Yorick -Rework for a REAL Gravedigger
The saying goes “Yorick walks into a bar and there is no counter”. As a player with a 90% win rate with this champion, I can say that this quote is a pretty strong and accurate assessment of him. However, why is this champion in the bottom three in terms of popularity? The answer is quite obvious, he is boring. A point click lane bully who adds no skill or challenge isn’t something that competitive players want. Riot designers unintentionally describe how Yorick is in gameplay :

I feel that Yorick is not only hard to counter, but is counter-intuitive. Yorick is a gravedigger, not a ghoul summoner. Summing a ghoul should come from him digging a spirit with his ancestor’s shovel. There is no action animation that Yorick digs something up, and I think taking a literal approach could add some skill and action to an underground character.
Passive – Haunting – Basic attacks apply a mark of Haunting. Ghouls summoned by Yorick haunt marked enemies. 3 targets can be marked at a time. Haunting lasts 8 secs, and can be refreshed. (Yorick’s presence comes from Yorick’s ghoul)
Q – Shovel strike – Only change is ability applies Haunting. What is the point of having a shovel if you don’t hit people with it?
W- Open Casket - Yorick digs up and toss a casket at an enemy (similar to heimerdinger grenade) that upon landing deals AoE damage and slows enemies. Enemies hit by the casket in flight are damaged and stunned instead. When casket lands or breaks upon hitting an enemy, a ghoul appears. If an enemy is hit by the casket, Haunting is applied.
E - Ghoulish Projection – Passive, Yorick digs a ghoul every 10 secs (max 3 summoned from passive) Active –Yorick launches a ghoul in target direction. Ghouls that are launched passes through minions. Enemies hit by a launched ghoul take ____ damage. If an enemy has Haunting applied, Yorick heals for ____ % damage dealt.
R – Revenant March – Applies Haunting on ally champion. Mark last 10 secs on ally champion. Allies deal ____ % hp damage to targets marked by Haunting. If ally dies during the duration of the mark, the champ comes back for 10 secs to exact revenge. Ghouls do not attack ally champions.
With some help and tweeks, Yorick could be a unique champion that follows all that encompasses a grave-digging creature of the shadow isle. I hope you can dig these ideas and can show some love to one of my favorite champions. Again, these are just thoughts and concepts. Addition advice and comments are appreciated.
