Lamb looked down into the dark well, while Wolf hovered around her head, confused.

“Why are we here, little Lamb?” he asked, impatient.

“We must prevent an aberration” she answered, indifferent.

“Another soul trying to escape us?” Wolf said with a slight chuckle. “You know they can’t escape me”

“No” said Lamb, turning to him. “Something far worse. Something… not from this land”

The well was dark, and a thin layer of smoke had formed on its surface.

Wolf plunged his eyes into the darkness below.

“What magic resides in here?”

“Powerful, ancient magic, designed to trap an ancient being” said Lamb, directing her sight to a point inside the artefact.

“Are we going to take this being?” interrogated Wolf.

“No, we cannot do that, at least not in this state” answered Lamb.

“Then, I am confused, why are we here?”

Wolf sounded more puzzled by the second.

Lamb could feel it, and turned to him.

“Mortality is a fate none in this land can escape, yet fate has its sight directed to the bottom of this well. A mortal… two mortals, one of them within our grasp, and an immortal; An unnatural union, and a foul offspring. We are here to prevent such a being from becoming flesh, For if it did, it could overpower us.”

“I see” said Wolf, thoughtful. “Dear Lamb, I understand your concern, but it is not our duty to change fate. If it has been sealed, we can only wait for time to unravel the events. And forever remember that, wherever there is life, Kindred follows. None can overpower us while the breath of mortals still draws, And when there isn’t any more life, yes, we shall meet our end, but we shall meet it as Lamb and Wolf, opposite, yet forever intertwined.”

Lamb looked at Wolf with an interrogative expression.

“You are very wise, dear Wolf; I forget that sometimes” said Lamb, and in her voice one could have recognised… sadness? No, sympathy. “Very well. The threads of fate have been casted. Come now, dear friend, we should leave now”

And as silent as air, Kindred left.

At the entrance of the Ionian temple, Val carried a mortally wounded Kai.

He would save him, no matter the cost.
