Force downvoters to write why they downvote

I've recently written a thread about Ardent Censer, which got downvoted right away without explaination and it went totally unnoticed. Seeing that, I re-uploaded the thread a few hours later, hoping for a little more attention, but it got 2 downvotes in a single minute, not even enough to read the thread, and I still don't know if they are just trolling, if they disagree with my thread or if they don't like the title.

Force downvoters to explain their downvotes, to avoid impulsive and unexplained downvotes that buries a thread before it even has a chance to be seen.

Edit: I've just got a downvote, and I don't know what they don't like about it. Funny, isn't it?

I downvote Euros who post on the 'Murica board.

It's mainly because people were looking down on you for being unranked/Bronze, yet still proposing random buffs for items as if you're a Mr. know-it-all.

Downvoted, because you're trying to shame people that disagree with you.

My explanation: why? because I can! Katarina

That defeats the purpose of downvoting.

When somebody downvotes, presumably that's because they want the thread to move lower in the list. Right? It's connected to visibility, along with the number of comments. If they comment, then they are helping the thread gain visibility, which is the opposite of what they wanted.

When I downvote, I often comment and tell people why I think their idea isn't worth more discussion. I never downvote simply because I disagree with someone, though. That's not what the system is for.

What, and be stuck with fed trolls? Or would you prefer to have to read spam replies, just so someone could down vote?

No, your system is more flawed than the one you wish to fix.

We vote based on what we like, or what we don't like. We can choose to explain why we feel so, but we are not required to.

And I highly doubt it would have much positive impact. I could disagree with you. Then you would disagree with me. And it would go in circles and circles. Let the people vote, man.

And why no forcing upvoters to write why they upvote? Seems a little biased to me, are you just salty your thread got ignored?

There are some thread or comment so ignorant as not to deserve a reason why someone down-votes it. Say there is a thread that is purely nasty and mean in content, I see no reason why I would need to explain myself. Besides that some thread are pure bait and I won't give the person more fuel to keep it going.

BTW: I didn't vote on this one.

If people had to explain every downvote they just wouldn't bother. I'm aware you'd probably consider that to be a good thing, but when you are effectively silencing dissenting opinions it really doesn't help the platform grow.

Downvotes doesn't mean anything because well, it's not the first time someone comes in with an opinion that is showered by thumb downs. Then another guy comes in 2 days later holding the exact same statement but is graced with 100+ upvotes.

Take those with a grain of salt.

Not to mention, it's not like there aren't any forumers who down/upvotes according to political correctness instead of what they actually think.

Usually if I downvote someone, I'll leave a comment. Occasionally there is one of those posts where I feel the OP won't take constructive criticism/feedback/opposing opinions well, so to avoid an argument that would go nowhere, I won't leave a comment.
