Name: Gabriel \ The Forgotten Gender: Male \ Sexless Race: Human \ Bound God Allegiance: Independent \ Holder of the Tome Alignment: Chaotic Good \ True Neutral Class: Hybrid Control/Battle Mage Role: Mid

Gabriel is a powerful and unique control mage who establishes large zones of control alongside a powerful spirit trapped within his tome. Lacking any abilities of his own, Gabriel instead relies on the Forgotten to punish enemies who dare to approach him. What he lacks in flexibility and roaming he makes up for in destructive AoE damage and displacement that tears apart all but the most coordinated of teams. Gabriel extablishes dominance in a lane that cannot creatively punish his innate vulnerability amongst the swinging fists of the Forgotten, and his ability to damage structures grants him the option to quickly demolish a lane if left to his own devices.

#ABILITIES

http://i.imgur.com/RMb4eaC.png ##Ability Notes:

  • This is the basis of Gabriel's entire kit - without the Forgotten he is a squishy melee champion with no abilities. The Forgotten occupies a set circular space as impassable terrain but can be targeted by attacks from enemies. The Forgotten is treated as an epic monster and cannot be crowd-controlled. His width is a little smaller than Ryze's portal and he stands about as tall as Baron. The Forgotten can be killed and forced to despawn, but is very tanky and it is better to focus on killing Gabriel, as that will effectively kill them both.
  • The Forgotten has two vision areas. Firstly, it grants sight in a 1300-radius circle around himself (excluding brush, stealth, etc.). The Forgotten also always faces in a direction, and in the direction it faces it will grant sight for an additional 350 units, for a total of 1650 units of sight. The Forgotten can change which direction it faces when Gabriel casts Q, E, and/or R. Gabriel can only cast spells so long as he remains within either of these fields, and loses the Forgotten's granted sight if he strays from them.
  • Gabriel visibly holds his Tome when the Forgotten is despawned, and is without it while the Forgotten is active. The Tome is visible beneath and within the Forgotten to Gabriel only and he can at any time close it to despawn the Forgotten early.
  • The Forgotten does not necesarily despawn upon Gabriel taking fatal damage. If he is under the effects of Chronoshift or Guardian Angel upon death, then it will remain until he respawns.
  • The Forgotten is invulnerable while spawning and despawning.
  • Towers will prioritize the Forgotten above all else.

http://i.imgur.com/4QwPS9S.png ##Ability Notes:

  • As the Forgotten winds up for all of its abilities, its eyes will always flash gold to indicate it is about to strike.
  • A shadow is clearly visible where the Forgotten's hand will strike.
  • This ability's passive scales with cooldown reduction in the same vein of Taric's innate - while at 0% CDR Gabriel's cooldowns are reduced by 3 seconds upon striking an enemy champion or structure while he is within the Forgotten's direct line of sight. However, once he reaches 45% CDR, his abilities will only be reduced by 2.28 seconds. For every 5% CDR Gabriel has, he loses about 0.08 second from this passive. This encourages Gabriel to stand in front of the Forgotten and creatively combo his ability's to continously refresh his Q, which has a ~1 second cooldown at max CDR and rank should he be able to reliably land his abiities. It also gives enemies the chance to retaliate against Gabriel, instead of feeling helpless should he stand behind the Forgotten all day.

http://i.imgur.com/utzpzak.png ##Ability Notes:

  • This ability can only be casted perpendicular to the Forgotten in the direction it is facing, and so it is optimal to reposition it through Q or E first to shove enemies in the direction that you want.
  • A shadow is clearly visible where the Forgotten will rake its hand.
  • This ability has a minimum cast range, meaning it cannot be cast too close to the Forgotten itself. This range extends out from the epicenter of the Forgotten.
  • Enemies affected by the displacement of this ability are not technically considered to be airborne, and thus do not interact with Yasuo's Last Breath. However, the time in which the Forgotten takes to move its hand ( ~ 0.5 seconds) cannot be reduced by the respective tenacities of the targets struck.

