[Story] Conversation of Immortals
Aurelion Sol opened his eyes.
Someone was approaching.
He had not had visitors in years now.
He raised his head and smelled the air.
What?
This was no ordinary visit.
His eyes narrowed.
“Look, little lamb. There he is” growled Wolf as he emerged from the rock.
Lamb followed him with an indifferent walk, as if she had been expecting it to be so.
The spirit turned its head to look at Aurelion Sol.
“The mighty dragon of the cosmos, chained to a rock like an ordinary mortal”
Aurelion Sol grinned at the sight of Kindred.
“Are you here to take me” he said with a laugh.
“You know I cannot do that” said Lamb. “Although, I must say, you have gotten weak. Centuries ago, the Star Forger would have never let himself be chained like this. Power has blinded your judgement”
Aurelion Sol looked away.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
“You know why…” said Lamb tilting its head.
“Yes, yes, you know why we are here” interrupted Wolf twisting with excitement in the air. “Change is upon us. The Aspects are descending from the mountain.”
“You mean that child?” laughed the dragon. “Please, she is no warrior. Her coming is no more than a foul joke from that pitiful excuse for an Aspect.”
“Do not underestimate its power” said Lamb with a dangerous voice. “The Aspect of Twilight is a force to be reckoned with: if it decided to come down where the mortals live, chances are more of them will follow.”
“That is hardly a threat” responded Aurelion Sol.
“You have felt it: your shackles have become weak” pointed out Lamb. “The magic that once had the power to hold you hostage is fading, the day in which you will free yourself has been set and approaches fast.”
“The world changes, Kindred” sighted Aurelion Sol. “Me finally escaping this damned prison has nothing to do with the Aspects coming down the mountain.”
Wolf looked nervous.
“I can feel it too, dear Wolf” calmly said Lamb. “I must leave you now, Star Forger. The song of a mortal life coming to an end draws me to another land. But heed my words: you may choose to ignore the upcoming danger, but you cannot ignore it, for it has been felt in the most remotes corners of this world. From the Shadow Isles, to Shurima, to Icathia and Ionia. When the time comes, you will have to pick a side: to either write history, or become part of it.”
And as quick as Kindred had come, it left.
Aurelion Sol looked at where the spirit for a few seconds.
Then, the dragon rested its head onto the floor, thinking.
