[Idea] Mods explaining why they close threads

What if when a Moderator closes/moves a thread there's a little box he/she can write in that explains why he/she did it?

I mean these mods are like ghosts and they do some crazy stuff. It would help to know why.

Would this be a good idea? Tear me apart GD.. err I mean CD.

On a lot of forums, moderators just make a final post in the thread, saying that it's going to be closed with a short explanation of why. Not sure why they don't do something like that here.

Would definitely improve relations greatly. Riot forums have to be the ONLY forums that do not require moderators to explain themselves when a thread is closed or moved.

It gives players nothing to hold moderation to, and pretty much makes everyone either "Nothing goes" or "everything goes", because Moderators are being held to (as far as people can tell) opinionated closing.

While this is fine and dandy for the game, where most problems are opinionated....Forums are supposed to have somewhat of a laid out set of rules. And when people's threads get closed for seemingly no reason...it makes them just repeat the previous offense later anyway!

Not entirely sure if this is worded best, but the way moderators handle it currently just:

-Aggravates the playerbase

-Confuses them

-More than likely makes them repeat an offense later anyway.

It's also probably worth mentioning as well, that not explaining to people why they shouldn't have a thread, creates redundancy as people not only repeat the thread, but aggravated players break the rules by demanding a response to that closed thread.

Which makes sense, because half the time noone knows what they did!

I'd like to know why some threads are closed as well. Usually it's pretty obvious though. I haven't encountered many threads that were closed for questionable reasons.

This should be such a standard thing that this thread should be redundant.

In other words, this should already be the case on GD. GUESS why GD is a pit that you must claw out of (bumping) in order to see the light of day? Because moderators don't move/merge/delete threads like they should. I could rant about this, but I think everyone gets the point. Mods not only need to do their job, they have to VISIBLY do their job.

To Rioters: A short blurb about what closing the thread was necessary does three things:

  1. It tells everyone why it was closed.
  2. It allows people to learn from such threads, and how to avoid a thread being derailed, etc.
  3. This will (potentially) lessen the number of threads that actually require closing.

I think it would be an excellent general rule of thumb to follow when closing threads (of course there may be some exceptions).

Forum moderators are not employees of Riot Games. Furthermore, they act with anonymity -- which may very well be their most powerful tool. A lot of the closed threads on GD are closed by peers with their thumbs down.