http://i.imgur.com/1LsX2Ab.png ##Ability Notes:

  • A shadow is clearly visible where the Forgotten will perform the clap. The shadow is darker where enemies will be stunned.
  • This ability has a minimum cast range, meaning it cannot be cast too close to the Forgotten itself. This range extends out from the epicenter of the Forgotten.

http://i.imgur.com/ec1q5M6.png ##Ability Notes:

  • A shadow is clearly visible where the Forgotten will try to pick up an enemy champion. The pick-up range is very small, about the size of Karthus skittle, so you must either be very precise or rely on previous crowd control.
  • Disable-curing effects such as Ragnarok, Remove Scurvy, Cleanse, Quicksilver Sash, Unbreakable Will, Battle Roar, and Mikael's Crucible will cause the Forgotten to drop the champion, who will not take the damage. Allied champions who have been picked up can, after a brief lockout period, choose to be dropped prematurely.

Here is the Goocle Doc for the kit. I will do my best to keep the images updated with any changes I make, but otherwise please refer to the Doc for judging.

#LORE

Brought into the world wailing and screaming beneath the hot Shuriman sun, Gabriel has always known hardship. The vassal of a foolish Shuriman warlord's raucous band, his father was killed by a Xer'sai some years later, and his mother took ill with the Shuriman sun madness soon after. Eking out a life listening for the distinct sapient chatter of the Xer'sai and enduring the lashes of his quartermasters, Gabriel spent his days nursing his sickly mother and his nights praying to the hold gods for freedom.

All changed the day the band stopped their crawl to investigate a series of mysterious caverns, which the warlord believed to be a Xer'sai nest. "We'll finish them off once and for all!" he cried, as his men grabbed for their swords and spears. The warlord decreed that every man above the age of twelve would descend below, and he who brought him the head of the Xer'sai queen would achieve the highest honor. Gabriel, having never held a sword in his life, was swept along by the wave of men streaming into the caverns like insects.

It was dark in the caverns, and silent. Gabriel listened intently to the familiar clicks and screeches of the Xer'sai, but could near nothing but the cool silence of the caves. The men, armed with torches and folly, soon found themselves to be hopelessly lost. The men began to grumble, and the warlord feared for his control. When the men found themselves at a dead end, tensions began to rise. Rather than turn back and admit his shame, the warlord commanded the men to break down the wall, which was lined with cracks and crumbled with age. As the band burst through the newly-created opening, they found a splendiferous sight - an ancient imperial barracks, filled with armor and weapons wrought in the finest of gold and gemstones - as well as piles upon piles of both.

While most of the men surged forward to reap the rewards of their new discovery, Gabriel hung back. He was cautious. From a young age, his heat-addled mother had taught him that nothing in life is free, and everything good in life comes with a price. He walked amongs the men, pushing his way through, until he found himself at the very end of the hall, where golden pedestal lay overturned. A ponderous tome, equally as ornate and golden, lay closed on the floor beside it. Gabriel heard a voice in his head beckoning him, and the world around him turned thick and fuzzy. As he approached the tome, sand began to whirl about it, and the cover began to vibrate with each step Gabriel took, growing closer. Soon he was practically atop it, and he reached down to pick it up.

A man called out, and Gabriel turned, dropping the book to the floor with a heavy thud. Xer'sai were flooding into the subterranean hall, clicking and screeching and leaping down to attack the warlord's men. With an earsplitting screech, the queen herself, an ugly purple monstrosity, burst in from the dirt and sand above to land right in front of Gabriel. She raised a clawed leg, her mandibles clicking with sapient laughter, and Gabriel prepared to join his father in the beyond.

The queen flew to the side with an indignant howl, crashing into a pile of gold to Gabriel's right as a massive hand swatted her away. Gabriel turned to see an extraordinary sight - a massive man of sand and stone, golden specks pouring off of his shoulders in waves, his face an impassive scowl. Its gaze shifted to the men behind Gabriel, their blood running over the gold and their screams filling the cold, still cavern air as the Xer'sai began their feast. Gabriel turned to look at the creature now staring down at him with flat golden eyes. In his mind he knew what he had to do. He pointed to the massacre behind him with a single trembling finger.

