Logan would have otherwise cruised through a mundane life, had he not been recruited by his friends to join them in a hexball tournament. A sports game developed by hextech scientists and engineers in Piltover, player teams are pitted against each other in an indoor combat arena, in which attacks phase through players safely, as they try to score the hexball into the opponent’s net. Logan found his fun supporting his teammates by shifting across hallways, and pulling his teammates towards him and away from harm. Getting his hexball carrier to the net unscathed and amplifying his teammates’ attacks made him the most vital member of his team. Although they lost the tournament, he won the MVP award for the first Minor League Hexball season in Piltover.

Background
Logan only started playing hexball because his friends wanted him to. Without hexball, Logan would have just finished school, went to college, and started working. But now that he's found something he enjoys, he doesn't want to abandon this new career avenue.
He lives with his family in a cliffside suburban neighborhood in Piltover, overlooking the downtown area from a distance. Logan's parents chose to live there because it was quiet, compared to downtown, which was busy even in the dead of night. He had just graduated high school shortly after the end of the hexball tournament. The first Minor League season was just an exhibition of the sport. Logan plans on keeping up his game for the next season, which would have teams refining their tactics as the game grows.
Hexball
Hexball is a new sports game developed by hextech scientists and engineers from Piltover (I would say the Yordle Academy of Science & Progress, but I hear it's not currently canon). It is played on a grid-like field, likely indoors, with two nets in open spaces, and center field being in an open space, as well.
The grid creates walls and platforms, creating passages for players, similar to the jungle in Summoner's Rift. The grid changes formation each quarter of the game, taking 4 formations throughout the match. This area is called the City, or the Maze. You must go through the maze in order to get to a net or center.
There are two objectives on each side of the enemy's maze. Both do the same thing: deal enough damage to it and a ball of your team's color appears in center field. Once the hexball appears, a teammate can absorb its energy, then being highlighted on the minimap and in the enemy's vision. The carrier can discharge the energy back into his/her hand, able to throw it in a net or to pass to another player. This is so players can make attacks while being a carrier. Getting your team's hexball into the enemy's net scores a goal! However, the ball disappears after 5 minutes, and the original objective must be completed again for the hexball to reappear in center field.
Each team is divided into 15 players. Generally, 5 players stick around the middle, ready to snatch the ball when it appears. Another party of 5 hang around in the enemy's maze, completing the objective, or ready to protect the carrier when he/she arrives with the hexball. The other 5 players defend the objective and net in their own maze. If each team completes both of their objectives, a hexball appears for each team.
Other smaller objectives can be completed in center field or in the mazes, such as holo-monsters, or getting player kills. Doing these raises your team's limit gauge. When the limit gauge is filled, it can be used by the team to gain a buff for the entire team.
Players are equipped with visor goggles, which provides them with an interface of a minimap, limit gauge for each team, and other statistics, similar to Summoner's Rift. You have vision of enemies on the map if a player's visor sees them. Players can use any hexball-approved weapons, such as melee weapons (think Ekko), bows, guns, and even shields. Projectiles and weapons phase through all players, rendering them harmless. Logan uses a pair of Hextech Pulsar gloves, which are gloves lightweight enough to look like normal gloves, but still look like hextech. He uses magic to propel blasts, and energize his teammates to make their attacks more potent.
Players have a certain amount of hit points, depending on their weight. Logan weighs 130 lbs, giving him 130 hit points. Since he's lightweight, he's installed a shifting node into his gloves for extra mobility.
Ability nodes use up energy, which must be recharged before using abilities again. Of course, there are no actual cooldowns in-universe, but there is an energy usage to hexball abilities.
When a player reaches 0 hit points, they are transported to a base behind their team's net. After a timer, they can rejoin the game. If the carrier reaches 0 hit points, the ball remains in their location until it is picked up or disappears.
Whichever team scores the most points by game's end, wins!
And that's how hexball works! Let the game's begin!
