Udyr rework Concept
so me and a friend decided to work on an udyr rework concept, because quite frankly, udyr has a number of problems associated with him that have been largely unaddressed (or many players seem unaware of) throughout the years.
-
his role, as well as his playstyle is binary and uninteresting after the first couple of games.
-
depending on what patch you are on, you will always choose between tiger / phoenix and never attempt both
-
no matter what build / skill path you choose his role in the game is almost always the same (same as point 1). Usually your endgame involves pressing EW and Q/R while right clicking without too much thought behind it.
-
he's been a terrible pick in most metas for several years now, outside of specific timeframes (most recently with runic echos + swiftness boots being strong a month or two back) and even then his playstyle can be emulated by many champions which doesn't make him very unique.
so we decided to rework his kit so that his role in the game is dictated by what stance he has active at that given time and that in teamfights, even though he can't spam different stances over and over the 1/2 stances that he is allowed to have in those fights clearly define what he does and how he impacts the game
numbers are very tentative, since this is purely a rough draft but should give a general idea of what i think udyr should look like if he were to get a rework- a martial artist who switches stances and dictates his playstyle and impact based on the stances he chooses to level up / activate.
Passive:
STANCE: Udyr has no ultimate ability: instead, any ability can be learned from the start and each has 5 ranks. Each ability also has a persistent effect, which ends only when Udyr switches stances, though using an ability prevents him from using a different stance for 4 seconds.
PRIMAL ENLIGHTENMENT
udyr gets 1 stack of primal enlightenment for every 3rd stance he switches to
When udyr kills a jungle monster, he gains 1 stack (buffs and cannon minions give 5 stacks, epic monsters give 10 stacks) (tiny raptors, wolves, etc don't count)
when udyr gets to 20 stacks, he goes into primal enlightenment for X seconds. During this time, he will obtain all of the PASSIVE bonuses of his stances simultaneously (he may "double up" on a stance by activating it during this time period).
when udyr is in primal enlightenment, he cannot gain stacks. Stacks are cut to 1/3rd of their current amount upon death (rounded up) (so if he has 15 stacks, he will respawn with 5)
Q: Tiger Stance (assassin/ dueling style, stick to people and deal damage)
Stance Passive : Udyr's auto attacks give him 5/10/15/20/25 bonus movespeed and 2/4/6/8/10% attack speed for 1 second. This ability does not stack.
Stance active : Udyr gains bonus AD for 3 seconds and his first auto attack will deal bonus physical damage over 2 seconds to the target.
W: Turtle Stance (Tanking Style, soak up damage)
Stance Passive: Udyr has a shield that blocks damage that slowly regenerates over time
Stance Active: for 2 seconds, udyr negates and reflects x% (probably a low percent like 1-5) of all damage received back to their respective sources, and for 3 seconds increases his shield amount and shield regeneration rate by 50%
E: Bear Stance (Run around and CC, flanking style)
Stance Passive: Udyr gains 20% tenacity
Stance Active: For 2 seconds, Udyr gains 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% bonus movespeed, Ignores unit collision, and stuns targets for 2 seconds with his auto attacks (the same target cannot be stunned again for 3 seconds)
R: Pheonix Stance (supportive style)
Stance Passive: Udyr and all allies within X range gain HP/MP regeneration. Udyr's auto attacks inflict bonus magic damage, and deal additional burn damage on minions and monsters.
Stance active: Udyr unleashes pulsing waves of fire around him for several seconds. Targets hit by the fire are revealed (including wards) and take increased damage from all sources for 2 seconds.
