Cecil, the Lost Adventurer (Ezreal's Father)

In Ezreal's updated lore, his parents are missing but not confirmed dead and his gauntlet is mentioned as having a twin that was already excavated. I think this presents an awesome opportunity for a new champion - his father.

Cecil was a trader from Piltover specializing in exotic goods and relics, so he and his wife Helen traveled far and often, leaving their son Ezreal in Piltover with his uncle.

Tempting danger just one too many times, disaster struck during the couple's expedition to Shurima in search of the stone of Ne'Zuk. They found a pair of bronze gauntlets, but as they made their way out of the tomb a horde of mummified slaves poured into the central chamber. In the ensuing struggle, Cecil and Helen repelled wave after wave of mummies, Helen with the left-hand gauntlet and Cecil with the right. They had nearly made it out of the chamber and into a hallway when a giant stone falling nearby knocked Helen off balance. She tumbled to the ground, leaving the couple's left flank uncovered. The mummies swarmed her, single mindedly focused on her gauntlet, so she abandoned it and the couple bolted for the exit.

Once back in the open air of the desert, they greeted the tribesmen that they had taken on as guides for the expedition and began to make their way back to Nashramae. While en route, a sandstorm struck the group. While they attempted to wait out the storm, a war party from a rival tribe hostile to that of their guides came upon them and ambushed them. After a short and brutal skirmish, The couple escaped but Helen had been severely wounded and all of their guides killed. They were forced to flee back further into the desert to escape the fierce war party.

Eventually they came upon a friendly tribe who took them in and nursed Helen's wounds. Helen was stabilized, but her injuries left her unable to travel. Helen and Cecil remained with the hospitable tribe for a few years, taking in centuries of Shuriman lore and learning about local mysticisms and magics. Eventually the crippled Helen died relatively peacefully, and Cecil decided to make his way back to Piltover with the gauntlet.

After a long journey to Nashramae and then to Piltover, Cecil knocked on his brother's door and was met with the absolutely incredulous face of Professor Lymere. The two embraced, and Lymere told Cecil that Ezreal was currently off in some jungle and should be back in Piltover within a few weeks.

When Ezreal finally returned, his excitement at seeing his father was immeasurable. Cecil was glad to see his son, but scolded him for abandoning his studies and putting himself in so much danger. The family remained in Piltover for a few months, catching up on the goings-on and reuniting with old friends, but father and son both eventually grew restless. Hearing of Ezreal's exploits, Cecil grew to respect his son's capability as an explorer. Each armed with one of Ne'Zuk's gauntlets, the daring pair set out on a new adventure.

In-game, Cecil would be a support, but I can't decide if he'd be more fun as a tank or as a roaming merchant mage so I've thought up two different kits for him. I have no artistic skill but visually he would be based on Victorian era British explorers, so he'd look something like this:

The sideburns are very important, of course, though his hair would probably be a lighter color.

He would be armed with a gauntlet similar to Ezreal's in his right hand, and would have a grappling/climbing hook in his right hand

Kit 1: Tanky Support

  • His basic attacks are melee, using his climbing hook.

  • Passive: Arcane Equilibrium

  • Cecil gains a portion of his bonus mana as health.

  • Q: Mystic Shock

  • Passively, Cecil gains a shield when this ability is not on cooldown. Actively, he fires a shockwave of energy from his gauntlet in a small cone in front of him that stuns enemies hit.

  • W: Catch and Release

  • Cecil catches an incoming (non-autoattack) projectile with his gauntlet, taking reduced damage from the ability. He can reactivate to fire that projectile, either as a skillshot or point and click depending on the original ability.

  • E: Get a Move On

  • Cecil propels himself forward with a blast of energy from his gauntlet. If he targets an ally champion, he carries his ally with him and his dash range is increased

  • R: Wrangle

  • Cecil throws his grappling hook in a line. If he hits an enemy, he pulls himself to them, they are tied up, and cannot attack or cast for a brief period. Like a Lulu polymorph but stronger/longer/as a skillshot

Kit 2: Mobile Mage

  • His basic attacks are ranged, using his gauntlet.

  • Passive: Relic Hunter. relics spawn around the map. Picking up these relics gives Cecil gold and experience. Gold and Experience values increase slightly every time Cecil levels up.

  • Q: Relay Bolt

  • Cecil empowers the next basic attack of himself or an ally, dealing bonus magic damage. (I'm wondering if this should also slow them or apply on-hit effects. It would be really cool but maybe hard to balance.)

  • W: Take Aim!

  • Cecil uses his gauntlet to open a magical gate. Projectiles fired through this gate by allies gain bonus range and speed while those fired by enemies are slowed down and lose some range. Allied basic attacks do a little extra magic damage instead of the speed and range bonus (unless Riot can figure out how to increase auto range in just one direction, then maybe they can try it)

  • E: Jungle Express

    • On first cast, Cecil throws his grappling hook. If he hits an allied champion, they are tethered together until Cecil recasts E. Both champions gain passive movement speed while tethered. If an ally whom Cecil is tethered to uses a dash, blink, jump, etc, Cecil is dragged with them all the way to their landing location. Recasting E pulls Cecil to his ally regardless of if or when he has been pulled to one of their dashes, but after this cast the tether effect ends.
  • If he hits an enemy champion, he roots them for a short time. If he does not recast during the root, then he is tethered to that champion and steals a small portion of their movement speed. On recast, he pulls the tethered enemy champion towards him.

  • If he hits terrain, he can recast to pull himself to that terrain. Upon reaching that terrain, he performs a rebound leap in a chosen direction (Think Camille's hookshot but much shorter range on second cast. Essentially just enough range to get over smaller jungle walls)

I have 2 ideas for Cecil's ult, let me know which you think fits better.

  • R (Version 1): Cartography Passive: Cecil's ward cap is increased to 4 at level 6, then to 5 at level 11. Pink Wards Cecil places are camouflaged and are only revealed by red trinket/duskblade/vision plant/etc.

  • Active: On first cast, Cecil reveals the map in a giant cone in front of him. On second cast, he fires a targeted cluster of homing bolts at an enemy that damage and slow them, leaving behind a trail which gives all allies a large movement speed boost when on it.

  • R (Version 2): Merchant Magics Passive: Cecil's allies can go into debt to buy items. The amount of debt that can be accrued scales with Cecil's level and stacks with Future Market.

  • Active: Cecil fires a large blast of avarice from his gauntlet, stealing gold from enemies hit and permanently slightly increasing his allies' debt cap for each enemy hit

Please feel free to suggest changes, or to suggest anything really. I think it would be really cool to see another champion "pair" in league. Actually as far as I can recall right now, this would be the first child/parent pair (except Azir and Sivir, kinda).

As great as some of these concepts are, that vision ultimate could be absolutely gamechanging and break everything. I do like the tanky support version a bit more.

awesome idea. Ult seems hard to balance though.

This needs to be seen by many more people. I want more lore in my league, and to have someone's father in the game is just crazy. Your ideas for his kit are good and can be tweaked if needed. But ultimately, Cecil needs a reason to be in the League in the first place, it doesn't seem like he'd be the type to fight in a slaughterfest arena unless there was something that benefits him.