Appearance
Logan is a 17 year old human male, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Around town, he'd wear a modest Piltover outfit: a slightly steampunk version of modern clothes. However, he is pictured in his overview as wearing his hexball team hoodie and visor goggles, which would be his standard skin.
Here is a Pinterest of the photos/art which inspired Logan's appearance. The one with the blue hat could be inspiration for a snow day skin? The two people who inspired his final portrait was a combination of Paul Zimmer's head (Youtuber) and Callan McAuliffe's jacket (actor). I found that Frankensteining pictures into something else was a cheap way to make Logan's appearance, since I'm not a talented artist.
Logan's magic particles should be based on Kog'maw and Annie's hextech skins. I put together a simple animation of how Logan fires his Q here. It should give you the idea that a disc launches the projectile at a high speed, and that a strip of magic hovers around his wrist, similar to Taliyah's rocks around hers. Sorry, I didn't animate any gloves, though. But, Logan wears the gloves for sport, and he prefers the nimbleness and flexibility of a normal glove, as opposed to armored gauntlets (Vi/Ezreal). There should be that blue-ish hextech liquid light part in his palm.
Imagined Skins:
- Safe Lane Logan: A goalie helmet, and padded leather with pillows strapped to his chest and back. A flavorful joke skin that complements his kit.
Existing Skin Roster Possibilities:
- Academy Logan: A bowtie and glasses. Yellow color, compared to the other four?
- Arclight Logan: Sleek white/gold outfit, glowing eyes, abilities all same color scheme. Everyone likes the arclight skins.
- Snow Day Logan: He would look like a high schooler in winter.
- Spellthief Logan: A hood and a wand.
Design Notes
Hello, my name is Keith. I've loved playing Ezreal since I started playing League way back when, but I also main the Support role. I designed Logan to fill a few things, mainly to bring the pokey-skill shot playstyle of Ezreal to the support role. Logan is a champion concept I've always wanted to play. Here are a list of details that I tried to accomplish with Logan:
- To make a rework of Ezreal's kit into a mage/support.
- To make a champion that doesn't follow a hero/villain character arc. League of Legends is filled with heroes, villains, edgelords and kooks. I like that Riot is revamping the lore in 2018, bringing more engaging stories to the table. However, I wanted to make a champion whose story challenges established rosters of champions who fit the above mentioned archetypes. Logan's parents aren't dead, they are very much alive, and Logan still lives with his family. His origin story doesn't have him embarking on a journey, or recovering from some tragic or apocalyptic event. He doesn't even win the tournament he joins. He succeeds in being the best he could be, becoming a champion in his own right.
- As I developed Logan, I learned that his kit seems great for Bronze and casual players. He's a point-and-shoot champion with a low difficulty (unless you consider expert flashing combos with his E). I wanted Logan to represent the drop-in support player, whose friends invited to play with them.
Playstyle: Logan's kit offers safe lane gameplay, allowing for players to Q skill shots from behind minions. Positioning is not a huge priority, since he can shoot through enemy minions (unless he has a Lich's Bane). Logan's kit includes two Q attack charges, a W buff, and an E blink. His ult is a global Ezreal-style projectile, which deals less damage but roots champions. In terms of subclasses, Logan could fit the artillery, burst, or enchanter subclasses. He is great for pushing turrets with an ally, and taking allies out of losing fights or incoming ganks. I hope he turns out to seem like a fun champ!
He is very squishy, though. He's among the worst in both maximum health and armor. His health regen at level 1 is also only 5.2, which is the 8th lowest. His maximum health is the 6th lowest at level 1, and 8th lowest at level 18. While his armor is fine at level 1, he has the 5th lowest at 18.
A Neat Consequence of Logan's Design?
02/28/2018. Recently, I've been thinking about what Logan brings to the table as a support in 2018. I noticed that his appearance, character, lore and kit could all contribute to a socially rewarded feeling of sportsmanship between teammates, similar to Braum's ability to light up the room.
