[Champion Concept] Bentham -- The Battle Medic (ADC/SUPPORT ATTEMPT)

Hey everyone! Another champion concept here!

My aim here is to try and blend an ADC kind of role with a support.

Let me know your thoughts!!

PASSIVE – TRIAGE

Innate: As long as Bentham is near an allied champion, when he or an allied champion’s health drops to 40% or below, Bentham grants himself and his ally a [30 – 90] (based on level) health shield for up to 2 seconds and grants himself a 30% bonus attack and movement speed buff for 2 seconds. This ability has a 45 second cooldown.

Q – EMERGENCY PROTOCOLS

Active: Bentham switches between one of his two stances, channelling for 0.5 seconds.

  1. Battle: Bentham’s auto-attacks target enemies. Every third attack against an enemy deals 20/35/50/5/80 (+40% AP) magic damage.
  2. Medic: Bentham’s auto-attacks can only target allied champions. While in Medic stance, Bentham’s attack speed is reduced to [0.47 – 0.67] (based on level) and he does not gain bonus attack speed from effects other than his own passive. Hitting an allied champion with an auto-attack heals them for 30/40/50/60/70 (+20% AD) (+40% AP) health over a 6 (-1% per 0.5% bonus AS) seconds. This effect can stack.

W – ANAESTHETIZE/BOOSTER SHOT

Active: Bentham primes a syringe, channelling for up to 5 seconds, to increase the range of his next auto-attack over the next 2 seconds (after 2 seconds, it reaches maximum range). Bentham can switch stances while activating this ability.

  1. On Enemy: Bentham targets an enemy dealing 20/40/60/80/100 (+120% AD) (+50% AP) damage and stunning them for 1.25 seconds.
  2. On Ally: Bentham immediately heals an ally for 40/70/110/150/190 (+20% AD) (+20% AP) health and applying the stat of his medic stance.

E – EVACUATION

Active: Bentham throws a cleansing pellet at his feet, blinding nearby enemies for 1 second and causing a fog to persist over a very small immediate area for up to 2 seconds. Allies within the area are obscured. Leaving the edge of the obscured area grants allies a 20%/23%/26%/29%/32% decaying burst of movement speed for 3 seconds.

R – QUARANTINE

Active: Bentham summons a circular zone with two distinct areas which lingers for 5 seconds. The inner central zone grants 13/19/25 (+1 per 100 AP) armor and magic resistance to allies, while the outer zone deals 30/60/90 (+70% AP) magic damage each second to enemies.

Let's get this started.

First I have to say that I absolutely love the idea to bring a true marksman support into the game. Riot has shown with Pyke that they are willing to experiment with some "uncommon" combinations and I would like something like this to happen in the future.

Gameplay and Kit

So, you are going with the stance approach here. I think it is a good solution to balance out his split between being a damage dealer and healer, too, locking him out of one role at a time.

Some things I have to point out:

The shield on his passive is underwhelming Shielding an ally for 30 to 90 health is really low. At level 1, when enemies are the weakest, this wouldn't even block half an auto attack. At level 18, with a non scaling 90 base shield, it is basically not existent. Might as well remove the shield from the passive at this point.

I think his healing Q should cost him a small amount of mana per AA Basically the same what happens with Jinx in her rocket stance. Having permanent, resourceless sustain down in bot lane without having to put yourself at risk (staying behind the ADC, out of range of the enemy and just spamming your AA on him) seems really unfun to play against. Some management should be needed here.

E having team wide obscure could be too strong in certain situations How exactly does the obscure work here? Do they get visible the exact moment they leave the circle or is it lingering a short time like for Akalis W? This could really make the champion broken. For example, giving the whole team a speed buff and a short moment they are not seen can be used as a really strong initiation tool, not to mention the incredible disengage this skill is intended for. Also giving the bot lane really strong safety against jungler ganks, especially in combination with the point&click stun on W.

Why bonus resistances on R? Considering the whole theme of the champion, I would have expected a healing effect in the middle of it. It can work, but this detail confused me a bit.

Itemization I kinda wonder which items you expect this champion to pick up. When I saw that it is a marksman support, I thought you would build in some synergy with crit to give this champion a reason to pick up common marksman items, just like Pyke is building lethality like other assassins most of the time. Best fit seems to be on-hit, the champion would want AP and AS in their build path. Interesting synergy with Rageblade, but it could be a bit much again, if his healing Q is considered an on-hit effect and therefore could apply twice every 2. auto attack with it.

Things I really like about this concept:

Interesting synergy with some support items like Ardent Censer. The stance mechanic, especially in combination with the W spell, fits the concept perfectly and seem really fun. I like the idea of the smoke screen for the team, just don't know if obscure is the right mechanic for it.

Character Design and Lore

Unfortunately, you put alot of emphasis on the kit here, but didn't really tell us how this champion is supposed to look like or what kind of story they are telling us.

Kinda sad, since these are the points I am mostly interested in new champions, but maybe you will flesh that out further at a later stage. Seems like your champion would be from either Piltover or Zaun (personally, I would suggest Piltover), because of the very "techy" vibes they have. Having some kind of hextech syringe gun would be really cool to get implemented in the game and this concept would give me something I am really starving for when it comes to lore: a medic.

Ever since they changed Dr. Mundo from a real, mad doctor, to some weirdo who has a really fucked up concept of medicine in his head, I always wanted to explore modern medicine in Piltover and Zaun more. Most of the healing in the game is explained by magic, it would be really nice to have a champion who is relying on science and technology to heal people in need.
