Blanket downvotes are not good for Boards

I would genuinely like to know how many people enjoy a comment or post, rather than how many people like the post, minus how many didn't.

Entire discussions on a particular board receive constant drops in vote count because of larger parts of the community who are simply disinterested. A lot of certain topics can receive blanket down votes, which we always see in the form of comments being censored. I don't like having to click on the "see more" button to view a reply just because a comment has received more down votes than it has upvotes. I don't see why we need to shut so many people out with this option. Only what interests the vast majority comes even close to boards home, which sounds like fucking politics to me.
