Champion Concept: Groncle, the King of the Jungle

Edit 1. W no longer slows!

"I wasn't born to this duty, but someone has to do it." Groncle is a slow but impactful juggernaut designed for the live in the jungle. Summoning neutral epic monsters that bring buffs for their killers, he is a farm-heavy jungler taken to the extreme. And while he slams people just with his staff, don't be fooled -- the Heart of the World fights on his side.

#MONSTERS' ABILITIES Rumblehorn Ability: Rumbling Charge Cooldown: 4 seconds Range: 750 units After a 1.5 second channel, Rumblehorn will start charging towards the nearest enemy champion, becoming unstoppable and knocking up all units in its way for 1.5 seconds and dealing 150-600 damage (based on its level). If Rumblehorn impacts with a terrain, the charge will be stopped and Rumblehorn will be stunned for 2.5 seconds. During this time, Rumblehorn will take extra 5% of his max health in true damage from basic attacks.

Kindlejack Innate: Siphon Instead of regurarily attacking, Kindlejack drains its target's health over time, dealing between flat 150-350 to 8-16% of the target's maximum health (based on its level) [based on greater amount] in magic damage every second. Deals -15% damage for each nearby champion (down to -60%).

Croatan Innate: Tough Skin If the Croatan hasn't been killed within 4 seconds after it started the compat, it will be massively healed (100% of the damage taken within the last 4 seconds).

#INTRODUCTION Hey folks,

I think it's time to give life to my latest champion: Groncle. He is a tanky juggernaut who was built around spawning his own jungle monsters and fighting them. That was originally Udyr's rework, but I thought the idea was really crazy and interesting, so I created Groncle and tried to make it work. His kit is really basic (juggernauts/fighters are hard to make unique) but it's probably one of my most favorite kits I've ever created, so I hope you like it. Fun fact: His first kit consisted no active abilities (they all spawned different monsters) which he had to kill to gain bonuses for his basic attacks. That was horrible.

You can find there concepts for (almost) every subclass you want to find inspiration for as an example. I am very proud of my work on concepts so I think you should definently look out for them when you have time!

#GAMEPLAY Groncle's early game is basically farming until his passive, King of Beasts, can be activated. Once his lures are placed, he can ask an ally to help him on his guest to kill the mighty beast. All players in a game with Groncle should know the basics of the monsters' buffs; Crest of Rumblehorn's Wrath is mainly for tanky pushers, Gift of the Kindlejack is mainly for autoattacking fighters/marksmen and Grace of the Void for mages/assasins who like to just blow everything that's off cooldown. He can take it all for himself, he of course benefits too from the bonuses, or for a nearby ally who benefits better. The monsters are tanky and will fight back, but his passive healing will grant him sustain against them. The monsters will show in enemies' minimap, too! If they kill Groncle before he kills the monsters, they can take an easy buff for themselves. Then there are his ganks. For start, he can use his Mourning Forest to ~~slow the foe down ~~and stagger it with his next basic attack. The enemies will try to escape, but a well-used Tomb of Roots will help him stick on the helpless foe and help him get the good old third hit of his Q. Once he's used everything, he will need the ally's crowd control or he can use his Grasping Flourish to make sure the enemy will not go anywhere. Remember, Beastial Wrath can be affected by Gift of the Kindlejack to deal even more damage with the third hit burst.

#KIT (WITH NUMBERS) King of Beasts Passive Cooldown: 120 seconds Description: Every once in a while Groncle gets a chance to set down a lure into the river. All buffs' duration: 90 seconds. RUMBLEHORN STATS: Health: 8000 Attack damage: 77 Attack speed: 0.8 Range: 225 Armor: 60 MR: 40 KINDLEJACK STATS Health: 6000 (+250 per level) Attack damage: Innate: Siphon Attack speed: 1.0 Range: 400 Armor: 20-60 (based on its level) MR: 60-120 (based on its level) CROATAN STATS Health: 2700 (+90 per level) Attack damage: 50 Attack speed: 1.97 Range: 175 Armor: 51-120 (based on level) MR: 19-44 (based on level)

Next attack against the target stuns them from .5 to 1.5 seconds, based on how long they had been crippled (duration increases over the first 1 second.)

Tomb of Roots E Cooldown: 24/21/18/15/12 seconds Mana cost: 80 Range x width: 475 x 200 units Description: Groncle rises a wall of roots around target area for 3 seconds, leaving one passable path at the location where it was cast.

Grasping Flourish R Cooldown: 140/120/100 seconds Mana cost: 100 Range: 500 units Description: Groncle rises 3 roots from the ground which latch onto an enemy, rooting it for up to 3 seconds. #LORE Groncle Logstomp, known to many as the King of the Jungle, is a peculiar aspect of Heart of the World, who lives in the Kumungu with his people. Centuries ago, Groncle roamed his jungle, protecting the life wherever he goes, and challenging the creatures with most power. However now that almost all of the creatures are imblued with the spirit tree's magical essence, he must bring balance to the jungle and take the essence back to the Heart of the World.

