A Support Item Proposal - Since you're removing Tier 3 Support Items and their Quests...

Since the Tier 3 support items and their quests are being removed from the game, I have a simple proposal that I think would make everyone happy.

Add Face of the Mountain, Twin Shadow, and Shurelya's Reverie as stand alone items, complete with their respective passives Shield Battery, Queen's Tribute, and Emperor's Favor, minus the gold income aspect. Except, lock these items out of purchase unless you've got a gold income item. This will serve two fold. First, it will allow us to have access to Tier 3 support item variants again, and the passives that we've come to love. Second, it will require that you have 2 item slots set aside to even build the items. This will greatly deter abuse, because if they're not slot efficient or they don't offer enough stats to make them viable in other lanes, other laners cannot afford to lose an extra item slot from their build to abuse things like Shield Battery or Queen's Tribute. Sure, some will try, but they would be trading out a lot of damage or longevity in order to access these passives. This works well because it grants us the option to buy these items or not, and they would most certainly be desirable power picks for supports.

Please consider this Riot. If you must take away the engaging quests of Supports, at least give us our items and passives back so we can still keep the same play styles.

Riot has already mentioned that they're planning to bring back the effects in the form of new items-- however, Face of the Mountain will likely not be returning.

The original issue, before it was moved onto Frost Queen's Claim, was that nobody bought Twin Shadows, although that could be fixed with a change of stats towards a more support-focused aspect, so that tankier supports have chasing potential. Either that or they go a more middle-ground approach, much like the stats on Redemption.

Shurelya's/Talisman effect is DEFINITELY making a comeback, in my opinion. Once again, they're probably going to look for a more middle-ground area with the stats.

Riot themselves have said that it's less likely Face of the Mountain will return: this is because of its similarities to Locket of the Iron Solari. They're both items that grant tank stats, and upon activation, will grant a shield to yourself allies. We already have that as a support-oriented shield item.

Their passive effects likely will not return, either. The Talisman quest effect is rather dull, and the Face quest effect is what broke the meta, due to its pairing with Fleet Footwork and Overheal. Frost Queen's quest effect is most likely to return, due to its flexibility-- after all, movement speed is generally good on everybody. However, at the same time, for this reason, they would have to be careful with it, as it may just have the same issue of it being built on non-supports, IE: Junglers.

The reasons, if you didn't catch it, involve of the abuse of the support items in other lanes-- however, the bigger issue they were aiming to solve was the support role being forced into building Sightstone. It's a mandatory second item slot that all supports have to build, which reduces their build freedom. Simply turning the support item into Sighstone fixes this issue very effectively, in my opinion, as it frees up the item slot while allowing for the adaptation of the new support items with the old quest effects, greatly increasing the build freedom of a support player.

Edit: Had forgotten to mention, but currently, there ARE Junglers who are supposed to by Spellthief's early on-- Nidalee is a prime example. You can engage and disengage really quickly to get all of free gold, and I've seen Cowsep do it on Master Yi during his cheese Level 2 invade. The buff is super strong, since again, everybody likes movement speed. Me and a friend have also done duo top 2-3 times, and ran double Face of the Mountain on Aatrox and Pantheon. We weren't really "sacrificing an item slot," and the shield buff ended up being well worth it-- it was, effectively, a free additional 400 hit points.
