[Community Beta Feedback] A fair compromise between "Flat" and "Reddit"?

The main complaint about "Reddit" style forums is that the upvoted comments are the only ones that get viewed, as opposed to traditional forums. I have to agree with this complaint. The part that worries me (and why I ended up leaving reddit) was that the stuff posted was not what I wanted to see, but rather what the general everyone did. It seemed to become a fierce competition to be the most clever, as otherwise your comment or post would never get read by anyone. Also, a small portion of the community (aka the knights of /new) gets to dictate what the rest of the community sees, which discourages active discussion.

However, I will admit that the traditional forum style (chronological order reset by "bumping") could be improved. It was awful hard to follow conversations in large threads, and annoying to make a post that got plenty of views but dropped off the first page into oblivion.

So I propose a compromise: Posts should still start at the front of the first page, similar to standard forum structure. But rather than having bumping, votes should be what determines what stays on the front page. Basically, you vote up to bump, rather than typing "bump".

This solves several issues. This allows all new posts to have a chance to be seen and heard, without relying on the knights of new to let them pass. It keeps one member from infinitely keeping a thread bumped, since you can only upvote once. And it still allows the "better" posts to stay near the top while the "nerf vayne11!!!" posts fall to the bottom.

I believe this approach would create the type of community I'd like to read, and I'm sure many would agree with me. You have the chance to create a new type of community, where both new posts and old favorites ahve a chance to shine. By mixing the best parts of both solutions, Riot's already awesome community can make the jump into the [internet] future!

Type "?show=flat" into the end of the webpage. It puts the reddit style nested discussion into chronological order with each comment attached to a quote of its parent.
