[MCCC] Honoka, the Child of Memories
Honoka, Child of Memories
In the literal sense, Honoka uses the remnants of her ancestors, their memories, to actually fight. From a technical standpoint, Honoka 'recalls' the last hotkey you used to determine her next spell-- So you have to really pay attention to what you've done, and what you can do!
VISUAL APPEARANCE:
Honoka has a muffler-like cape that splits into two tails immediately after leaving her shoulders. Her hair drapes about halfway over her right eye, and changes from white to a vibrant red as she casts spells. On her left arm is a pauldron that has a secondary pauldron angled almost perpendicularly to the first. This arm has no sleeves on it, and instead shows blue glowing lines. A fluffy wristband appears to be where these lines stop. Her right sleeve is long, and has a very large golden cuff-- with red circles inside this cuff. The shirt is a darkened blue-purple, and she has two belts that create an x-like shape. Reaching just below these belts is a tassel from her muffler, and reaching immediately below this, short split-pieces that curl upwards at their bottom. Her right leg is covered with a short pant, ending in a cloth bracelet above her ankle that has thin-cloth flair both up and down her leg. Her other leg has a long pant over it, and both of her feet have plain, brownish, thick-bottomed shoes.
In her right hand is a bamboo stick. It is about 7/9ths her height, and frayed on the ends from how much it has been worked. This is her primary weapon, and her hand placement on it adjusts based on how she is swinging (probability of using certain strokes are weighted based on which abilities she's cast recently). She wields it sometimes one-handed and occasionally two-handed.
But I know not everybody can imagine this. Instead, I shall please your tastes with a lineart of Honoka, with her ancestral blades as sprites to fill in some of the space (They correspond to the abilities in order because I'm pedantic):

#Lore?
The girl had been standing in the destroyed courtyard for hours. Dusk was rapidly approaching, but she did not seem to care.
We left, and when we returned? She was still there.
Who could it be that would stand at that destroyed library for so long? She was standing upright the whole time, even when we returned.
One of our company decided to ask her... only to find her asleep. Fully upright, her eyes were closed and she was just barely snoring.
And then she jumped onto one of the walls of the destroyed library and ran up it, bounding across the landscape and stopping whenever she passed over a room. Looking for something.
But what it was, we would never know. The library was long since abandoned, in favor of new recording devices and a new location. Though that did not end up happening, due to how many of them simply left.
Who are they? Even we're not sure. But their powers were undeniable-- wars that were believed to have happened were actually stopped. The library had held documents that lead people to believing the existence of these extradimensional beings, capable of pulling legends onto a battlefield and returning them-- within mere fractions of a second; nay, so little time that it would be unnoticible-- back home. But in that time, possibly multiple times within their body being absent, they had fought for an extended period of time. Their memories would be adjusted, influenced-- as though the battle had been but a dream that they remembered spontaneously.
But one day, simultaneously, all of those who claimed to be part of this... stopped claiming so. They stopped telling people of the 'sudden dreams', the memories from nowhere. When they were asked about this, they only said that it had stopped. No more were these mythical summoners battling with heroes from Valoran, taken within instants. Almost all instances had vanished without a trace-- There were records that proved they should have existed, but nothing else. And these records were being destroyed. The library we had stood guard at previously held information regarding them, but it existed no more.
The girl who had been leaping amongst the wreckage came to us. She asked if there were any records left. At the time, I did not know what she was talking about... But I shortly realized. She had already read everything I wrote above in the instant that she caught me unaware, which could not have been more than a second or two. Perhaps she was a lesser being to these summoners... I had thought. She replied as I opened my mouth-- "No. I am looking for relatives of mine." When I asked her about their appearance, she seemed dejected. "Not a relative. All of their souls are bound inside that object. A small pendant. I had heard it was stored here for safekeeping for when I was awoken from my recovery."
As the day had already been extraordinarily hectic, I told her where the new battlefield was supposed to be. She left so fast that the papers were blown from their resting places, my ink turned over.
That... was normal, compared to what came next. Out of the old destroyed library came what at first seemed to be that girl, though her hair was a very vibrant red instead of the previous nearly-white it had been. Come to think of it, a child as young as her shouldn't have had white hair-- I guess I've seen too many records of heroes and heroines.
