New Boards, New Thoughts

How do you feel about the new boards design both visually and functionally?

Here's a poll you can click and feel free to share your two cents!

I for one enjoy the switch to subtle less jarring colors and darker tones as far as the board looks; it feels much easier to look at and to find things. I feel there is a strong sense of contrast making it easier to navigate.

In terms of functionality I had some issues with the previous rendition of the reddit design to the pbe boards; I did not post on them but i read them often (or tried to). In either case I feel this has also been remedied! The option to view chronologically is very neat and comfortable for someone accustomed to a traditional board and the option to switch back and forth between this and the upvotes "reddit" view is convenient and the best of both worlds.

Honestly I find the most comfortable view the "reddit" style but set in the "most recent" option, as I still get to view upvotes and popularity, yet the posts are ordered in reverse chronological which makes the thread very easy to follow.

I do want to suggest possibly making the red tracker comment box on the left side follow you when you click the "view comment" link and it scrolls you down. A neat feature in itself, but if it followed you, one could easily preview the next or previous riot comment and choose to view that one as well without having to scroll up to do so.

P.S. I would also like to recommend increasing the Poll choice length ^^;

Thank you for those pieces of feedback. The team is always open to hearing new features, ideas, and suggestions.

Aesthetically and functionally, it's a HUGE step up from the old Community Beta. It also looks a lot better than the eye-piercing white of default GD.

As far as functionality compared to GD, though... There's still room for improvement.

Flat view should be the default option in my opinion. There's no need to try and emulate Reddit if you want to make a forum for discussion. Reddit is NOT a good platform for discussion; it's a good platform for hiveminding and skimming.

Also, having the control-keys for text formatting disabled here is painful. I keep trying to ctrl-I to make my text italic, for example, and then I need to go down and manually click the italic button... Tedious.

Gonna have to agree with Ginga on having post functions above the actual text box. It just feels wrong to have them below the text you're typing.

Avatars could be bigger, especially considering all the empty space you've intentionally left on each post box. I'd love for custom avatars a la FEK to be implemented here too, but I'm not stupid enough to believe it'll ever happen outside of a third-party mod like FEK. It's just too much work on Riot's end and we all know how quickly people would abuse it.

I also don't see the point of having a smaller box below the text box previewing everything I type as I type it. It just seems like a huge waste of space. I understand the need for previewing a post, but come on.

Hiding the upvote/downvote buttons for flat view is also a sore point, especially for posters who prefer it, and hopefully this will be fixed soon.

That's about all I've got for now.

Overall; huge improvement from the CB and GD, but still has a few of the CB's sore points that need to be adjusted before it's truly great.

I voted for I dislike it overall. The background is dark with darkish text, I don't like how it feels to have the navigation on the right side.

My suggestions are: Put the navigation back to the write side and make the text brighter. Also a few more suggestions: Make an option to pin certain comments to the top of the page. Like if you're the OP you should be able to do that. Also, instead of just scrolling down I think there should be a "Next comment button so you don't have to keep on scrolling down and down. Also on the Search you could add it to be a filter too so it looks for threads with X words on the front page or post by a certain person.

Dislike. I don't understand why a normal style forum layout is so hard to be implemented.

PLease make a way for the color scheme to change. I just got the worst headache reading a wall of text in someones post about Caitlyn and if the words where spaced a little bit more or it had a different color scheme I wouldn't be suffering now. Other than that it is fine. Time to take some advil.

I like how it looks and works and stuff, but now I have to remember the post I looked at last on the Red Tracker cause the link doesn't change color when you've clicked on it before anymore.

It looks nifty, but uh...I like the buttons and functions to be ABOVE what I'm posting rather than below. Also, why is there no neutral option?
