Warring Kingdoms Nidalee Skin Tone Change

In today's PBE (1/16) it was announced that Nidalee got a skin tone change, going from pale to tan. I'd like to know why such a drastic change to her skin color, considering there wasn't much negative feedback about her previous skin tone (I can only recall one comment about it). I understand that her original skin tone is tan and it could be the reason why the WK was edited, to keep the original skin tone. But, her skin color was always diverse on her skins. For example, Pharaoh Nidalee is tanner than the original, while Snowbunny, Leopard and Headhunter Nidalee are lighter. By the way, I still love this skin so much and I enjoy both skin tones. http://www.lolnews247.com/wp-content/uploads/Warring-Kingdoms-Nidalee-skin-spotlight.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b92m2QchtgI/VLnEWXaMYJI/AAAAAAAAh5U/ji7bS_guAak/s1600/niddy.jpg

PS: this thread's purpose is not about racial discussion, I'm just legitimately curious about why the Warring Kingdoms' skin tone was edited when it was never an issue with Nidalee.

Basically: We want to try and keep to some of base Nidalee's themes keep with her tanner skin identity more. There are always going to be arguments "Not all Chinese/oriental people are tan/pale!" and differing preferences in this case. Nidalee is Nidalee and is from the Kumungu Jungle, as there isn't any "oriental" race in Runeterra :) Her skin tone on her older model is actually more pink than the "burnished asian olive" skin tone (especially on the back). I can't speak for her older skins as, well, they're pretty old :x They were made during the first 1-1.5 years of LoL's infancy and our standards have been better defined since then. Nidalee

Not needing to be racist but it just seems that the ligher color skin looks better in my opinion. (I'm not trying to be racist)

Would have bought the skin with the lighter color, but tanned doesn't look very nice imo.

With all due respect Riot Nurse Flan, This new Nidalee skin tone for this particular new skin just doesn't fit at all it just the combination of her armor and the fact that you can barely see the tattoo is a bit of an eye sore. This has nothing to do with "racism" or anything I'm just saying this particular skin isn't the one for the new skin tone.

Maybe the next skin can be the proper one and have it the way you want it? Cuz like what the other person says, it's our money that pays you.

It used to have a nice contrast and looked like red with pale skin, now it just looks like brown with brown. I don't see anything wrong with giving Chinese-colored skin to a Chinese based skin.

I was planning on getting the skin, but now it looks a little plain. She reminded me of those warrior women on Avatar: The Last Airbender in a way, but now she reminds me of Nikki Minaj in one of her music videos

Hey, I find it weird they changed her skin too, honestly I don't understand why. If they're trying to maintain consistency, why is Snow Bunny Nidalee, Leapord Nidalee, and Headhunter Nidalee all paler than her original model? Why didn't they change those skin tones but change Warring Kingdoms Nidalee? I don't think the tanner Nidalee works on this specific skin...her skin and her outfit look like one same shade, and nothing pops out anymore aside her from her blue/white cuff that now looks really off because it only had her paler skin to match with. For example, Pharoah Nidalee's skin looks gorgeous with the gold and white outfit combo and darker skin, she would look really bad if they had made her skin light. But for Wk Nidalee the tanner skin and her outfit don't match well imo :(

Also Riot Nurse, to add "evidence" and to support my arguement, here's some quotes that was upvoted quite a lot in surrenderat20 when the news of the new nidalee skin color came out. That's a lot of disappointment and money staying in pockets.

"Hey Moobeat, I was wondering why did they change Nidalee's skin tone? A lot of her skins like Snow bunny Nidalee, Bewitching Nidalee and Headhunter Nidalee her skin looks pale in comparison to her original model. Why the change? How come her skin is not consistent to all her other skins? I personally feel her paler skin made her pop out, now her skin blends in with her outfit..."

"Yeah, it used to look like red with pale skin, now it just looks like brown with brown. I don't see anything wrong with giving Chinese-colored skin to a Chinese based skin.

"I too think to avatar, when I first saw the skin, I was happy but now Idk I don't like the skin that much, it's because her skin do not fit to her skin tone."

"Yeah, I guess it's just my preference since I like how it contrasts with the red armor and how it reminds me of Avatar.

I really wanted the skin before, but now I'm not sure if I still want it. I just don't see anything wrong with leaving it how she was before"

"I was wondering the same thing. I like the paler tone better. It stands out against her armor, and I think she matches her cougar form better. I was was waiting for this skin... now it's just "blah" to me. I went and bought RP just for this skin. Unless it changes back, I think I may just wait for the next batch of skins to be released and pray there is something I actually like."

"Same, when I first saw the skin I was so hyped. It's one of the prettiest ones I've seen in Lunar Revel. I honestly couldn't wait for February. This isn't a matter of that the tan skin is unattractive (original Nidalee is gorgeous), it's just the colors of her outfit and now her darker skin are blending in too much together...and it just really looks flat now. The pale skin really made it pop. I hope they go with a between skin tone to satisfy the people who like her darker, and those who like her just a bit brighter so everyone can enjoy this beautiful skin. I'd prefer the original pale but who knows."

When I first saw this skin, my first thought was "she needs to be a bit darker" but I had headhunter nidalee or maid nidalee skin tone in mind, I love either one for her. I think they should have chose one of those two or change it a bit because it blends in too much with the clothes especially the gold part imo. Even though I'd much prefer this skin color than the original, the first is too light :(

Honestly I don't have a problem with the new skin tone. But I think the lighter skin tone was better because it shows off the outfit better and the darker skin tone blends in with the outfit too much

It's probably because the previous version had two skin tones, one much darker on the back, one much lighter on the front, and a very visible seam under her shoulders.

They probably went with the darker tone just to avoid doing so much work. It's entirely poossible that the two-tone effect was caused mostly by apparent shadows.

In any event, it looks fine and they don't have to explain the choice of a darker skin tone, and certainly don't have to apologize for it.

as long as she stripper rides her javelin, what difference does her skin tone make? jk

Nicktoons1/17/2015, 8:31:00 PM2 votes

Why don't you guys just make her skin color the same as the default, she already has like 3 skins that change her skin color.

MrBuffington1/17/2015, 4:30:08 AM2 votes

Just went through the game models; you're correct that there are some inconsistencies with her skin tone, but none looked nearly as pale as the old WK skin (Snow Bunny comes kind of close, but the splash for that skin has a darker skin tone). My guess is that they want to maintain some level of consistency/avoid straying too far from her base skin (heck, they might go back and recolor the rest of her skins).

It's an eastern themed skin it's suppose to have a darker skin tone?
