Chronological View Needs More Context
I think chronological view is really important for these boards to be useful. Over on Reddit, topics have a short shelf life, but here I expect key threads (e.g. a champion rework discussion) to be around a while and have continuing discussion over time. It's handy to see what was recently added to a discussion, especially since the conventional view will bury new posts because they haven't had the time to get the upvotes to bubble.
Boards lend themselves to small comments rather than big posts with multiple quotes. As a result, you'll see a lot of posts that don't quote anything and just reply to a specific comment. This works great in Reddit-style view, as all of the comments in a thread of discussion are curated together. This is quite nice.
Following an big ongoing discussion with the current boards implementation is tricky though. You can use the conventional view, and now you're going to have to dig through all the subthreads to find the part you're interested in before you can see any changes. Alternatively, you can use the chronological view, and that's going to let you know what new comments are quickly. When you go over to chronological view, though, you lose the contextual information from the conventional view. You'll see a post like "I'll look into that thanks!" and have no idea what the poster is talking about.
We need a way to see at least what a new post was commenting on. More likely, we need a quick way to go see the post in its traditional context, so we can see any replies or peers to it that are recent.