Reading his name, "Logan," sounds like a person who comes from a familiar world. Then you read "the Most Vigilant Player," which tips off the reader about Logan being the MVP of something. Then looking at his appearance, you see a teenage male, looking like he has an LCS skin.
Then you get to the lore. His story is not about winning, it's him being awarded for being a good support. When you get into his kit, it may do just that. There could be games in which the adc might not have survived, had Logan not pulled them out of combat. Or they might not have gotten the kill if Logan hadn't added to their damage. Objective control with dragon and turrets also becomes easier when Logan joins to provide dps.
Logan's kit and lore, from the short cc window on his W, to powering up his adc's attacks, to tactics with his E, Logan is all about cooperation with your teammates, and can be incredibly rewarding when you successfully pull off a play together, or make an escape. Logan is a character who is proud to be a support, and I hope that it translates the same to gameplay. I believe that Riot can improve the support role in a way which advertises the player enjoying the role of support. I feel that a champion like Logan is a perfect solution in making the support role attractive, without having to change how the game works.
I might just be rambling here, but I do believe that there is something about Logan's design that could provide some insight into attracting more support players.
03/09/2018. Logan now counters Blitzcrank's pull in the best way, thanks to his E. If there's any champion concept which can help Blitzcrank's permaban problem, it's Logan.

Abilities
##Passive: Clouting Endurance
Whenever Logan hits an enemy champion with an attack or ability, he gains a stack of Clouting Endurance. The fourth stack expends all stacks, recovering 4% of missing health and mana for himself and a nearby allied champion (within 750 range, prioritizes lowest health ally).
######Note: summoner spells do not grant any stacks.
######Note: stacks are lost only upon death.
######Note: Ctrl + Click on the passive icon would indicate to the team of how many stacks Logan currently has.
##Q: Hex Bolt
Logan fires a pulse of energy in a line, dealing magic damage to enemy champions and large monsters it hits, applying on-hit effects. This ability has two charges.
Note: the AP bonus to the damage scales with Braking Blitz, Nashor's Tooth and Lich's Bane. By itself, Hex Bolt is just a skill shot poke.
Note: example animation here. The animation speed is not to scale, but the farthest dummy was hit by Ezreal's Mystic Shot, making it the reach for Logan's Hex Bolt. Hex Bolt should have the same hit box as Ezreal's Essence Flux.
Ability Type: Projectile AoE Magic Damage: 52 / 79 / 106 / 133 / 160 (+ 20% AP) Mana Cost: 34 / 36 / 38 / 40 / 42 Charges: 2 Cooldown per Charge: 6 / 5.75 / 5.5 / 5.25 / 5 seconds Projectile Range: 1150 units Projectile Speed: 2000 units
##W: Braking Blitz
Logan empowers himself and a target ally for 3.4 - 5 seconds, granting bonus attack speed, and basic attacks deal bonus magic damage on hit for the duration. Also, Logan's Hex Bolt roots enemy champions hit for the first time and damages minions it passes through at 75% damage for the duration.
######Note: Hex Bolt applies the root only once per enemy champion hit until the next time you cast Braking Blitz. For example, you can cast Hex Bolt at Jinx and Udyr, hitting Jinx on the first time, rooting her, and missing Udyr. On your second Q, you could hit both of them, but Udyr is rooted and Jinx is not. This is to prevent the root from proccing off of every Q that Logan throws out, due to its low cooldown, allowing for up to 3 Qs during Braking Blitz's 5 second window if Logan has 45% cooldown reduction.
######Note: the cooldown applies after the duration.
Ability Type: Single Target Buff Duration: 3.4 / 3.8 / 4.2 / 4.6 / 5 seconds Bonus Attack Speed: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% Bonus Magic Damage: 13 / 16 / 19 / 22 / 25 (+5% of your AP) Root Duration: 0.8 seconds Mana Cost: 78 / 81 / 84 / 87 / 90 Cooldown: 15.5 / 13.75 / 12 / 10.25 / 8.5 seconds Target Range: 450 units
##E: Ferry Shift
Note: as of this version, the CCOS judges might have already finished scoring Logan. Just so readers know which version of Ferry Shift was used before this tweak, you can read this version, which also includes two old tips for that version of Ferry Shift. The new Ferry Shift was updated to be more reliable to use.