Groncle is one of the species known as the Cirat, the dominating species of the Kumungu jungles that protect and hunt the species of the jungle. The cirat are leaded by the forest's will, the Heart of the World, a spirit tree in the middle of the forest which blesses the forest's animals with magneficent powers that will transfer to their slayers. And while it mostly chooses larger creatures like croatans, rumblehorns or kindlejacks, it will someday also bless smaller creatures like gromps or rarely even poros.

His people's religion states that the most strongest can challenge blessed creatures and get their power to themselves. This isn't a simple task, however. They must work in groups and outsmart the enormous monsters that rule their parts of the jungle, and the group's leader will get the creature's magical blessing and the land the creature has claimed over the years. One hunt even against a kindlejack may cost many lives and usually is a long hunt with no kill.

Groncle had always dreamed of killing a blessed beast and getting honor in his clan, the Logstomp clan. The clan of Logstomp was the largest most influential clan there was, and Groncle was proud of being one of them. Due to his unusual blue fur tone, he never quite fit in and he wasn't a huge help in most ambushes because most animals could see him through brown and green. However, he was great at planning the attacks and attacking with his group due to his strong will and his strong body.

When Groncle heard of the giant Rumblehorn wandering the jungle and destroying other clans' villages, many people of his clan were going to challenge the monster and claim its bounty. Though he was uncertain on should he go risk his life to beat a creature so massive, but the elders of the village encouraged him to go, so he went.

#The Hunt

Groncle's group consisted 8 other people and he was in lead. Trees were down, there was bodies of other cirat, the destruction was massive. It didn't last long until the group heard the rumblehorn's voice, far from the village. He was first to climp up a tree to scout the forest, and he saw the rumblehorn sleeping in far away. It was late night, so they went to chase the beast before it wakes up.

After about an hour of searching, they saw the rumblehorn's nest. It was still sleeping, and as they surrounded it, it woke up and saw them. The group member named Grump distracted the beast in a try to make it charge at the wall, but the beast was so incredibly fast it almost hit him. The beast's massive body was stuck in the wall, and as it struggled to get out Groncle's team attacked. Their arrows were mitigated by the rumblehorn's armor and no spear could pass it either. Its only weak spot was below its belly and it wasn't an easy task to hit it in there. The rumblehorn soon got out of the wall and it started attcking the group. Its charge also hit Groncle, tainting him shortly.

When Groncle woke up, he woke on a tree near the rumblehorn's nest. The sun has already risen, and there were only 3 other people on the tree with him. Other members were seemingly deceased. The rumblehorn was looking for them, but Groncle had a plan. After he explained it to his teammembers, they knew what to do and waited until the beast will begin to rest.

While the beast was still searching for them, they were creating huge traps for the giant rumblehorn -- trees that would smash it against the wall/squish it between them, and huge springtraps that would turn the rumblehorn around to reveal its weak spot.

The night was young, and Groncle distracted the beast to follow him into the forest. The rumblehorn charged towards him but he focused his strength in his feet to jump on the beast's back. While it was trying to slow down a giant tree slammed rumblehorn against the mountain and made cracks to its shell.

The beast quickly woke up and charged at Groncle again, but now got squished between two logs that also weakened it. Now that the rumblehorn was tired, it charged again; this time on the springtraps that turned the beast around. Now that its belly was shown, all 4 striked down at its stomach and the beast got finally killed.

Groncle was ready to take the creature's essence, but the essence was incredibly strong. So strong in fact that Groncle couldn't control it and he released a huge shockwave across the jungle. It cut many trees and caused a disturbance at the Spirit Tree, causing it to bless almost every beast in the jungle that was alive.

Groncle understood the situation and he knew what to do: he will bring balance to the jungle, and gather the essence back to the Heart of the World.

I'll be back soon to answer your questions. In the meantime, let me know what do you think about Groncle below!

Pretty cool but his subtitle is too similar to Ivern's them and all. Also, his E is kinda boring. Love the passive! He's got a crap ton of CC tho.

Interesting concept, though there are a few things that concern me.

First, one of the passive monsters buffs. The Croatan. Before I say anything let me make sure I get this straight using the first line of the description: This units (I'm assuming you mean whoever has the buff?) abilities or basic attacks modified by abilities apply a stack of Consuming Void (so anytime an enemy is hit with an ability or basic attack buffed by an ability even if it is passive?).

Now, if I have that correct then this would be truly powerful on a few champions with passives that enhance their basics. Varus is one. Jinx is another. Ashe is another. Pretty much a lot of marksmen who focus on attack speed (Jinx), Slows and Crits (Ashe), enhanced damage (Varus's W), Vayne's Silver Bolts.

Since these are all passives and enhance their basics with added effects that would mean that each basic attack would apply a stack of Consuming Void...which stacks infinitely. Meaning that you can kite like a mofo (if you haven't killed them already) and stack a lot then decide "Ok, I'm done" and let the stacks do the rest. I can just see a Jinx with low damage abusing her Q's attack speed (since it enhances/modifies her basic attacks) to apply a lot of these stacks to do insane damage when she decides to stop attack and move away. Afterwards there's literally no counter to those stacks except maybe to hourglass it or some kind of invulnerability.

