there are far too many memes & games posts on the front page for me, i would really like the ability to block boards from appearing on the front page

Team Recruitment would be the first one on my axe list, followed by Skins and Champion Concepts.
Until that happens, you do have a few options:
Going directly to the board you want to browse and see their hottest threads, instead of general.
Participate in Memes and Games.
Make a thread like this about "Nerf X!" threads that have terrible logic, selective information, and bias that are honestly more annoying than gif spam.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I wish we had this feature too, but that board is hardly the worst of the bunch.