The being reached out and snatched up the wriggling Xer'sai queen, which howled and screamed and thrashed her tail back and forth, sinking her jaws onto the being's hand. It paid her no heed as it reached back and flung her, hard, at the seething mass of man and Xer'sai flesh, where she landed with a sickening crack. Reaching above Gabriel with massive golden hands of sand, the being became to extricate the corpses of men from the churning horde of Xer'Sai, squashing the ones it could reach with a closed fist. Gabriel watched in awe as the queen launched herself at the hand, sinking her jaws yet again onto the sandy flesh. The giant flicked her off and slammed down with an open palm, but she had already flung herself into the mounds of gold. With a muffled screech she called to her brethren, several of her legs bent at unnatural angles, as the dove into the wall and swam through the dirt and sand and out of sight. Her kind followed her, leaving a collection of dead both man and beast.

Gabriel turned to the being behind him, which regarded him with the same flat scowl. He looked down and saw the book between the two of them, opened to a page covered in an language Gabriel did not understand. Sand was coursing from the golden calligraphy on the pages and streaming up to join the impressive bulk of the being's half-submerged torso. He reached down to pick it up, and snapped it shut with a satisfying clap. The being seemed to relax slightly as it melted before Gabriel's very eyes, the sand streaking off of it in great sheets and waves of gold and brown. Soon, Gabriel was alone in the chamber, save for the piles and piles of gold.

Gabriel made his way out of the caverns, guided by the gentle pull of the tome nestled in the crook of his arm. There he found the warlord's band completely destroyed, and the corpses of his kin and fellow slaves. From far off he heard the faint screech of a Xer'sai, and he so he gritted his teeth and set about gathering as much food, water, and gold as he could fit on a camel, covering himself in a dark cloak to protect from the sun. The tome bounced against the camel's flanks as his silhouette atop it stood dark and proud against the setting sun, whose light faded as it dipped forlornly beneath the dunes.

##Works well with:

Poppy Poppy, Keeper of the Hammer Gabriel's biggest weakness is that he is vulnerable to being jumped on while too close to the Forgotten, but Poppy has him covered there. She can ram an enemy into the Forgotten's torso to stun them up, and block any attempts to encroach on her fellow Keeper with her Steadfast Presence. And if multiple enemies are converging on the Forgotten to threaten Gabriel on his own turf, she can knock them back to base while he flees with his Tome in hand.

TahmKench Tahm Kench, the River King: Gabriel is best suited to forcing his opponents hand and daring them to come within reach of the Forgotten - but is also vulnerable to direct combat whilst doing so. The River King's certain appetite for champions can help Gabriel both get away and land his ultimate on devoured foes. And when Gabriel needs to reposition both himself and his tome, he can hop into the catfish's cavernous maw to threaten another lane instead.

Illaoi Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess The Truth Seeker's tentacles only spawn on terrain, which the Forgotten can provide in abundance. Illaoi also succeeds in another venture - forcing a fight right on top of her. Gabriel is more than happy to oblige a well-timed Leap of Faith with a barrage of the Forsaken's fists, and can pluck those who try and run from her god's wrath and force them back into the fray.

##Struggles against:

Katarina Katarina, the Sinister Blade Gabriel can't hope to keep up with the fast-paced and visceral laning phase of the Sinister Blade, nor can the Forgotten seem to land a blow against her. Katarina can safely harass Gabriel insisde the safe zone close to the Forgotten, and blink out of attempts to punish her for dancing in and out on her Daggers. And because Gabriel is a poor roamer with few tools to stop her, she can freely bully bot to pick up double kill after double kill.

Olaf Olaf, the Berserker Gabriel's only hope against bruisers and assassins that jump in his face is to pick them up and throw them somewhere else, but that doesn't fly with the Berserker, who can activate Ragnarok and completely ignore the slew of stuns and displacements the Forgotten can dish out to protect its master. Gabriel will eat a face full of axe as the Forgotten watches impassively from a distance.

