Idea for bringing back chat rooms (Improved)

  • Had given thought about having chat rooms for different levels as they can help each other out whereas if lvl 10s ask lvl 30s questions, they might not understand what they're talking about (Split Pushing, Trading etc.).

    • Lvl 1-10
    • Lvl 10-20
    • Lvl 20-30
  • Something else that I had given deep thought was for an advice chat room where those still trying to learn the concepts of playing LoL can ask and learn about things such as builds and various things. Therefore, I would also like something like an advice Chat Room where those under the lvl of 20 can ask lvl 30s questions

  • A function that might help Riot out when tracking down spamming bots could be a report function where players can simply report annoying botsBlitzcrank /highly toxicSinged players.

  • To reward those that are showing great generosity in sharing knowledge and goodwill, I also believe that there should be a honoring function for these certain players to be recognised. (Maybe after a certain number of honors, one can get rewards?) .

  • Ranked Chat Rooms:

    • In some cases, it's really hard to look through all the different people in a single chat room for someone in the same rank or with a similar skill level. Thus, I believe that ranked chat rooms would be a great idea ^
  • Bronze-Silver

  • Silver - Gold

  • Gold - Platinum

  • Platinum - Diamond

  • Diamond - Challenger? ( Not too sure about this one tbh)

If anyone has any changes, please do feel free to comment, ty for taking the time to read through all this!

The issue with creating chat rooms like that is the massive number of people who play LoL. Too many people in a chat room and it becomes hard to have a conversation.

I could open a huge can of worms on this, but I'll try to truncate my thoughts.

As a general rule, I feel that chat rooms are criminally under-utilized. There are so many things that they can be used for:

  • Boards discussion
  • New player discussion
  • Ranked LFT (looking for team) or LFDP (looking for duo partner)
  • Clans/Guilds
  • Community-building
  • AMAs

etc. In my personal opinion, chat rooms could potentially be one of the most significant community-improving things that Riot could possibly do, but they have never been supported at all since the release of the game.

Anyway, off my soapbox and onto your thread ideas!

I like this. It might make more sense to organize the chat rooms by perceived knowledge level (there is a question asked when starting League of Legends asking for your experience with MOBAs and League) rather than level, however.

an advice chat room where those still trying to learn the concepts of playing LoL can ask and learn about things such as builds and various things.

This would be great as well. I still don't think it should be limited by summoner level, but rather by level of knowledge.

a report function

Yes. I have no idea why there is no regulation whatsoever in chat rooms. Currently, you can break the Code constantly in chat rooms and it does absolutely nothing unless a Rioter happens to consider it so severe they escalate it.

To reward those that are showing great generosity in sharing knowledge and goodwill, I also believe that there should be a honoring function for these certain players to be recognised.

This comes down to Riot's perspective on the community, I think. If the mentality from the Boards (content > creator) also extends into the client, this sort of system might be against those values. I won't get into my personal opinions here (I agree with you but shh don't tell), but that's definitely something to consider.

Ranked Chat Rooms

Yep. A way this could be done would be to put everyone in a given League (e.g. Karma's Eyegougers) and Tier (e.g. Gold) in a chat room together. As far as I'm aware, that would result in roughly 500 or so players (100 for each of the 5 Divisions), and assuming normal distribution and not everyone being on at the same time it would be manageable discussion.

If it's not obvious I have put a lot of thought into chat rooms. I feel like they have the potential to be one of the strongest tools available to the community, and it frustrates me that they are essentially ignored.

Yeah, I agree but I believe that something like a recreational/just for fun kind of chat may also seem nice. Not too sure though :/
