Beekeeper Singed Skin/Icon to help save the Western Honey bees?

Burn Heal·9/19/2017, 12:02:28 AM·71 votes·3,565 views

United States beekeepers had lost 44% of their Western Honey Bee population JUST from April 2015 to April 2016 and the percentage has dropped since then. (resource: https://beeinformed.org/2016/05/10/nations-beekeepers-lost-44-percent-of-bees-in-2015-16/)

I feel like it is a lot to ask for, but the Beekeeper Singed Skin and the Bee Icon that are currently on the PBE are way too good to just be left on their own. I feel that once the skin/icon hits the live server, a percentage of the money that was used to purchase the skin/icon should go to one of the several save the bee foundations. ( EX: http://www.nwhoneybee.org/ or https://bigbeecount.org/donate/ )

Not only will people want to buy the skin because it is SO GOOD, but also because it is going to a good cause.

I hope that somebody important sees and responds to this post. Singed SingedSingedSingedSinged

Edit: this is probably the wrong forum page to post this; if somebody could redirect me if I need to, that would be helpful.

_Edit 2: holy shit this post has blown up, thank you so much everybody! I'm tempted to start a petition for Riot. _

Hello, I would like to put your mind at ease. You don't have to worry about the Western/European honey bees. Colony collapse disorder was picked up as the media in 2006 as the next thing to freak out about, but as always, the media was just trying to make headlines. If you dig deeper into the issue, you find out a few things. First, there are ~4,000 species of native bees that live in the U.S. right now. None of those species were reported to have these same die-offs. And yes, the honey bees you're wanting to donate to save, are not natives to North America. They were brought here by European Settlers (Hence the European/Western honey bee). Indians called them the white man's fly. These none-native bees are used extensively in commercial crop pollination. They are literally trucked around the country to various farms. Should we talk about some causes of bee death? How about stress? These bees live lives of nonstop work in toxic conditions. Interestingly enough...organic bee farmers don't experience these same die-offs. Commercial bees nowadays are forced to pollinate large fields of only one thing, never experiencing diversity, and being dusted with pesticides at every flower. The natural pastures of grasses and wildflowers that used to help sustain the bees are disappearing more and more. I think the real problem here is commercial farming. Their practices are destroying their own bees. But, they don't care. You can buy a new queen for cheap on the internet. New hives are always available. I'm not worried about the European honey bee, I'm worried about pesticide use and habitat destruction, and the protection of our native bee species (many of which actually do a much better job of pollinating, AND work in conditions that European bees will not). Your links seem to be working on restoring habitat for wild, native bees. This is a good thing of course. Your title suggests saving the commercialized honey bees and I hope I cleared up some things for you. Honestly, it would be great if the skin focused on protecting our native bees.

Riot made a comment on my post about charities:

Kushnood 886 points 1 day ago Hijacking the top comment because you're bringing up a really good point. Quick story time... After the earthquake in Nepal a few years ago there was a LOT of discussions internally about whether we should run a global fundraiser for more disaster aid. However, to your point there were other multiple tragedies in that year which didn't grab headlines and many other people were suffering. The questions of which disasters should we support, and how much, and where, and when were pretty hard to answer. The solution we came up with was to partner with the org, International Medical Corps, and forward fund our disaster relief each year. Rather than being reactionary and providing our relief aid multiple weeks after the tragedy, we actually cut IMC a big check at the top of the year. As bad things happen, we "release" the funds which get to the site almost within 24 hours to help people get back on their feet and rebuild communities. We rely on our partner to raise issues that have a major tragedy to people around the world no matter what is in the headlines. We've already released a lot of funding for these latest storms. But, for anyone who is interested in helping out as well, there are a lot of great organizations out there that could really use your support. Beware of scams and check major (reputable) news sites for some well-vetted nonprofits. (edited for formatting, because I don't know how to reddit)

Yes!!! I am not a Singed player, so I wouldnt have bought the skin just for the skin, but as a biologist, I would definitly buy this skin for charity!!! A lot of polinating insects (not just bees) are dying because of lack of habitat and polution...using a medium like this would aid our buzzy little helpers a great deal :D

If this was the case i might actually buy it. I thinkbthis skin is mediocre but if it's for the bees. I can't dissapoint Jerry ya know.

That would be an amazing thing for Riot to do. I'd happily purchase the icon purely to help.

I'd love to see this happen, and I would probably buy the icon/skin just for this reason. That said I don't think Riot would go along with it, as they already have their annual charity donations and the current Ashe Championship charity donation ongoing.

It would be thoughtful and extremely generous for Riot to do so, seeing as they're already raising money for charity with the Championship Ashe skin~