Xerath Xerath, the Magus Ascendant Gabriel often wins mage battles thanks to the Forgotten's raw destructive power, but the Forgotten can't kill what it can't even reach. Xerath can safely clear waves from a distance and poke down the Keeper, who has to stay within reach of Xerath's spells if he wants to control the Forgotten. And when Gabriel's already fragile health pool is whittled low, Xerath can nestle himself behind his own turret and begin a Rite of the Arcane to finish off the young Keeper from a screen away.

Upvoted! Love how the champion is kind of like Azir but with one huge soldier! I hope Rito implements more champions that have abilities connected to an entity other than themselves!!!! Great job

So going to be dropping a nifty review here. Hopefully you don't mind it. Anyways not the best when it comes to reviewing lore but I am going to be doing so with all my next set of reviews as well. Anyways no more chit chat, I got a lot to go over.

Lore The lore itself is pretty solid if I must say. It gives us a little bit of background onto Gabriel without putting meaningless text into it. Also explains the story pretty well on how he came into possession of the tome he carries. Now what exactly the forgotten is remains a mystery but that is something that may never get explained. Which honestly the mystery does leave more room in his story for others to work with. Honestly it isn't bad in the slightest.

Innate The passive here is rather unique I must admit. For that you get points for creativity. Though I will admit this passive is not only his strength but weakness as well, a double edged sword from what I can see. While the Forgotten is incredibly strong, Gabriel is nothing. Most assassins will be able to bypass the sand guardian and with Gabriel not being able to defend himself would result in a lot of bad match ups. In this sense I would consider the Forgotten the champion over Gabriel. I can see him work better in top lane being able to bully and zone those heavy melee champions, rather then mid lane. This maybe just my opinion though. Having a channel to summon the guardian and then having a time for it to be deployed too does seem a bit excessive. You might want to consider removing the channel but keeping the deploy time. Its a buff but would keep his game play a bit more on the fun side. Cause otherwise it would just be waiting for the big guardian to wake up just to start doing anything. Stats and everything are on the stronger side but that is to be expected with him being a giant sand man.

Q Onto the Q, I feel like the passive portion of the ability is a bit strange. Gabriel being in the direct line of sight of the Forgotten once it lands an ability on enemy champions or structures grants reduced cool downs. That is very specific to be honest. While that does definitely raise the skill ceiling for the concept, it maybe a bit excessive. Now I get that the cool down passive is here because if I am getting this correctly, the big sand lug can't basic attack. So this provides him the ability to keep smashing what ever is in its path. Maybe it might be a good idea to consider changing the circumstances in which the cool down reduction is granted? I do have something in mind but I will only offer it if asked. The active portion is pretty practical. Basically Gabriel commands a hulk smash from his big friend to a target location. Reliable range allows him to keep his distance and the damage isn't over the top either. Overall a good and reasonable active that gives decent counter play options.

W The W is a strong ability, and it makes sense coming from the sand guardian. The question I have here is mainly regarding hit boxes. So the Forgotten sweeps with his hand in an arc, so does that mean that enemies that collided with the hand are pushed or does the arm have any play into the ability as well? As well which way are they pushed, to the guardian's right or left? Mainly this is out of curiosity sake. Now while it does provide great cc to multiple targets going to let it slide seeing that it fits not only thematically but the control mage aspect. Good work on this one.

E Another ability that matches the control mage concept. Now why I do like the ability to stun targets like how a person swats a fly, there is one thing I do want to bring up here. Now this ability is good in its own right and I don't have much to say for it in general. So instead I am going to talk about something I haven't touched up on, the ability to damage structures. While I do like the concept of it, does every ability need to have the potential to damage structures? Considering the ranges that the Forgotten has of 1300 with each ability, Gabriel could just focus a majority of his abilities to damaging structures while coming no where near range. Yes I do know that they do reduced damage to structures. Still this is a concern to bring up for the sake of balance. I think the Q could be fine to be able to damage structures, but the W and E as well might be a bit much. Just wanted give my worries about that considering in the current state his abilities get a reduced cool down when hitting a structure.

