Why change from forums to boards?
What was the motivation behind this change of discussion format? I honestly liked the forums better and feel like this is nothing more than an attempt to imitate reddit's layout because of the large LoL subreddit.

I've been here a while, and I can assure you this isn't an attempt to imitate reddit. The reason they're making it in the first place is because the forums are outdated from a technology perspective. The team working here has been really open to feedback: between the Community Beta (which Boards is an update to) and Boards, basically all the changes were because of feedback that we gave.
With that in mind, what did you like better about the forums? The more people like you who point to specific things that you like better about one system or another, the more the Boards team can improve the platform!
To me this is a huge improvement over the forums. Being able to know when someone responds to me without directly going to each of the threads I have posted in and sifting through 50 pages of crap to find the one person who actually has decent feedback.
For my personal reasoning for liking these over the forums is largely 2 factors, emphasis of 1-on-1 conversations and the removal of bumping. I like talking with individuals rather than addressing the public and hoping a specific person sees it like vBulletin's format does. and I really did not appreciate the fact I could not control when my presence or activity in a thread gave visibility. I'm one of those people that talks down ragers and discusses unpopular opinions and as such I am a fan of when I choose to support a topic. vBulletin's format really denies the ability to speak out against an opinion, because the act of speaking out against it will give the OP much more visibility than your comment.
Well it let me back in, so it can't be all bad :P
I prefer the old forum style because I just don't like wading through nested comments. I tend to read everything, so the linear conversation style in the forums is easier to follow than getting through a long conversation only to find a second (or third or fourth) thread to the same OP.