Logan instantly pulls the target ally to his location. Within 1.5 seconds, he can activate this ability again, blinking to a target location. Blinking drops a portal at both of his blink locations for 5 seconds, allowing for one ally to reach one by right-clicking on it within the area.
Note: here is a visual of the portals and their sizes. The smaller circle indicates the clickable area an ally can target the portal, and like Thresh's lantern, also indicates the time remaining before the portals disappear. The larger outline indicates the area an ally must reach or be within in order to dash to a portal. The second portal's outer area merges with the first portal's area. The second portal is indicated by a circular AoE indicator, as shown here. The indicator doesn't move beyond 475 units if the mouse does. It's meant to show where the portal will land, because most AoE abilities would have the champion move to a spot where the circle can be placed, which is not what Logan's Ferry Shift does.
Note: the cooldown applies after the flash or 1.5 second window.
Note: Logan can blink without having to pull an ally. Blinking will put the ability on cooldown immediately.
Note: the portal is considered terrain while active, slightly displacing enemies standing in the area (is not considered a crowd control effect) but not interrupting channels.
Note: a portal can be targeted by Jax's Leap Strike and Katarina's Shunpo (I think?).
Note: allies can enter a portal through walls if the radius allows it.
Note: being pulled or going through a portal transports the ally at the same speed as Thresh's lantern. The ally can be targeted and take damage during the pull. The pull cannot be interrupted once started, even by Logan's own death, except by the ally's own death. Pulling targeted allies interrupts any crowd control effects affecting the ally, but they can still affect the ally after the pull, duration permitting. If any crowd control effects are applied to the ally during the pull, they will affect the ally after the pull, duration permitting.
Note: an ally being transported to a portal lands at the center of the portal's location in the direction the champion is facing upon dashing.
Note: Logan cannot target or enter any of his portals.
Note: targeted allies being carried over retain their attack commands and direction even after the pull. However, their movement command is cancelled once pulled. It is the ally's responsibility to retreat or move in their own direction once pulled. Targeted allies cannot activate abilities during the pull, but any effects on the ally, such as Braking Blitz's buff, remain, duration permitting.
Note: right-clicking on a portal counts as a movement command. Any crowd control effects which prevent a champion from moving also prevents that champion from entering a portal.
Note: any movement or basic attack commands made during the pull continues after the pull.
Note: targeting/hovering the mouse over a portal creates a directional line between the champion and the portal, to indicate the direction they will be pulled.
Note: the portals disappear in the enemy's fog of war on a per portal basis. If one portal disappears, the other and its radius remain.
Note: if the other side is in the enemy's fog of war, the enemies can still see the ally being pulled in the direction.
Note: the targeted ally will dash to Logan's current location (not to his location when the pull began).
Note: if Logan pulls an ally, the mana cost applies upon targeting the ally, not when he flashes. The flash is free unless there is no pull.
Note: Logan's flash component of Ferry Shift has a 0.25 second casting time, and cannot be interrupted by anything other than Logan's own death. He will still suffer any crowd control effects, duration permitting, after it ends.
Ability Type: Single Target Blink Mana Cost: 90 Cooldown: 19 / 17.5 / 16 / 14.5 / 13 seconds Target Range: 475 units Blink Range: 475 units
##R: Mercury Lance
After gathering energy for 1 second, Logan fires a Mercury Lance Minimap energy projectile in the target direction, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through, rooting champions for 1 - 1.2 seconds. The total damage deals 15% less damage to each unit it passes through, to a minimum of 40% damage.
Note: Mercury Lance is imagined to be either charging an attack with two hands, or prepared like a javelin. Like Hex Bolt, a bigger disc appears to launch the lance projectile, like a cannon or ballista.