R The ultimate I do like. I consider it a banish which there isn't a lot of those kinds of abilities within the league. I like that fact that Gabriel himself can be grabbed by the hulking sand man to dodge abilities and protect himself. It is a bit trolly being able to pick up allies as well, so it might be good just being able to pick up Gabriel. The damage isn't bad either as it is unable to kill people but put them in terrible situations. Every thought out and I enjoy it.

Overall The concept is pretty solid in terms of lore and theme. There is a strong amount of CC throughout the kit but counter play to go with it. Of course there are some certain concerns that I have pointed out. The innate passive is unique but can be both a blessing and a curse in my eyes. The Q I feel like the active it fine, but the passive portion of it should be changed due to it being pretty specific circumstances for the benefit. The W is great matching the role well, but I feel like there could be some quality tweaks for it. E is a good ability to can function with the others well, but it does concern me how many abilities can damage structures. The ultimate weaves the kit together nicely without being too strong itself.

Anyways hopefully this is the kind of feedback you were looking for. I wouldn't mind some criticism for my champion, Niado, The Razor Conductor. Perhaps you can get some time to drop a review yourself. ^_^

Ok, 5 downvotes with no indication why.....

This is a really unique champion. His kit will probably take some time getting used to the delays, but otherwise, everything seems to run smooth.

Probably not a flawless champion, but +1 vote anyways.

These abilities look like you screencapped them from an official league site or something. ;) looks cool

read title, thought he summoned and commanded mini urgots and galios.....was severely dissapointed

DrugsForRobots2/15/2017, 8:11:58 AM1 votes

Quick thoughts, not a true review:

I really like the core idea here, which (IMO) is: a minion-mancer with a pet the size of a tower or Baron. That's a really awesome idea. It being stationary gives it some cool counterplay. I think the abilities themselves (and the identity / character of Gabriel) aren't as strong / resonant as they could be. I get that as a giant upper-body sand-statue golem it would mostly just swing its arms and smash its fist into the ground, maybe pick up someone and throw them, but those abilities just feel kinda lackluster.

The lore is fine. The story is told well enough, it's not too lengthy, not too vague. As I said, I don't think Gabriel (as he is described) is really champion material, which makes sense given your lore. But the idea of someone summoning this huge colossus to do battle for him needs something to really push it over the top. As it stands, Gabriel is pretty much just some dude. If anyone else got ahold of the book, they'd replace him. He doesn't seem to have some quality or attitude or belief that makes him his own man (the way Garen has his perseverance and sense of justice and honor, or Darius has his 'might equals right' mentality and love of battle and brutal lawfulness.) Gabriel appears to be the vehicle for the real champ - the Forgotten.

Don't take this too harshly, these are just my observations. The idea of a mage who's pet is HUGE is really novel and interesting. (I haven't seen it before.) It is rough around the edges though.

MuffledGarbage2/12/2017, 2:36:04 AM1 votes

The only problem I see with Gabriel is that...

to summon the forgotten he has to channel for HOW LONG AGAIN????????

well that doesn't matter much... because riot would have to make the forgotten just like AurelionSol stars in which that he can be seen even if there are bushes in the way.

They'd have to include the forgotten being visible from anywhere which would suck quite a bit considering how well made this kit is.

Tbh I think the ability to Tower damage ratio should be based on level, I'd say starting at 20% damage to towers then ramping capping at 80% at level 15 so that a slightly earlier powerspike would be good.

Just for a fresh perspective the role I can see Gabriel being is a toplane mage that can replace a tank thanks to the forgotten being a respawnable tank that has a lot of CC.

Gabriel also seems like he'd be a good support with the forgotten being a "third champion of sorts" and having lots of CC.

anyhoo have a nice day!