She thanked me. She then impaled me with six red tendrils... Or would have, if she did not first conjure a series of blue tendrils that protected me. Two tendrils, one black, one white, both partially translucent, wrapped around each of her arms. The child's reach, no doubt, was too small.
That child, however, was clearly very experienced with her art. She left, then, leaving me with just one word-- 'ancestry', and her name-- Honoka.
Naturally, I was curious. She looked no more than 16, but the instinct with which she had moved and attacked and even blocked her own strike were far too trained.
In looking up this, much later after we had finished cleaning up the destruction-- years, probably-- I found a journal. It dated from before I met her until just a few weeks before I found it. But it wasn't just a journal... Preceding these entries were normal ones, though I noticed that her journal never referred to herself. She never wrote the word "I", until this point. She always used "we", even when describing her own actions in a battle or training exercise.
I'm lonely. I haven't been able to do anything. Dad took them away. - Monday
I want them. - Thursday
Why did he take them? - Friday
When can I have them back? Are they going to come back together still? - Saturday
I NEED. - Sunday
No more. - Saturday
I left for the sorcerer's home, the library. There was no doubt in my mind-- I absolutely needed to have my ancestors with me. I could not think without them, except on where they might be. I couldn't talk, I couldn't think-- My brain was too quiet.
The forest was pretty. Enaeva would have said that. Zaichenrel would have said that going through the forest was a pain, and to just cut them down. Urbiel would add that all the trees would die anyway, so cutting them down would be fine. Enior would feel insulted at the disregard for life, causing Nahel to comment that the trees would be happier if pruned only a little and not a lot as Zaichenrel suggested. Eliwan would append that the trees are necessary for many lives, Nalwei would snark that being selfless would be the end of us all. Auntie Elikia's shard would ask why we wouldn't just be jumping over the trees, and father's fragment would remind that the rest of them can't fight well airborne.
I... really needed them. So I broke down the walls, I struck down anything in my way that wasn't a person-- going straight towards the pendant. When I got there, I found dad... giving the pendant to auntie.
I followed auntie, relentlessly, since though I could not wield them being close would let me at least be with their spirits.
When she left, I... I don't remember. I was in the woods, the pendant in a bloodied hand. I didn't care past the pendant. I washed the blood off in the near river, when I realized that it was my hand that was bleeding, completely broken. I called to the spirits-- They were not all there. But when I called out to Ekerl, I felt some of the others. When I called to one of them, I lost feeling of Ekerl... I guessed that something had gone wrong, that the pendant had somehow been damaged-- which meant, without a doubt, that the reason my hand was injured was that me and auntie had been attacked.
I rushed back to where I woke up, and found auntie bleeding out. I should have looked for her first... by the time I got to her, all she had to say was that I was not at fault, and let her soul bind within the pendant.
I found myself in a library, much later. Elphrihaim-- dad-- had been wondering if I was getting used to cycling between holding and not holding the pendant over the years. I had not, truthfully. I could barely stand the moments that I did not have it. Every moment felt dull, uninteresting. Nothing to do but sit and wait...
But then the library was completely destroyed, crushing almost everything. Including my weakened father... His spirit joined his sister in the pendant, so I was not without him.
I was never without him, never without my family, ever again. That, truly, was bliss. Is bliss. Will be bliss.
Maybe I shouldn't have spent so long with Wirym; I still hold the body I did almost ten years ago now. Letting the shapeshifter change me so much had stopped my body from changing itself.
I, Honoka, can't care, though. I get to be me, forever... And use my only talent-- fighting.

Honoka's basic abilities all have 6 ranks and her ultimate only has 1 rank.