Note: Mercury Lance's cast time cannot be interrupted by anything other than Logan's own death. He will still suffer any crowd control effects, duration permitting, after it ends.
Note: if Logan is displaced mid-cast the projectile will still fire from his original position at the time of casting.
Note: Mercury Lance's projectile grants sight in a small radius around its current location.
Ability Type: Projectile AoE Magic Damage: 250 / 350 / 450 (+ 45% AP) Root Duration: 1 / 1.1 / 1.2 seconds Damage Reduction: 15% per enemy hit Mana Cost: 100 Cooldown: 120 seconds Projectile Range: Global Projectile Speed: 2000 units

Tips and Tricks
- Hex Bolt goes through minions, allowing you to take a shot at enemies behind their minions. Try firing from behind your own minions, as well, since this provides you additional security against enemy skill shots.
- Braking Blitz helps to push on a turret, especially with an ADC.
- Ferry Shift doesn't always have to be used to escape fights. Coordinate with a teammate if there is an opportunity for a gank.
- You can use Ferry Shift to save your teammate in the jungle by pulling them over a wall.
- Mercury Lance can be used to provide some crowd control in another lane, if your aim is accurate.
- The root duration on your Braking Blitz might not be long enough for your ADC to react in time for a hit, however it can be enough time to unload a second Hex Bolt. Try a combo with Mercury Lance for some extra rooting, or coordinate with your teammate when you're ready to root with Braking Blitz.
- When farming minion kills, Braking Blitz is your best method of lane clear without having to waste your ult. In the early game, the ability's hefty cooldown might have you debating whether to use it on the enemy laner or on the minions. In this case, use your Braking Blitz + Hex Bolt combo to eliminate the minions you want to kill, but aim at an angle which is directed at the enemy laner. If you hit the enemy champion, then you have an opportunity for another hit or two. Alternatively, you can use your Braking Blitz to farm minion kills, while overtime poking the enemy laner long enough to reduce their health low enough for a final burst. Once the opportunity presents itself, now you can use your Braking Blitz on the enemy laner, if you have enough mana by then, and going for the kill.
Playing Against Logan
- Go in for the kill if Logan uses his Ferry Shift to engage into a battle. He most likely won't have an escape.
- When Logan pulls an ally to him, there is a 1.5 second window for him to blink away. If you can prevent him from activating his Ferry Shift the second time within that time, him and his ally are stuck. If you do not have the means or reaction time, you would still have up to 1.5 seconds to predict the blink.
- Entering one of Logan's portals counts as a movement command. Any kind of crowd control which prevents a champion from moving also prevents that champion from entering a portal.
- Keep in mind that a champion being pulled to Logan can be targeted and damaged during the pull, so if you can get a shot along the pull's path, you might hit them. Basic attacks can still work if the champion remains within your range long enough to execute the attack.
- In most games, Logan would inevitably build a Nashor's Tooth or a Lich's Bane. If you're feeling competent, try to punish him in the early game before he snowballs his abilities.
- Logan can poke frequently. Sometimes he might conserve his mana for a burst kill. If your health reaches 30% or lower, be ready for any bursts, likely to be initiated by him casting Braking Blitz or Mercury Lance.
- Once Braking Blitz has been wasted, Logan's power becomes reduced. Due to Hex Bolt's low cooldown, this is your chance to deal your damage if you haven't already, otherwise he could start poking you with what remaining health you have.
- If Logan casts Braking Blitz on a marksman, that champion may be a greater threat than Logan.
- Logan is a ranged champion. If you can close the gap, his ability to blast you with skill shots could become difficult for him.
- Most builds would have Logan building very little armor, if any at all. If you are playing a champion that deals attack damage, you could take him out with greater ease than mages.
- If you are trying to outpoke Logan, keep in mind that his attack range is slightly better than most ranged champions. If you use your basic attack on him, he would most likely hit you back. Likewise, he may try to take advantage of this attack range and try to auto attack you. When he does this, he is leaving himself vulnerable.
