I understand your sentiment and while I agree with you to a point, I think you are forgetting that putting ideas out to the public is a 2 way street. From a practical standpoint I don't believe being needlessly harsh is productive but at the same time hearing unedited criticism can be the most honest and therefore the most useful. If an idea is perceived as stupid, regardless of if the idea is actually stupid, this is invaluable information for the creator.
Two examples come to mind to illustrate the important difference between needlessly insulting someone and giving them false feedback.
Needlessly insulting: "a 3 year old could have come up with that go kill yourself"
False feedback: "That is a really great idea! Don't worry if no one else thinks so because Im telling you thats great!"
You see one response may hurt feelings while the other may make you swell with pride but they are both detrimental because they are both dishonest.
To sum it up, what Im saying is that if someone responds to an idea with the criticism "that is a really bad idea," or even "that will never happen," its not necessarily a bad thing. If the person saying it really believes it then imo they have every right to say so and are being a "better" person by being honest than if they decided to lie to protect anothers' feelings.
