A tip for anyone doing a champion concept

Ask yourself "Would I like to play against this champ or be forced to ban it 100% of the time?" Ask yourself "What would I do if I had to face this champ to win/survive if the other guy plays him perfectly? Is there any way this champ could be beaten?" Try to figure things out from the other guy's perspective.

If you insist on adding numbers to your champion's kit, try imagining laning against him if he tried to run certain builds. What would that champ be like at 40% CDR? What would happen if he went full tank or glass cannon? What would his numbers be compared to one of the guys who had to go up against him. What would his numbers be compared to a champ in a similar role? How does your champ's damage or CC compare to a champ you hate laning against or you think is broken?

Does your champ have a stronger poke than a pre-rework Nidalee with the same build? If so, you've probably screwed something up. Is his key skill more annoying to play against than a teemo shroom? If so, you've probably screwed something up. How do his powers scale? If someone maxed one skill first, what would he look like at level 7-8 or whatever with that maxed skill and maybe a rushed item? Would that be any fun to play against at that level?

I'm working on a concept myself (a midlane battlemage based on pre-nerf soraka) and one thing I've been trying to keep aware of is that I'd want to be able to play that champ as much as possible (ie not a pick/ban champ) and I wouldn't want to dread playing against that champ if someone else picked him. While this is making the idea more difficult for me to finish so I can post it, it's also forcing me to make a better idea. It's also making me appreciate some of the things riot is probably going through to make or rework champs.

I saw that you had aswered almost every new champio concept, that was posted here. Including my own. And when I do a champion concept, I try to make the champion to fit with the lore and the skills to the champion. To try to not make that champion broken I had some weaknesses, so he/she is vunerable in some points, but strong in other. You have commented about my concept for; Ayanna, the unseelie fairy, I thank you for it. And if you see any changes that should had to be changed tell me. Howver not only you can give a few ideas to change it but also other people can do it. With the numbers sometimes I fogot to think a little more, then I do it to OP. It happens sometimes. ^^' Anyways, thank you for your advice, I will take it for the next champion concept I will made.^^

Edit: I hope you didn't do that thread because of my champion concept I made.^^'

One thing I see people do in a champion concept every once in a while is have the kit work against itself, such as:

  • If the skill doesn't go perfectly, your health/stats go down.

  • Having direct tradeoffs (health usually) for an ability's strength, one of the reasons I hate health resource champions. They also sometimes tack on stuff like self-silence occasionally.

  • Debuffing or hurting allied champions, why in the world would that be useful?

I'm not saying you shouldn't explore new possibilities in a kit, but you need to make sure it runs cohesively with itself.

If you have crippling mana costs, how does that affect how the rest of the kit functions? You can't think of abilities in a vacuum, they are constantly interacting with other champions and themselves.

You make some good points, though they are mostly aimed at numbers. Exact numbers can always be tweaked, but I prefer to look deeper into the basic design philosophy that a kit contains, what issues lie within and how that doesn't work out too well.

Either way, it's always good to take a step back and look at everything with a fresh perspective, making sure everything falls in place well. Also doesn't hurt to fix typos where you have an ability that does 500/550/600/650/700 **magic damage **:P

Thank you! Too many champion concepts I've seen started at "You know it would be cool if X ability(s) existed..." and ended with "Now what about lore?"

The whole point of a champion concept is that you think of every aspect of it, not just the cool parts.

I will be keeping an eye out for yours.

I've been thinking about a demacian outcast champion who went to noxus and lived there, but i don't know how to make a perfect balance of demacia and noxus in her kit.

Overall I'd also say that you should ask yourself what is the general theme of your champ. I see many people doing champions who are just different versions of already existing champions.

But thats not how champs are done ingame,as a rioter once said(I think it was Ironstylus),they try to cover different "fantasies" with each champ, which is why for example Vladimir will remain the only hemomancer in the game,or Vel'koz will remain the only beholder, etc.

i explain my last comment:

You can suggest new ideas for designing new champions. And i think, RIOT encourage that.

However all of us post ideas, ratios just inform and detail your idea. So to debate about them is totaly useless because we are not conceptor, we are not pro designer, and champions have to be checked !!!

I post "champion concept" as i want, and i dont need your tips (or others) (no offense)

See you, enjoy the game, and dont forget to have fun (IT S A GAME!)