#Ability One
_Q: Naclexio Spiral: Honoka launches one of the tendrils that form the Naclexio around her arm forward in a ~60 unit wide, ~475 unit long line, dealing 25/50/75/100/125/150 (+70% Total AD) (+40% AP) Magic Damage in a line. Can be recast at no cost within 3 seconds, dealing 25/50/75/100/125/150 (+70% Total AD) (+40% AP) Physical Damage this time. The damage decays by 6% per enemy hit, down to 10%. ~1300 speed, no projectile (anchored on Honoka). QQ: Demonic Point: Honoka calls her grand-uncle Nalwei's sword, Dark, granting her 40/70/100/130/160/190 (+100% AP) (+100% Bonus AD) shields EXCLUSIVELY against Monster and Champion Ability damage for 3 seconds, dealing 55/90/125/160/195/230 (+55% AP) (+50% Bonus AD) Magic Damage in a 600-unit long, ~80 unit thick, line. ~1800 projectile speed-- the projectile approaches Honoka. WQ: Energy Surge: Honoka summons Zaichenrel's sword, Haymaker, to launch a large energy wave, dealing 60/100/140/180/220/260 (+60% AP) (+80% Bonus AD) Physical Damage in a ~115 unit thick, 575 unit long line, slowing enemies hit by 12/16/21/27/34/42% for 2 seconds. Damage decays by 8% per enemy hit, down to 60%. ~900 projectile speed. EQ: Burn: Honoka uses Elphrihaim's spirit to unleash a blaze, dealing 60/100/145/195/250/310 (+60% AP) (+40% Bonus AD) Magic Damage to all enemies in a ~50 unit wide, ~750 unit long line. The damage decays by 6% per enemy hit, down to 70%. 7 second cooldown, costs 35 Mana
#Ability Two
_W: Bretheren's Wings: Honoka calls upon her ancestor Ekerl to shield her by 40/70/100/130/160/190 (+70% AP) for 4 seconds, during which this ability may be reactivated for a ~325 range 'glide' that can go over terrain. Any enemies hit by this are slowed for 1 second, by 25/30/35/40/45/50%. QW: Veilshatter: Honoka calls her grandfather Eliwan's sword, Light, dealing 40/75/110/145/180/215 (+55% AP) (+60% Total AD) Magic Damage to and revealing enemies in a ~32.5 degree, ~550 unit long, cone for 2 seconds, the cone remaining lit for 3 seconds (neither grant True Sight). WW: Desert Blade: Honoka calls her lost-relative Lydiiav's sword, the Han Shin Ryo, and unleashes a tornado around herself, dealing 50/80/110/140/170/200 (+100% Total AD) (+50% AP) Magic Damage to and knocking up enemies within ~300 range of her for just under 1 second. EW: Entropy: Honoka charges herself with Urbiel's mastery over temperature, igniting the target area within ~600 range for 1.5 seconds, dealing damage over time. This can be reactivated within 4 seconds to freeze enemies in an equally-sized area. Both slow enemies by 10/14/18/22/26/30% for 2.5 seconds-- the slows stack and refresh the other if already applied. Both deal 30/50/70/90/110/130 (+55% AP) (+35% Bonus AD) Magic Damage in a ~225 unit-diameter circle. 7 second cooldown, costs 45 Mana
#Ability Three
_E: Soloist Pierce: Honoka fires spears of red energy from her ancestor Enobu's spirit, dealing 30/50/75/105/140/180 (+50% Bonus AD) (+40% AP) Magic damage in a teardrop-like shape extending out ~600 units. Directly in front of her is spared, and enemies closer to the tip take up to 50% additional damage. ~1800 projectile speed. QE: Rising Slash: Honoka summons her aunt Elikia's lightning soul and leaps to target area, dealing 20/40/60/80/100/120 (+100% Total AD) (+35% AP) Physical damage to and stunning all enemies in ~150 range for 0.5 seconds. ~450 range. WE: Split Bluster: Honoka calls Enaeva's power over nature to unleash two wind gusts that converge on the target point within 550 range, creating a stationary ~200-unit-diameter 'tornado' that slows enemies inside it by 20/25/30/35/40/45%, for 3 seconds. Anything hit (including the pair of gusts even upon entering the tornado after it is made) takes 25/50/75/100/125/150 (+80% Total AD) (+30% AP) Physical Damage. EE: Sorrow Shot: Honoka calls Nahel's blade, the Rageil, to consume her emotions, unleashing four rays in a spread away from the target point that deal 50/80/110/140/170/200 (+50% Total AD) (+35% AP) Magic Damage to and Slow enemies they encounter by 15/20/25/30/35/40% for 1.5 seconds. Upon hitting an enemy, the side rays will turn so that they head towards the target point. This turn happens regardless of what enemy gets hit. The rays have a fixed maximum travel distance of 800 units, and travel at ~1000 units each second. 7 second cooldown, costs 55 mana
#Ultimate Ability
Honoka summons her great-grandfather Enior's illusion blade, Ellus, to create an image of herself at the target location for 15 seconds. The Image dies upon reaching 50% of the health that it had when it spawned (but takes the same amount of damage as Honoka), and mimics her spellcasts. While the image is out, Honoka may cast her abilities such that their target points are within either Honoka or the Image's area. 60 second cooldown, costs 75 Mana *This ability can be ranked one time, and cannot be ranked unless Honoka is level 8 or higher.
