Making supports interesting in League

With Riot finally investigating ways on how to improve the community's interest, as it is no secret the the lack of interest in the support role is the entire reason for long queue times. But why? The answer is simple, Support is... boring. (No offense to support mains or rioters that worked on support champions) However the role simply isn't as appealing as others in the game. Especially when champs such as Sona Soraka and Janna are the first that come to mind. These are relatively passive champions, one trick assassin mains don't want to play these kinds of champions, top lane bruiser mains hate that they have to resort to tank supports just because enchanters are to squishy. Also these are all female champions, the role has become stereotyped as the group of players that aren't trusted and their friends forced the role onto them or the role that female players associate themselves with, and this is bad. I'm not saying we need more tanks, but maybe we need more male champions in the role, that aren't tanks. Zilean simply isn't very appealing to the majority of the player base that play AD champions. For example Overwatch is a very successful game with few similarities to league and those of you familiar with the game would know of a hero by the name of Ana, a SNIPER SUPPORT character, how cool is that. The play style of widowmaker with the mechanics of a mercy, and in my opinion league needs some of this, it should not be that every enchanter is a mage of some sort, why can't we have a support with the play style of an assassin for a change. Notice my choice of words "play style, not damage output". For example, with Sona she is a musician yet in game her play style is so unattractive, she pushes keys and she enchants her allies in an AoE effect, literally her Q W and E are just re-colours of each other, with her only skill shot being her ult which is just and AoE stun slapped onto her kit, in my opinion Sona should make the player feel as though they were playing her instrument, combo'ing her abilities and chaining their effects rather than just using them whenever they are up, just because. Also why the hell does the itemitem 3107 exist and isn't Soraka reworked ult??? Hopefully, this is the direction Riot takes and maybe sometime next year of the following we see and appropriate roster update or champion releases to help improve community interest in the role. Hell a rioter went as far as to say that changing the name of the role may even see improvement in ten player base's interest.

Would love to hear opinions on how the support role would be of more interest to you as a player.
