[The bump button] - V2

I've been on a couple of forums in my time, and the thing I miss the most about this one, is the bump button.

The bump button automatically "bumps" your thread back to the top of the first page, right under the sticky threads. This way it is easier to read it.

Won't everyone just bump their thread constantly and leave your thread far behind?

The bump button has a cooldown (just like abilities!), so you can only use it once per 10 or 30 minutes, depending on how busy that particular forum is. (Or just have a global cooldown on all the subforums). Those thread owners who cared most about their thread would then always have their thread in front.

Why implement a bump button in the first place? Won't good threads automatically get the attention it deserves?

The simple answer is no, but there are of course threads that can keep themselves on the front page for an extended amount of time due to the timing of the comments written on it. However, most threads quickly fall behind if not posted on for a day or two (depending on traffic), and this makes the bump button good for those who are interested in keeping their thread going.

The real frustration about a forum without a bump button is sometimes you create a really good discussion, you spend 1 maybe 2 hours writing the OP, and countless more discussing it. Then it just drops off the first page, and is lost in the eternal abyss of threads forever. And you can't revive it, because that counts as thread spam. Plus all the good discussion would be lost too.

And this benefits everyone, not just those who spend 24/7 on the forums taking care of their threads. Whenever you log on, go bump that thread you want to see discussed, and next time you come back someone might have responded to it.

This also avoids clogging up the forums with useless "bump" comments.