Oh boy. Honoka's GAMEPLAY.
Honoka has a ton of tools at her disposal, but you may notice something. They all say "do damage", and basically nothing else. She has some brief hard CC available to her, but it is all sealed behind an opening gate. This means that enemies can possibly predict what's coming out.
But I guess that Honoka has one critical, huge issue with being countered. It's that her abilities aren't clearly called out, at least with regards to which ones she can use at an instant. The enemy has to know, in advance, which ones she has available.
Visually, the abilities she has available to her should hover behind her-- the forms of the weapon that each ancestor used. For the ancestors that aren't described with a particular weapon, a representation of their elemental prowess (a ball of lightning for Elikia, a flame for Elphrihaim, ice in the shape of a fire for Urbiel, for example).
This may be visually confusing, but it's better than having NO warning.
Um, I'm actually not sure how to explain how I think Honoka's kit works. She can only use 4 spells before she's forced back to her defaults (_Q -> QE -> EW -> WQ -> _E etc), which gives her the ability to sit on her powers for a while OR to throw out her skills. She relies on getting in melee, but has some difficulty doing so. Her spells give her a decent amount of range, though she's only capable of pushing out damage for the most part.
#Lore 2! Some extra background on Honoka.
Honoka walked into the hall. Though not actually intending to do much that day, she needed an answer to a question she long since held.
Who were 'they' that that soldier had been writing about?
She believed, for a moment, that her grandfather would know. She decided, though, to not ask him. Instead, why not ask the even-older being, the one that had been around for hundreds of years?
"Wirym, are you here?" quickly became the phrase that I uttered the most... because Wirym had no home. She always wandered around, never staying in one place. She had said her reason for that was to not let people die so easily.
Eventually I found her. In my bed. Taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon. In retrospect, I should have just waited for her.
"Wirym," I poked her. "Who are 'they'? I keep seeing reference to a group, heralded for their immense strength-- I keep being on the cusp of remembering something. Robed, indistinct, completely covered... Who are they?"
"Um, I don't... know what you're talking about," Wirym said-- she looked around a lot while answering.
"Do you really not? I was expecting the very old and wizened Wirym to know."
"I don't," Wirym paused. She then added-- "I know of little for my age, actually."
"Would you listen?" Wirym looked at me and nodded. "I think... these people, who controlled the world, really did exist. I think that they were able to do so by pulling people into their arena between fractions of a second, and in that time fought a glorious battle before being returned, free of wounds, to what they were doing. I think that they decided to leave because they did not feel like meddling with them, the champions of each area in terms of prowess, nor the lives that they lead. I'm sure that fighting a battle would make them forget what they were doing... Perhaps I would forget who I am if I lost this pendant for too long, too."
"I'm doubtful of such a thing. Why wouldn't these callers, if they're that strong, meddle? Messing with other people is very fun."
"You would know. I would think that it'd be more fun to see how strong one is by themselves..."
"I think that they're too strong for that. If they are capable of having a full-fledged battle in a 'fraction of a second', surely their strengths are so great they would accidentally destroy the world when just attacking one another. That's why they fight through a proxy, somebody that is not as strong as they are-- so they can reduce if not remove all collateral damage..." She broke down in tears at that point. "I miss him. I'm sorry, Honoka, I can't really... I'm still not strong enough. I can't live unless I'm alone, I am far too scared of accidentally allowing somebody to die. It would be not right to just let somebody fall, not without at least making sure they are bad people."
I left, apologizing. I had not expected her to connect between this and her own life... Though I guess living as long as she has, she must know that such people don't exist. After all, she's been around long enough; she likely knows that the people who claimed they exist were lying the whole time, but didn't say anything because she felt it would let people be hurt.
... I guess I have to hope they exist, while knowing that they don't. I would love to test myself somehow, somewhere I can be exerting myself without actually having to worry about the land about me. I'm afraid... Very afraid of what may happen if I do not reign in all these powers I've been given.
Thank you for reading this. If you did not actually read the whole thing, please read it before you comment. Or else I won't respond to you.
