the second refers to the order of running: Father ran up the stairs and then Dollup ran up the stares after him. compared to: Father ran up the stares faster than his son Dollup.

I did like the extra challenge within the lore. He got out of a "sticky situation" however it was kind of on accident. :P

It's the 1st. Themes/Challenges, please?

Edit: I'd also reccomend having some sort of image, too. Or gif. Or something.

Wait, so the lore judgment was the first test and you're out altogether if your lore isn't good?

Edit: actually it looks like judging was aborted after the first few concepts. :(