Let's say at lvl 18 she has 300 AD and stacks like 5-10 times. That's 135 (+180 AD) x 5 or 10 for a grand total of 1575-3150. Granted, that's before MR (since it does magic damage) but still. That's a lot. Also granted, you should probably be able to kill most squishies at lvl 18 anyways as an ADC before even gaining those stacks, but put that against a tank? You wouldn't even need pen for them anymore. Just stack Consuming Void. Wouldn't even matter that they eat your damage (if they do anyways) because you apply those stacks and then back off for 3s well...they better have a shit ton of health and good MR or that's going to hurt.

Maybe it's just me though, but it seems really powerful. Especially on some champs who have passives that enhance their basic attacks who can just stack attack speed to abuse their passive which modifies their basic attack to get the most stacks out of the buff and then just let it do the work due to the infinite scaling.

Though again, correct me if I'm wrong on how these stacks apply, but I'm pretty sure that modified basic attacks from abilities include passives because it does modify the basic attacks.

Anyways, onto the other concern.

This one is mainly that he is pretty much a more buffed version of Trundle. I say this because when I was reading his kit I just kept thinking of how Trundle was the Slow and Sustain sort of person, plus the gaining movement speed while slowing enemies kinda thing.

Granted, how your champion applies everything is slightly different. Groncle heals on attacks whereas Trundle heals on ability. Groncle targets slows and gains movement speed whereas Trundle summons a pillar to slow and an area which increases his movement speed.

But it just feels like Groncle is Trundle's souped up cousin or something. Nothing wrong with that. Just a comparison I had, but it could just be me.

So my main concern is how he would just get tossed in with Trundle and not be able to distinguish himself even though the abilities are thematically different. They still play relatively the same role of heavy CC and Sustain tank/bruiser.

Not to mention I think the whole "LOL you're slowed, I'm fast, haha I caught you and now you're stunned" thing is a bit rude. I mean, just W into your E or E into your W and you're guaranteed to stun someone and follow it up with your Q to wail on them and heal yourself. And if you're in a bind just W your attacker and then Q to heal and wait on them. Just so much unfun CC coupled with Sustain.

Plus, another thing...100% scaling. Really? He's a bruiser/tank. He has high as hell CC already. 3 abilities with high CC. W has slow PLUS stun. E has slow PLUS damage AND 100% scaling with no counter if you're within its AoE (since it's a roar and I'm sure can't be blocked by walls). R has a Root that I'm not sure if it's targeted or automatic/random to anyone in the area. So also hard to counter. Give this guy his Grace of the Void buff and my god...

Point is. 100% scaling on tank like champions needs to stop imo. They already have high as hell CC and usually high survivability. Same with True Damage on tanks/bruisers. They have the tanking capabilities, damage, and sustains. They don't need damage that you can't protect yourself from. Looking at you Garen and Darius. >.> Not to mention soooo many people abuse the natural tankiness of Malphite and Blitzcrank and just abuse their 100% scalings for high damage. But, I digress. These are just my concerns and for all I know Groncle could very well be completely different if put into play.

Another thing is the sustain on this dude. 15% missing health every 4s coupled with other life steal effects PLUS the active does bonus damage to attacks which allow even MORE healing. Gotta say I'm feeling Vlad would have nothing on this guys Q. Granted the missing health with get less as he heals, but still. Let's say he has 3000 health. He's down to 1500 (half). 4s he hits someone and BAM heals for 225 (15% of the missing 1500 health) plus whatever he heals from his lifesteal or anything that increases heals.

Just imagine this guy with Bloodthirster, Blade of the Ruined King, and Hydra. Sustain out the ass PLUS 15% missing health every 4s as well on attack so even if someone was damaging him he'd heal 15% of the damage done from those attacks (if he was attacked from full health) while still healing from his own Lifesteal. Couple it with Spirit Visage and ooh boy do you have a lot of sustain. Like hot damn.

So, overall, interesting concept. Just a few concerns that I have which might make him a wee bit OP. Mainly his High Sustain, High CC, High Buff possible buff damage from Croatan, 100% scaling on a direction AoE on a bruiser like champion so I'm sure he'll be naturally tanky and that could be abused to allow damage to be pumped for that 100% scaling.

But still. I see you worked hard on this and that makes me happy to see people pour a lot into these concepts always coming up with unique and interesting things. I don't mean to make it sound like I'm hating the concept. These are just my opinions on what I think might be a bit too strong/are concerns. Take what you will, but keep on the good work!

I got to say this is interesting. Passive is pretty unique but I will say that some of the monsters stats seem a bit high, at least in terms of health. Also the Croaton's ability is a bit weird. It deals more damage per stack but then also heals them? Passive on Q could seem a bit annoying to deal with, maybe raise the cooldown just a tad bit like one second. W seems good though. E is suppose to be a wall right? I'm just asking because reading over it I though it created a box instead and it's called "tomb of roots". R is fairly similar to Varus' so be a bit careful with that but otherwise seems cool.

Keep up toe good work. :)

He has a lot of CC for a juggernaut and I am a bit sceptical about his passive, but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.