- Logan does not fare well against diving fighters and assassins, but may pose a threat to tanks with heavy dps in the late game.

- Braking Blitz's bonus magic damage has been changed from 12 / 14 / 16 / 18 / 20 (+20% AP) to 13 / 16 / 19 / 22 / 25 (+ 5% AP).
- Braking Blitz's cooldown has been reduced by 1 second at all ranks.
- Braking Blitz's mana cost has been reduced from 82/84/86/88/90 to 78/81/84/87/90.
- Added a Playing Against Logan section.
- Added "Cool." to the possible lines section. :)
- The visual overview can now be seen inside the thread for people looking for first impressions.
02/26/2018. Part 2.
- Braking Blitz's duration has been reduced from 5/5.5/6/6.5/7 seconds to 3.4/3.8/4.2/4.6/5 seconds. 7 seconds was starting to seem like too much, and the 5 seconds at level 1 was also much. The cooldown has been changed from 14/13/12/11/10 seconds to 16.5/14.75/13/11.25/9.5 seconds. Its base damage was also reduced from 14/18/22/26/30 (+20% AP) to 12/14/16/18/20 (+20% AP).

- Logan's health regen received a minor buff from 5-15.2 to 5.2-15.4. His passive now also procs at four stacks, instead of the fifth.
- Logan got a full facelift! New visuals and new ability names! His overview now pictures a Logan with his hexball team hoodie. His imagined hexball skin was absorbed into his main skin, making him more recognizable as the Most Vigilant Player.
- Energizing Spell Force was renamed to Clouting Endurance. Endurance because recovering health and mana at a low rate overtime translates to the ability to perform athletic tasks over a longer period of time. Clout is for clout archery. Put it together and you have a long-shot recovery, exactly what happens with the ability. :)
- Blast Shot was renamed to Hex Bolt. Hex because of hextech, and Bolt because the hextech items have "bolt" in each of their unique active names.
- Flux Charge was renamed to Braking Blitz. Braking because of the root cc, and blitz because of football and blitzkrieg. Logan's W is all about stopping an enemy champion and shooting them with an intense burst of skill shots and attacks from your teammate.
- Logan's ability names should be much better in recognizing the function of the abilities in a unique way, while also having that sports theme. Anyone with the knowledge could instantly recognize the name's function. :)

- Patch 8.4 brought in changes to the AP item meta. Rather than get into unnecessary complications, I removed the Building Logan section from the document.
- Added a Match Ups section.
02/22/2018.
- Flux Charge's minion damage reduction has been raised from 50% to 75%, so Logan's lane clear can be worth the mana expenditure of W + at least one Q.

- Ferry Shift's had a slight mechanical change, which brought in some more technical notes. Simply flashing a champion over to you might be disorienting to the person being flashed over. So I changed it to be a pull, identical to Thresh's lantern. Also, while researching Thresh's mechanics on the wiki, I learned a few more things which should have been included in the technical notes, such as being able to be targeted by Katarina's Shunpo, or the fact that since this is targetable terrain, minions and champions walk around the spot the portal is sitting on, similar to the lantern.
- Ferry Shift now also has an updated visual which introduces a wider area for which the ally can be able to pass through the portal. I learned that Thresh's lantern can be used while within the wider circle, so I had to make sure that the portal was accessible in an area around it, rather than literally reaching it.

- I omitted the parts which mention Logan as not being one to expose himself to danger. Although it would have been a neat part of his personality, it's the hexball stuff that draws attention to his character.
- His title is The Most Vigilant Player, which still stands, because he is a support. His job is to pull his ADC out of danger when ganks are coming, both in-universe and in-game. Safe Lane Logan also stays, because I think it's awesome. It still has that meta-vibe. Maybe the skin could be what brings out anxiety in Logan, rather than the base character. There are a few skins which have quote lines attached to them.
